We got one panel of Miklagard!
Vinland Saga

Kind of disappointing that it isn't a giant woman.
-
https://mangadex.org/chapter/789391/1 Thorkell got cheated into not rising his son in battle.
-
He had enough chances to, erm, create more in whole England.
-
Thorkell being pictured as a storm/demon seems about right
-
Didn't Thorkell never thought of checking if the baby had a penis or not?
-
That would be just like him, yeah.
Also, rejoice ! You are getting a giant woman, kinda. -
Preparation arc

The chapters have become way too short considering they're released monthly. A shame…

Yeah… the pacing of this series has killed it for me. It used to be simply amazing, but for a long time I haven't found anything interesting about it. I was liking the crew building and travelling to Constantinople side of things, but then it all ground to a halt in the Baltic to focus on something that was overall irrelevant to the main storyline. Not to mention we immediately cut forward and skipped that whole premise... I just don't know what to make of it anymore.
-
To be fair, only now it's really a saga to Vinland.

That's like saying One Piece will only be about One Piece when we reach Raftel… :ninja:

Same here. I enjoyed immensely everything that happened up to and including the slavery arc, then the Baltic killed it. There are still brilliant chapters that get me going every now and then (Sigurd and Halfdan's arc recently, or the actual trip to Vinland that's only just starting to take shape) so I hope the series can kick off again, but Constantinople remains as a huge disappointment stuck down my throat.
-
Imagine a Constantinople arc, half the size of the Baltic, how glorious it could be. Odin be dammed, Baltic is now my least favorite sea.
-
What if we get Constantinople as a 5 chapters flashback or something?

I'd like even a single chapter of it, but it doesn't change the fundamental criticism, for me. We were promised a journey with a specific goal. Kind of the same premise of One Piece. Then we just stopped at a single location for waaaaaay longer than we should have. Which most people did not find that interesting anyway. And then we skip the rest of the journey and move on with the story. It's a sort of betrayal. It soured things. And again, the pacing of things doesn't help at all. It would be like knowing that we were going to Wano but taking the detour to Totto Land and then skipping straight to Laugh Tale because Oda got tired or something.

New Chapter. Still not on the boat.

It would be cool if the translator used our Þ for this, but of cousre it would be strange for most people to read. Þing is the word we still use for the same thing in modern Icelandic and our parliment is Alþingi (All Þing).

As a greek i was so excited to see the crew travel to my home country and see how Yukimura would portray Greece during that period. Constantinople too. I was really disappointed and fell off almost completely ever since then.

Well, he's right. A certain Njal is one of the greatest protagonists in the Iceland Sagas.

You mean… Constantin... Oh it's just friggin' America. Pft. Who cares about the title of the series. :getlost:
-
The great theft of Constantinople for the Baltic arc is the cardinal sin of this manga.

I want Full Eyes to die in a fire.

So, someone recommended this series to me. Obviously I'm asking the choir here since you're all reading the weekly, but what makes this one worth getting into?
-
It starts as a generic viking era revenge story but as the develops the main character gets a long and amazing character arc that shits the tone of the story to living with the consequences of their actions and trying to find inner peace and a peaceful land.
-
If you like Berserk then you will probably like this one as well.
-
But then it's ruined by the fact that we're promised a journey to find One Piece and then we stop for ages in the Alabasta civil war and, by the time it's finished, instead of continuing the journey, we have a big timeskip and go straight to the final war, while being just informed that yes, they found One Piece.

Don't…remind...me...of...the...BALTIC.

What if I really liked Berserk at one point but kind of stopped giving a damn like 15 years ago?
-
It might be the same with Vinland saga then, depending on what you liked/ceased to like in Berserk.
Initially I was drawn in by the art (it's not in the same league as Berserk or Vagabond, but I'm a sucker for anything medieval with a semblance of historical accuracy on costumes). The first arc, childhood of Thorfinn (MC) and his years as what is essentially a child soldier among a band of viking mercenaries, takes place in medieval England/Scandinavia and explores his relation with the murderer of his father and the rise of a timid prince into a ruthless king. Well executed but probably nothing new for a reader such as you with much mileage under their belt. Then is the farm arc, with MC character arc Pariston was refering to. Peak of the series as far as I'm concerned, it would be ok to lose interest afterwards or skip the Batlic war arc entirely. These days we're moving forward again, but the time skip Chrior mentioned remains one very stingy disappointment for me.
! We were promised a trading odyssey across medieval Europe to Constantinople, which was eventually off-paneled after a lengthy war arc that frankly wasn't even interesting, the above-mentioned Baltic arc

Wouldn´t call it that, unless revenge itself is generic to you.

Well I can't say directly how much fun Askeladd and Thorkell are without giving away the first part plot, can I?
