Got a feeling we may reach the Dark Continent before we reach Miklagaard.
Vinland Saga
-
-
Garm is the best thing that happened in this arc.
-
This has been so painfully slow. I forgot how hard it is to read a monthly manga for a while. Then I got into Vinland Saga. Ughhh. I just want to see Constantinople in a huge double spread, man. Will One Piece end before we get there?
-
Weren't they going to Greece?
-
Greece was part of the Roman Empire, back then. The capital of which was Constantinople, or Miklagard, for the norse peoples.
-
Getting only 20 pages' worth of content after a two-month absence is painful, to say the least. And what's worse, the content could've been crammed in less pages, too (the love for Garm is real, though <3).

That, and you just forget so fast what happened the last chapter..

Oh my god, an anime by Wit Studio has been announced. Get hyped.
-
-
Now buy some fucking hardcovers.
-
Chapter is out, and wow, an anime for Vinland?
Bet on another Berserk adaptation

I doubt that with Wit Studio making the anime. Their animaton quality is a big draw to most of their series actually, I'd say.

And another one.

Don´t know much about anime studios beyond madhouse and such, are they that good?

They are a more recent studio, but they're the ones behind Attack on Titan, as well as Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress & The Ancient Magus' Bride. And while I haven't yet watched those, I know that they at least look gorgeous.

Chapter 148: https://readms.net/r/vinland_saga/148/4980/1
Oh oh! Thorfin is back. Looks like things are going to come to a head between Hild and Thorfin. Unless Gudrid steps in of course.

That was a close call for Thorfinn… -
Even Thorfinn is done with this arc.
-
-
I really hate that crossbow new character. It makes obvious to the reader that Thorfinn will not kill the character, since we know he will not die. I really don't get why the author chose to include her.

That's a vow Thorfinn did it way before meeting her, so even if he never met her and killed again that would be betrayal of character development anyway.

I agree but a character arc in such a manga could also include betraying his vow and then repenting… at least in theory, to make moments like this one full of tension. But nope, crossbow girl always watches

New chapter: https://mangadex.org/chapter/388061/1
I think Sigurd stands a chance since he uses such an irregular weapon too, let's see how it finally ends…
-
Heck yeah, daggers!
-
Waiting for Thorkell to crash through the gates right in the middle of their fight while everyone's distracted
And of course he'll be all pissy like "WHAT ?! YOU'RE HAVING FUN WITHOUT ME ?!!" -
Can't.We.Get.Out.Off.The.Baltic.Already.

Great another stance of blue balling Thorfinn's fight.
Another month is the damn Baltic.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sigurd became unexpectedly entertaining over the years.
-
I recently began reading the Iceland Saga of Egil (dates back the same time as VS). Discovered names like Ketil and Thorfinn so I think Yukimura is familiar with those Sagas, which describe the struggles of the vikings in Norway and Iceland. England and the Danes are mentioned loosely, so Yukimura could fill in the gaps in his Saga with no problem.
The pacing in these Iceland sagas are very fast when the protagonists just pillage some coasts or do normal things like keeping their farms together. If there is war in Norway on the other hand, these sagas zoom in and describe every movement of Egil, his brother Thorolf or other characters like Björn.
This mirrors the current situation right now. All the important characters are in one place, so the Series is slowed down just like in the old days. Problem is, so far in this manga we basically got warring in England, warring in Danemark and the Baltic. Even these old sagas were somehow better paced, imo. Why is the manga named Vinland Saga and are they even heading to Miklagard? I seriously doubt that our longing for adventure will be fulfilled.

Alas. Back when Sigurd's father made the deal I thought it would take them forever to reach Greece and sell those horns (that was their initial intent, right ?), but at least that sounded like a promising adventure. Then the Baltic war started and it seemed Thorfinn might cut short and secure himself a fleet, or some experienced viking sailors, or anything else that would give weight to his side of the deal. Something to hasten the preliminaries and get ourselves on the way to Vinland.
And now a year later (or more?) we're still stuck in a tiny spot of the Baltic. Meh. -

Typical War is Hel chapter.
Still in the baltic.
Prediction to leave the baltic:20 chapters.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

…I must have been mistaken, I thought this was a manga about a viking named Thorfinn on his way to Vinland.
Instead we get a no-name nobody on his way to nowhere. Boo-hoo, woe is me, war is bad. I can't believe that took an entire chapter, to top it off. 4 panels of Thorkell fighting is too little a compensation.
-
This was a damn fine way to start off the chapter… wait a minute. Where's the rest of the chapter? This was the entire chapter? Goddamn this manga and its pace...
-
Yeah too much focus on no name soldier.

My reaction exactly… was going back 3 Times and watched If i missed the end or something
-
After having played God of War, the no name soldier should be glad that there were no Valkyries.
Seriously though, this manga still manages to catch me off guard sometimes LOL
-
There is no Odin.
-
https://mangadex.org/chapter/469531/1
Have we seen Thorfinn be this smug before?
Also I think Thorkell may have jizzed in his pants. -
For some reason Thorfinn's face felt off the entire taunt sequence, like if he was drawn by a different person. Maybe indeed because we're not used to seeing him put on smug airs.
I'm still impatient to be done with the Baltic, nonetheless. -
For those who might be a little confused at some parts that has no Thorfinn is because we are seeing his first-person perspective.
Neat.
-
For Odin's beard let's just get out of the Baltic already.

! I love that reference, never gets old
-
Greece 2019. Yay or Nay?
-
Maybe, if Thorkell finds out he can wage war down there against Spartans and Seljukian Yetis, the author decides to move us along with him.
-
The only good thing to come out of the Baltic is that Shinning reference.

And Garm. Definetly Garm.
