Panda Man headstone? Is our beloved Panda Man dead?
Chapter 445 "THE ZOMBIE" Discussion

Hehe, I knew if I went to sleep, it would come out.
Thanks.
-
Thanks for the chapter BF!
Now downloading, if I can I'll try making it HQ [or at least not yellow].
-
Who is that? Hildon's bro?
-
@AD-HD:
Who is that? Hildon's bro?
It's Hiruma from Jump's Eyeshield 21 - he's captain of the Deimon Devilbats.

Okay. Hiruma and Hildon. They could be brothers.

Ya-ha!Ohhhh my god.
That made my day even more awesome.Looks like a very good chapter. The art is alot better than the last chapter too, plus so many stuff appearing unexplained.
Kinda like Skypiea, actually.I loled when it turned out the zombies are tired after a bit of running. XD

Panda Man headstone? Is our beloved Panda Man dead?
you know, there is pandaman also written on the poneglyph in arabasta and i don't think he's part of this country's history ^^
-
Awesome Hildon and Hiruma simile.
I wonder if Dr. Hogback, Dr. Vegabank and Doc Q got somekind of relation to eachother.
It seems like all the creatures with scars and numbers are ceations probably by Dr. Hogback, but I wonder where the ghosts come from.
I would love to see the cerberus, the centaur and Hildon fight someone..
Overall nice chapter, not so much to discuss about it though…
-
Thanks for everyone that provided this chapter.
And now I'm starting to think that whoever this Dr. Hogback is (whether or not its him doing it), they really have a lot of time on their hands to create all the weird stuff on the island. And don't get me started on the zombies…not a zombie fan, but these were rather strange ones that for some reason reminded me of Brooke...though one of them looked like one of those old "Madballs" toys. (the balls with the freaky or ghoulish faces) At least Nami, Ussop and Chopper are at the mansion...but if this is the welcoming commitee, then who knows what Hogback is like...
-
Wow! This chapter is brilliant. Oda always exeeds himself when he's making strange animals, but those trees are the best thing I've seen in ages. And the Zombie bit was cool, with them ripping Usopp out. And then Nami in the mud…Drool
And then there's the zombies insulting Usopp because he shot fire at them...
10/10

OP is really taking a turn for the strange… not that I am complaining. Mad props Jirogomi for that side by side... nice one! Oda is so good at getting inspired from other works and integrating it into OP. All hail the king!
-
I don't think that those zombies carry a curse or disease that could spread to others. They have numbers and look like they are built by Doktor Hogback. All the stitches indicate that they are probably not that different from all the other weird creatures on the island.
So no danger of zombification unless you are killed or captured and turned into one by whoever is building all the creatures.
-
Thanks BF.
Things look good. Cheshire Cat, zombies ftw. And it looks like Space Pirates are drilling for oil on the moon. Wow, political commentary from Oda? Whoda Thunk?
-
w00tz~!! Thanks BF~!!
-
-
I swear that Oda is now going into a Dracula Parody.
-

There is? Never noticed that… A pic would be nice to see.

it's unnoticeable for us.

i guess it's written in japanese or something like that.
-
Now the only thing left to see Hildon with a bunch of weapons, firearms and a football. YA-HA!
Great chapter. The zombie part was hilarious, Oda has out done himself. Kind of reminds of the Hellsing OVA Episode 1 with the imaginery zombies calling.
"The Police girl!" "Panties!" -
man, hiruma would kill that zombie. Then again, Hiruma's pretty scary.
-
I don't suppose that anyone has seen an expanded translation for this chapter? There are a couple of lines missing from the spoiler script.
There is something odd about this setup that I can't put my finger on. The frankenstein creatures are soooo happy that there are visitors that they are frolicking next to the carriage.
Did Hildon abandon them in the graveyard to have the zombies chase them towards the mansion? Or was it just to feed them to the zombies? OR was it because the zombies were attacking and he just wanted to save his own skin? Did the zombies attack the carriage after seeing hildon/sentaur/jackalrider and not see who was in it? It is possible that they were aiming for Dr. Hogback, right?
I still have an inkling that the zombies are the good guys. They have too good a sense of humor for them to be standard bad guys. Also, Brooke's companion that was fried by the sunlight likely was a zombie escapee. Unfortunately, it seems that these zombies do indeed have their shadows.
I think that there is enough confusion sown in this chapter to allow for decent discussion. What the heck is going on, anyways?
-
i also think, and nearly everybody here must think that the zombies are good guys. but i'm afraid of the noobish "see? i was right!" that we too often see here, when oda will clearly explain that they ARE nice guys.
but hell, every reason you put for hildon letting them in the graveyard is a valid one to me… can't see which one is the right one. still, i vote for the first (leading them to the mansion on purpose)
at first i thought the hiruma similarities due to the 21 number was just overanalyzed but now i want to believe oda did this on purpose...
-
I think that Hildon knew that zombies would attack. And that is why he and centaur left that carriage.
-
Thx for the raw BF~
lol I love those zombies, them being scared of fire like little girls, helping each other with detached body parts, uber speed but next to zero stamina, they are just too awsome!
And good catch on the Hildon / ES 21 connection, if it really is a homage from Oda to my currently second favorite manga, it'd be beyond awsome!
By reading the spoiler I thought this chapter is gonna be a bit of a drag, but Oda proved himself again to be the man that never lets me down~
-
Duh, the centaur was running like a bad guy oO" Maybe the strong strawhats have to defeat the 400 other creatures while the weak ones have to fight against the stronger experiments in Hogbacks castle…? o.o
Anyway, Hildon DOES look like a gay muppet XDThanks for the new chapter ^^
-
Oh, another thing, Hildon refers to Dr. Hogbak as "D", the katakana on top of it reads "Dokutoru" aka Doctor. So he refers him as doctor which is no surprise, but why Oda use "D" in the dialog, I think it's no mere coincidence or mistake.
-
Thanks for the chapters.
This has the feeling of the first chapters of Dragonball. Hildon looks like someone Kid Goku would meet.
-
the whole thing was reminding me of the Island of Dr Moreau meets some kind of zombie movie. and, not to be a hentai, I bet other authors will take advantage of the 'Nami gets overwhelmed by zombies' part of the story. Nice chapter after all. But who are they going to battle? :ninja:
-
Wow, zombies. Who didn't see that coming? And if Hogback is a surgeon, that further helps my point.
-

I think the opposite! Wasn´t it the main feature of the classical zombie movies that you got zombified when bitten by those cuties? I don´t think Oda will miss this one. Look at Nami and Ussop on the last page they both look not so well…
It could be some neat strategy by Dr. Hogback to let his guests get attacked by zombies:
"Oh, I´m sooo sorry! Of course I will help you with this horrible infection, you´re so lucky that I´m a world famous doctor ... well it might be neccesary to make some minor changes to your bodies, nothing major ..." (readies numbers 16 and 17 ...). -
LOL ! That's exactly what i was thinking!
-
Pandaman obviously faked his own death to escape the Tomato gang. That tombstone is old and weathered, obvously it was decades ago.
I would laugh if Dr. Hogback wanted to put Ussop's nose on Nami.
-
Thanks, BF, I'm loving this story arc. I wonder if the fast zombies are a reference to the remake of Dawn of the Dead or if Oda just did it to be different from the classical zombie. Not that it really matters, but dang this arc's fun. Can't wait to see what's happening back on the ship with the poltergeist thing. ^^

(readies numbers 16 and 17 ...).Indeed it is a classical feature of zombie movies, but my point that they look far too much like undead built from bodies à la Frankenstein, but a bit more decomposed, to be infectious. So I would vote for a more technical type of reanimation instead of a magical disease. It would fit the mad doctor theme better. All fo the wierd creations have stitches, while zombies in movies usually don't have them.
-
ARGH!
I made the quality a little better and not yellow [spreads joined, duh] with Photoshop around 6 hours ago.
I uploaded it to sendspace only to have it at 93% around a min ago, and have the page closed T_T
meh I'll try again.I think the Zombies don't have their shadows.. They were scared of the fire after all.
They're all funny, how they act and stuff. Purely Oda-ish. -
Man, reading a OP chapter without checking spoilers, nor the raw, and directly reading the scanlation is just awesome. Everyone should do that.
Very fun chapter again. And the arts were very very good, and with lots of details.
the scenery and the mood.
-
… So I would vote for a more technical type of reanimation instead of a magical disease.
I´m completely with you for the technical/medical reanimation (the stitches tell their own story) - but if intentional ("… now some nasty bacteria for the fangs, haha mad scientist laugh") or just coincidental (the hygienic level of a corpse housing in graveyard soil...), I really dont´t think it´s a clever thing to get bitten by them
.
What do you think Namis/Ussops expression on the last page?I´m waiting to see the Doktor, when he meets Nami and gets his hopes up on working on her body
. "Ah, my new number ONE!!"
-
like I said in another thread..this reminds me of Silent hill or fatal frame in a way.I hope Ussop and Nami are not zombified though. wonder if next chapter will show where Franky and Luffy are if they are heading to the same island
-
The first time I aren't interested in a arc… I don't know why... maybe cause of all the side stories which are going on...
-
Thanks Battle Franky.
Very entertaining chapter this week.
Best part was when Nami, Usopp, and Chopper looked outside, saw the monsters, rubbed their eyes, saw nothing, and then screamed that they did see something.
-
The art is by far the best part about this chapter; I love the inking for the scenery. I haven't read a translation yet, but it looks awesome so far.
-
I'm speechless. The way Oda made this chapter was just magical. This to me is the best chapter in ages! This chapter didn't even look like One Piece because of all the detail that was being given to everything, and the Usopp/Chopper spread was amazingly done. I felt like I was watching a movie!
This just popped up to my top 5 chapter list!
-

Master grammar you must.
Fun chapter.
-
Art-wise, this chapter feels like an old Will Eisner ghost-story graphic novel that freaked me out when I was a kid. I wish I could remember the name of it …
Oh, and a funny thought just occurred to me : Zoro's got so many scars now that if he walked barefoot and shirtless through the forest, I bet those critters would think he was one of them and leave him alone! (He'd have to draw a #3 on his forehead first though).
[thanks again to BF and everyone who provided mirrors, translations, and etc this week]
-
Oh, I just love all the wierd and creepy creatures Oda is drawing! Reminds me of what I used to draw when I was a kid….except creepier. XD
-
Awesome chapter!
-
Wow this Hogback guy is one sick freak. Who would even think of attaching human faces and legs on freaking trees? This is the only the beginning though and I can't wait to see the sort of creatures the Doctor keeps locked up in his Mansion.
Many thanks to everyone involved with the bringing us the raws and translations.
-
I see a zombie with the number "408" – assuming Doc's been numbering his creations chronologically, that's an awful lot of critters lurking about on this island ...
EDIT : or should I say "that's a lot of awful critters lurking about on this island ..."
