Alright, I have a question… wtheck was up with the forbidden water in Arabasta. The four soldiers drank it and died, because of the time limit, to fight Sir Crocodile. I know it was filler (it was filler right?? o,o), but regardless, why did they make NO mention of it later in the Arabasta war?? Or even after? It's like, Vivi just forgot about them… Doesn't Toei try to connect fillers? Like when they showed people from the G8 arch later in the series, and in a movie. I've even heard that Aisa from the Apis arch might return, as in, they might have a few episodes about her island or something.

My point is, it's almost like the animators forgot about the "Hidden Water" thing. What happened!?

I think they served a purpose, they showed how insanely strong Crocodile was. It certainly was a random sub plot, but it did have a purpose.

Yeah, seriously. Crocodile completely schooled Luffy without even getting hit. That doesn't scream "strong", yet a bunch of minor characters lazily slapped together at the last minute getting killed does?

That's one of Oda's worst moments in this entire series.

Yeah, it was poorly done, but it could've been done well if the Forbidden Water had been elaborated on earlier.

He wouldn't let them die like warriors by killing them, he just let them die and laughed.

Yeah it was just another way to showcase Crocodile's awesome douchebaggery. Plus the Tsumegeri looked flat out retarded, they deserved to die.

As for why it was never mentioned again...I don't see any reason why it needs to be, it was a rather self-contained incident.

HEY WAIT!!! That means ODA KILLED OFF some characters!! Yay!!~
BTW, they seemed cooler in the manga. If any character enters with a ~DOOM~ Then they look awesome. Even if they have a horrible character design.

It wasn't a strength issue it was a cruelty issue as previously noted. The whole idea was that they sacrificed their lives to gain the strength that they thought would succeed. Crocodile instead of stanging and giving their sacrifice meaning made it into a pointless suicide and thus not only dishonored their commitment but reaffirmed his apathy and contempt for those that hold dear commitment and trust for others.

Literarily it was a incredibly important event.

They showed just how Crocodile is. Evil. He wouldn't even give warriors about to die a probably dishonorable death from the drink, even though he knew they's die fighting him, and they wanted an honorable death to at least help their country. Yes Crocodile just say out of reach, and let them slowly die.

One of them was some Native American-Egyptian with a tomahawk, another was a stereotypical steroid man, one was a "thin and creepy" guy with some long and thin sword and the other was a mysterious guy whose eyes you could not see and used dual weapons.

Which is funny since those things are like bladed semi-circles on sticks, rather than katanas.

I always took the entire scene to be Oda´s tribute to Monthy Python´s Judean People´s Front. And of course to add even more to Crocodile´s badassness.

I've always kinda wondered if it would show up again too, I personally liked that scene, I never understood if they actually died or not though, but seeing that I never saw them again, and it sounds like a lot of other people believe they died, I guess they did. Weird that Oda actually killed off some characters…for once lol

Plus the whole town in general plus kureha made them seem so powerful but Luffy didn't really have trouble with him.

Crocodile isn't stupid. If he sees someone trying to get him wet, he has 2 options. He can move the sand(himself) out of the way of the blade, or use his hand to suck the water up. Luffy can continually bleed more blood and still has more on him. A sword would be slightly damp at best.

I think that, cliche or not(never sene this before) really shows jsut how heartless and evil Crocodile is, that these warriors want to help their country by at least trying, and probably die an honorable death. Instead ther'es no fight and they die probably a dishonorable way since they drank "forbidden" waters.

Buggy - Yeah, the one with the bomb, but also those guys he used as a shield against Luffy's Balloon.
Kuro - Yeah.
Krieg - He had that one guy who complained about Mihawk and then was shot..
Arlong - Yeah.
Mr. 03 - No boss, and actually Dorry was only for plot, so you can't really count him.
Wapol - Basically he didn't need any, since it was already fairly obvious plus appearantly EVERYONE were pissed at him.
Bellamy - Read Mr. 03, only replace with Cricket.
Enel - He had alot around him to get pretty evil already, kinda like Wapol. He did crash the God's level on that bean stalk, so maybe that fits.
Foxy - No need to. That arc was cheerful, so why put him to evil?
Lucci - No boss. The actual boss was the Buster Call, remember? Lucci was just the strongest, which always happened so far to be the boss. The BC though, crashed a whole ship with thousands of soldiers just to get Luffy, which has obviously kept with "The" Lucci for some time now. I know it was partly because of an admiral, but in the name of the BC as he was part of it.

It's not only limited to shonen only, too. Almost any series should have this kind of scene for the boss if he is really evil. It gets the hero snapped, plus it shows us how evil he is. w00t.

Seriously, if that scene had any point at all, why didn't he mention them later on? It's like Oda realized how bad a subplot it was to have 4 characters appear out of nowhere and die right away, and the less mention of it the better.

I'd be surprised if the forbidden water came back.

And I like this conception that as soon as you pull out water Crocodile instantly dies. It's like these people never read the manga.

The point of the forbidden water guys was to show how powerful Croc was, eventhough everyone already knew.

It would have made the scene not seem completely random, for one.

Don't you think it's strange that Chaka and Vivi were so angry when they died, but later on they didn't seem to even care? They didn't even visit their graves or anything.
