Do we know for certain that Hogback is responsible for all these creatures?
Chapter 445 "THE ZOMBIE" Discussion
-
-
Not for certain, no. But it seems pretty obvious.
-
Do we know for certain that Hogback is responsible for all these creatures?
No, …
... but I´d say it´s a VERY strong guess. The guy is a surgeon (look at the stitches of the critters), Hildon said he came to this island for some research that goes beyond the human understanding (implying he works on his own free will) and most important (plotwise) he´ll be a real opponent for Chopper (not as a brawler but a doctor). -
No not really but if that's his exact silhouette in that one panel where Chopper talks about him I'm not getting any good vibes from the guy.
-
I love how Oda was parodying the Zombie stereotype, awesome.
-

… oh so true! lol

Same here. He seems to be very creepy dude.
Cool avatar, btw.

Oda has a tendency to fool us with who are the good guys and bad guys initially, as you know.
-
Do we know for certain that Hogback is responsible for all these creatures?
Well, if it turns out otherwise that's an awesome twist.
At least by our view, I guess.MAN, I really can't seem to upload the whitish version. It closes every time for different reasons.
And ImageShack doesn't seem to work for me either.. anyone can please host my file for a bit? -
Now I'm sure this is going to be the Chopper Arc. And finaly The Fifth Person chapter will join the collection!
The atmosphere of this chapter is pretty amazing and I love the attention to details! The monster designs are wonderfully exaggerated.
Hogback looks like a candidate for the main villain position. -

Thanks your is really cool too.
That Man faced Lion is by far the creepist thing I've seen up to this point but it was so cute when Nami tried drawing her own sketch of it. Is it just me or has she been pulling a lot things out of thin air lately?
-
Great chapter i like the Man lion,Hildon, and Usopp fighting zombies
-
Read the scanlation by Kokotas [no mistake in spelling?], the jokes are way better. Laughed alot when the zombies were angry at Usopp with his fire!
Yeah, the man-faced lion was creepy, gave me chills. By far the first thing ever to give me chills in OP.
I said it and I'll say it again, the zombies are one of Oda's best multipile-company, if not the best. And I can somehow say it's the best.On a side note, no Zoro this week.. I was hoping to see any color in his personality since Oda changed him a little since Brooke appeared, freein him from the shallow character he's been since the start of the GL. Hope we'll see more of him.
I'm gonna love Brooke forever if it turns out he got the Old Zoro back. -
I'm just thinking just how it would of been if $kids had reached this arc. Chopper would be trying to repel evil with a stick instead of a cross. That would have been funny.
I don't think that Nami or Usopp have been Zombified. Sanji would cook up Chopper for sure for allowing something like that to happen to Nami. (Actually it would be funny to see Sanji falling for Zombie Nami…)
Sanji: Nami-swaaaan~
Z-Nami bites Sanji
Sanji: Nami swan, every tooth in my shoulder is like a perfect day! Mellorine Mellorine! -
When I saw the lion-guy, I was like "….. Moji?!?" (erm... the... the guy in Buggy's crew with his lion).
Oh my gosh! What if the Buggy-Crew reached this island, became Hogback-victims and we just saw what happened with "Moji"? (Maybe the centaurus was Kabaji (the sword guy) after all... damn, I hate to use their german names ^^" ) ... and the thing on the kojote was the slave boy oo" I need more sleep XDAnyway... it looks like the "horses" could be enemies in this arc too... oo"" supports Brooke vs. Centaurus No, wait! supports Franky vs. Centaurus
-

Holy shit, I checked. Their outfits matches!
Okay, if this is true, then where's Buggy? -
Well, it seems that something made these zombies, all of them are numbered, even the tree zombies, so I'm sure that will be an important role in upcoming chapters. One of the bigger numbered ones I saw was 730, so it's probably safe to assume that there are at least 730 zombies on the island, and since these were über low level zombies, it's possible that there could be well over 1000 zombies roaming the island. (from img16 from the raws BF provided, it almost looks as if there is a zombie numbered 616, which some people believe to be the true number of the devil, and that 666 was a mistranslation. The first number is hard to read, but the second two are clearly 16.)
Another theory I just came up with could be that the zombies are numbered in accordance with their power, since it seems that the one with the highest power and cognitive ability was number 21.
So the theories I have are: The zombies are numbered chronologically, in the order they were made, or they are numbered in accordance with how powerful they are.
-
@AD-HD:

Okay, if this is true, then where's Buggy?man, wouldnt this be weird if it was true. Buggy vs Usopp imo, if they are on the island.
-
@Luffies:
I would laugh if Dr. Hogback wanted to put Ussop's nose on Nami.
-
nice, thanks again nubfaces.
-

Ohhhh.. I'll second that theory.
It's logical because Hildon should have been made after those zombies, plus I'm sure we'll see the numbers go down the closer the villain is to the boss.
-
Stephen's got his trans up.
The zombies are great:
Zombies: Wotch it, ya soddin' wanker!!
Wot if ya set me aflame, eh!
Arsonist!!
Ya filthy bahhstard!!Also, what do you think was in the wine that hildon gave nami? He was pushing it on them but nami got too freaked out by the lion and dumped it on chopper.
Also, the forest creatures are chanting:
Things: (New prey, new prey, kekekeke)
So they're not the best intentioned bunch it seems.
-
Is it just me or has Oda's drawing style changed ALOT since the end of the last arc to the begining of this one? Weird.
-
This chapter's art was brilliant. My hat is off to you, Oda.
-
Also, what do you think was in the wine that hildon gave nami?
Or do you suppose it even was wine? Maybe it was blooooood! … No, I think it was wine, but I'm guessing it was laced with some sort of sleeping potion. Notice that Hildon keeps the bottle with him when he flies away.
And notice Usopp's words just after they escape from the zombies :
"A nice glass of water -- that's what I want".Well Usopp, I'm sure the Doctor -- or his batty minion -- would be glad to oblige your wish for water ...
(Maybe that's how we'll find out what the wine was spiked with -- if the water's spiked with it as well).
As for the Will Eisner book that I mentioned earlier -- I found it online finally. It's called the "Spirit Casebook of Haunted Houses" -- not for the fainthearted, as you can tell from the cover. Too bad I was fainthearted when I first encountered it.
Nightmares for weeks.
Months even. -
It's a bottle of wine or whatever he gave to Nami…
-
So, next chapter, these 4 kids and their dog will be riding in their van, and it will conveniently break down in front of Hogback's mansion…
-
@Fire Fist:

well it'll actually be five
luffy, zoro, sanji, franky, robin and probably the ghost dog, but i get what you're sayin -

It is? Dammit, I thought I found a clue to Brook's missing shadow. I can't believe I missed that.
-
(referring to Scooby Doo from a few posts before)
and he would have succeeded if it weren't for them meddling!
I know, I know, old joke, not funny, etc.
But mentioning that cartoon in my presence is like singing "Shave and a Haircut" while standing beside Roger Rabbit.
-
If Hildon turns out to be a villain, who should fight him? I know it's too early to tell, but I'd like to see his ass kicked!

Tee-hee!
random I remember someone saying that the silouetes in the beginning of the Hikari E opening reminded them of other the episode title screen with Scooby and the gang running…ever since then I've always wanted to take the Scooby Doo music and put it over a loop of that opening scene.... -
The tree numbered 115 looks exactly like Foxy… Guess we know what happens to him after the DBF.
And wow, Nami needs to put some real pants on. -
Sweet!
Well done, Cosmic, well done!So Cosmic, do you think Usopp will get his glass of water when they enter the castle? – annnnd -- if I can borrow boiga's question for a moment (thanks boiga!) : if Usopp does get his glass of water from the castle inhabitants, what do you suppose will be in it?
-
hidon and the guy on the horse are most likly hogbacks underlings
we see hogback's outline in page 7 (cool) and zombles(allsome)
we either have next chapter with luffy co or follow them into the mansion to see hogback -
Sweet!

You might be looking too deeply into it. XD He could simply get a glass of water…or be given a suspicous one and refuse. But..it's hard to say until we meet the old doctor. It could potentially be interesting. I'm not very good at guessing things without any hints.
-
-
FLY HILDON! FLY! I predict Hildon is Usopp's fight.
-
Yeah Hildon is the best match for a sniper.
-
Woo, forgot today was Friday (well, actually Saturday now). Thanks for the scans, Battle Franky!
Did anyone noticed how Chopper portrayed Dr. Hogback while he talking about him. It was a scary looking guy with pointy fingers holding two (count them, TWO!) scapels in his hands. Why are all the best doctors scary one way or another?!:ninja:
I think Usopp forgot his bag (and maybe Kabuto) back on the ship. I wonder if there's enough time for another Usopp invention while inside the mansion.:sideways:

… because doctors are born to be scary
(They are working with blood all the day... how can they not be scary? XD)
So... now we've got a "Moji-Lion", a "Kabaji-Centaurus" (damn german names x.x) and a "Foxy-Tree"... Well, Oda is either bored or we noticed something important XD

Well, I think it's romanized Mohji and Cabaji [or Kabaji].
Anyways it seems like Oda takes ideas for the zombies from past villains, so we might see Luffy saying "BABBOOM?!" when noticing a Buggy zombie. XD
-
I can say with some certainty that Hildon at least is a bad guy. That "Hee Hee Hee!" while flying away from the carriage convinced me. Also, despite their comedy, the zombies are dangerous. They were biting Usopp and Nami, though they didn't seem to be rending flesh or tearing out organs; feats they might well be capable of based on the degree of strength they displayed in turning over the wagon. Also, is it just me or was extra attention given to the shading on Nami's breast?
-
Yeah. Anime girl on all fours… being attacked/raped by the undead? Come on. GOtta have shaded breasts.
-
I get the feeling that Dr. Hogback is gonna be as crazy as Wanze. The weird animals that are on Thriller Park just scream "Doctor with a disturbing personality". He might be even more disturbing that Kurotschi from Bleach.
-
So if we assume Hogback created all those creatures, what's with the shoddy craftsmanship. I mean, look at what Franky did to his body, no scars at all. I guess it's because they've been dead?
-
So, basically, this chapter only told us that Hogback is a surgeon and Na/Cho/Uss took forever to get to his house.
-

Yeah, that lion gave me chills. If it's Dr. Hogback's he's twisted for sure.
I say he tried to cure people from and that he believes he found the medicine to cure all deseases. Chopper changes his mind about him, argues with him and teaches that bitch a lesson.
If that happens and nobody will know about it outside of the SH, I will die. -
@Ark:

Eh, the scars are probably Oda's method of showing us that the faces and other things are not natural. It screams loud and clear that "Cerberus is obviously the product of experimentation."
