The home video release of Lupin the Third, Part 6 is January 24th, 2023.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

Finished up Part 6 last week

Anyone want to spend 500$ on a fairly badass statue?
https://figurama-collectors.com/products/lupin-the-3rd-lupin-fujiko-jigen?variant=43449422905569
I am so tempted. If Goemon and/or Pops was also in there I'd have to get it, but as is I have a few pieces of Lupin merch already so I'm probably good.
-
It's a nice statue. But that's too much for me. lol.
-
@Robby I would but that's a considerate amount of my salary so pass. Specially when I still want the Creator x Creator line.
-
Um, not sure what to think of this? https://i.redd.it/wkhq9vaq5lv91.jpg
"Tomorrow announcement already leaked : "Anime Franchise "Lupin the 3rd" - Production decision of Anime Prequel Project titled "LUPIN ZERO" ; Director Daisuke Sakou helms the new project at Telecom Animation Film studio. Teaser Visual." via @SugoiLITE"

Zero interest from me in the tales of Baby Lupin minus the entire supporting cast.
Though it IS interesting that they're definitively placing it in the 1960's as opposed to a more nebulous "before he became the thief you know today..."
Especially when you consider the manga started in 67, the first anime in 71-72, red jacket which is canonically and real world five years later in 77, and Cagliostro, where he was a matured older man, came out in 79.
Really does make you wonder where all the internet era blue jacket adventures fit in. I guess he's way less of a random lech and more just a Fujiko fan most of the time now...
-
Right of the bat my first thought is i have little interest in origin stories in general. And especially for a franchise that usually skips rope with continuity. But maybe a good production staff can wring something good from a less interesting concept. So maybe i'll watch leuwpahn babies
-
@Robby huh. I honestly thought those things were like cheap novelties for like a fiver a piece or something. 500 dollars for a decoration sounds wild to me. But collectors are gonna inflate prices i suppose
-
Oh there are definitely a lot of cheap 5-30$ novelties, usually made from plastic and painted cheaply. I have a few. Higher quality stuff can easily go for 70-100 in just that tier.
That thing is a large polystone statue with lots of details and paint and high quality materials and its a foot tall and stuff. Those generally go for several hundred dollars for a single character.
It's actually a really fair price on this thing given all thats in it, 3 characters, the car, multiple materials, and the background stuff... but its really weird to me to only have 3/4 or 3/5 of the cast on it so that makes it a much harder thing to go for. Like if it had Goemon I'd be way more tempted. Or Pops having grabbed onto the side or something.
I know its replicating a shot from the start of the blue jacket series but said shot isn't iconic enough to make me go "woah!"
I do have a 300$ Jinbe but that's the really high end of what I'm willing to spend. Once. That's not a regular sort of splurge.
-
Well, if there's one thing I've learned from Lupin III, there is no canon, and they can create stories that exist in their own universe that don't necessarily fit in with anything else.
Edit: Apparently there was a young Lupin arc in the original manga and someone pointed out his design appears to be based on that.
-
I remember there being a Lupin goes to university arc in the manga. Where he raped co-eds, framed the teachers and generally dicked around with Zenigata who was like the school president or something. Like most of the manga it was just vague plot run on slapstick nonsense and so bad it's good puns

I've been watching green jacket while doing the dishes and i have two observations. Count nipple is the best fake name in Lupin history, and the randomly yelling Lupin intro songs continually go from what the fuck, to kinda endearing and right back to who greenlit this. Such a bizarre choice

bam bam Lupiiiin the thiiiiird, Lupin, Lupin, Lupin Lupin, Lupin.....
-
The reasoning for why they went with a kid version seems kinda flimsy. Like yeah i just wondered what Lupin would've been like as a kid. He didn't sell me on that he had a plan for this beyond wouldn't it be cute
-
Yeah I understand they can't just add an entire extra car in order to include Pops with that statue but he was definitely part of the intended framing. Cool 500$ statue or no I just can't justify it.
-
Both dub and sub of Lupin the Third - The Woman Called Fujiko Mine have been added to Crunchyroll, This is another show that I need to watch eventually.

My recommendation is that it goes at the very bottom of the to do pile. It's just an odd duck

Ehhhh... you really don't.
It looks fantastic and stylish visually, a real homage to the original darker Monkey Punch stuff... but it is not really a Lupin series in tone or characterization the way it has been in basically any of the animated material. "It's a more amture and adult series!" is fine, there's room for variety in any long runner franchise, but I knew by the end of the first episode I wasn't going to enjoy it but I toughed it out because, well, it was the first new series in decades at that point but...
like four episodes in it has Zenigata showing up and groping Fujiko because he doesn't respect women and it's just... what?
I'm one of the two guys here that has seen damn near everything Lupin has ever done, and I still haven't gotten around to watching the movies done by the same team. and they're 7-10 years old now.
Maybe it'll be entirely your thing and you'll love it, but you're not going to get a Lupin show out of it.
-
Looks like there is going to be some Lupin anime news soon besides the current Lupin Zero and Lupin vs. Cat's Eye stuff.

Finally made it to the end of Part 6.
Probably the weakest "Main" Lupin series so far (Although I still haven't watched Part 3). Didn't mind the first half with Holmes, it was silly but I liked the twist thatBut the second half was just really stupid, even by the usual Lupin standards.
-
I'm starting to re-evaluate part 3, it has it's weird offbeat charm. Throw a shiny new dub on it and it might even become a classic. Well maybe not, but it'd be far more fun.
-
Aww come on, Jigen did not go to school with Lupin. Jigen met him as an adult when he was working for the mob. Or when the police hired him as a hitman if you are going by the manga. I'll accept literally any meet other than they knew each other from school.
-
Jim Henson's Lupin III Babies
-
I don't mind a kiddie Jigen too much, Lupin was always going to get a partner in crime of some sort, but hopefully that's it.
I don't want any bumping into a certain young samurai-in-training or flirting with a pre-teen Fujiko. -
His childhood bully Zenigata

Lupin origin stories are always changing. In the manga at one point, Lupin said they grew up together.
-
@CosmicDebris true in a sense. They switch around when they met, who they were working for, who mentored them etc. But everyone went to school together is bullshit of the highest order

No,no no. Fresh out of Police Academy Pops cameo.
-
I mean, If it was like all five of them went to school together, than yeah, that would be totally stupid. But considering Monkeypunch actually wrote that Lupin and Jigen grew up together, it's not that much of a stretch to say they went to school together at some point.
-
And here be a trailer https://comicbook.com/anime/news/lupin-zero-anime-trailer-poster/
-
@CosmicDebris for me it's the same. Why not go all the way and have everyone know each other from birth if the creators are that intent on making those kinds of decisions. Why not have Lupins parents know Jigens, Fujikos and Goemons parents and them having paired them all up in kindergarten. Jigen knowing Lupin since they were school kids shrinks the Lupin world in an, for me, unforgivable way
-
@pariston_hill the one saving grace could be beat cop Zenigata making a cameo
-
Okay the idea is still terrible but the fact that 12 year old Jigen still sounds like a 50 year old man kind of amuses me. And that they're doing a cover of one of the ooooold theme songs. And I like the art.
Dammit.
-
New trailer for Lupin Vs. Cat's Eye is out. Also the movie comes out next month on January 27th on Amazon.

Sounds on brand for the series.

I mean why not, but again, it was Monkeypunch's original idea of how they met anyway.
-
I want some sausegse and homefrise. To go along with 10 hambargyars.
-
Imagine going to a 20 minute Lupin stage show and its 10 minutes before Lupin actually comes out.
And Fujiko is just wearing a Black Widow costume, down to the wig.
-
I got two Lupin blu rays for Christmas. Which are Dead or Alive and Missed By A Dollar. I only watched Missed By A Dollar so far. I really enjoyed Missed By A Dollar, there were a lot of pretty funny moments in the special. The running joke with Fujiko hiding under table and not wanting to pay off her debts made me laugh really hard. Also Zenigata had some really funny moments in the special.
-
I Just watched The Bad Guys.
That's 100% a Lupin movie in disguise. Like, it took gags directly from it.
-
For a limited time, TMS got Mystery of Mamo (Pioneer dub) up for free to watch on youtube.
-
Pluto tv's Lupin the Third channel have been added to the Canadian version of Pluto tv.
-
Lupin channel? You new worlders get all the fun stuff
-
@Sano watched it again just to see how it held up, and missed with a dollar is one i would call so average it's okay. It works a lot better in Japanese somehow, less bad accents to worry about. The oil scam is fun tho.
-
I just finished watching Lupin Vs. Cat's Eye. I really enjoyed it. As a fan of both series, the movie did a great job of using the main cast of both series. The dub cast of Lupin is great as usual in the movie and the new dub voices for the Cat's Eye trio are really good. If we get more Cat's Eye anime project in the future, I hope these voices for Hitomi, Rui, and Ai returns as well for Toshi. Also I want to mention I like the new versions of some of the songs from both Lupin and Cat's Eye soundtracks. I really like the new remixed of the Cat's Eye theme.

Did your eyes bleed?

@wolfwood Pluto tv is a website that pretends to be an old tv station, not actually a station. It has commercials and you have to catch stuff while its airing and everything.
