100 crack fist? DRUG REFERENCE!! AJ IS A DRUGGY!!!
just kidding, I honestly don't remember… I haven't read it in along time..
Yeah, that was it.
HnK was my favorite series…...in 7th grade. :P
I've been wanting to know what's been happening in Souten no Ken/Fist of the Blue Sky. The last chapter (english version) I read was in the last issue of Raijin Comics Magazine (before it got cancelled). I really liked the series….

your fat.
Souten no ken is awsome too. I really wnat to know what happens next, damn raijin got cancelled…
Fat? Yes, a whole 8% of me is. :P
I think it's safe to say that the Fist Saga is just screwed, as far as the U.S. is concerned. Anime was cancelled, manga was cancelled, manga was cancelled again, PS and PS2 games denied, new manga was cancelled….
raijin wasn't "cancelled" they are "retooling" heh pisses me off really
kinda wish they would at least put the rest of the series out in america :(
glad i at least the HK Bootlegs of HnK

Yeah…but they've been retooling for quite awhile now...I don't think they're coming back (at least not as a Raijin Comics Magazine).
Gutsoon should just start releasing graphic novels only or something...since there's no way Raijin ever had a chance of competing with U.S. Shonen Jump in the first place (as much as I wanted it to be able to). First it was a weekly magazine, then it changed to monthly...then it just quit.
I also wanted them to finish the colored Hokuto no Ken volumes....
I agree, i need me keiji, fist of the blue sky, revenge of moufloun, grappler baki and bow wow wata fixes! LOL
I'm have withdrawal simptons from no Keiji…
raijin was so awesome and i wish they had a bigger fan base cause they had excellent manga in there
moufloun was frickin awesome… kinda mad i dont get to see how it ends
blue sky... was getting damn good!!! why!?!? why did they have to stop in mid series
wata...a good lil funny but serious manga and i think it would have gotten way way beter as it went along
keiji...tara hetsuo did this also, thats all thats gotta be said
samurai manga ( cant remember the name of it )...just insane, with those guys using the christian church as a front to transport opium into japan and to set up the empress...damn that was just so good!!!
grappler baki...i saw most of what they had shown in the manga already in the anime but i wanted to see if it was any different >_>
Hokuto No Ken is awesome. I've only read the first volume of the manga series, but I own the entire series thanks to a HK set from EBay. Fantastic stuff, and I've been into it since I was a lot younger, too.
How can you knock it? - The series is extremely good, and I believe it could've been as popular as stuff like Dragonball Z in the West. Too bad only France and Italy released it as a children's show, including all the original content, obviously.
I think people should look past the apparent violence in HnK, and concentrate more on the epic storyline. I mean, if Japanese children grew up with it, that shows how dumbed down the animà children watch in the West is.
Recently, I had a conversation about HnK with a Japanese tutor who was almost in her thirties, and she was really passionate about the show, as she'd grown up watching it when she was younger. I wish I'd had that same opportunity, but I more than make up for it these days.
And on the subject, I think Raijin Comics was an excellent magazine. Too bad it was put on that indefinite hiatus, as mentioned previous to my post. I really miss the quality it brought to Manga in the West.
On the HK set, is the "white blood" still there?

It depends what you mean, really. There's the usual red blood, black sillohouettes on red background, and yes, white blood. As far as I remember.
What's the deal with the white blood, Buccaneer?
I always figured either Manga Entertainment or the animators put it there because the red blood in the scene was too much. Like a way too tone down the blood flow. Which I never got, 'cause blood is blood.
It's been a long time since I've watched them, but I think that there isn't any red blood in the Manga Ent. DVDs.

**
( Just a heads up, there is a few things that could be considered Spoilers below. )
Originally, I think the animation was probably toned down a little due to the audience of younger people. There is red blood, sometimes… just a few scenes such as on Zeed's face in the first ever episode, and Club's claws when he licks the blood of them. Kenshiro spills blood whenever he has a few minor scratches and so forth, it actually trickles from his kneecaps when the Colonel cuts them open with the metallic boomerangs.
And I believe Ryuga's ( Yuria's Brother's ) death-scene, in which it is revealed by Toki that he had slit his own stomach open before fighting Kenshiro is fairly bloody, to my knowledge. Oh, and when Kenshiro finds Falco on Shura No Kuni, with his prosthetic leg missing after fighting that unknown, young Shura warrior.
I might watch a few more to confirm it, but there's plenty of red blood in there. Just sometimes, it can be white, and most explosion scenes show a sillohouetted death to tone down the obvious gore a little. Some characters often explode into white blood, then fading out into something like black. They totally vanish, usually, probably to keep the body count to a minimum.
EDIT: Manga Entertainment only had the rights to the first thirty or so episodes, and to my knowledge, they didn't edit the violence. It was released as an 18+ certificate. I have the Manga Entertainment DVD boxset, which only runs up to the end of the Amiba section, and there's red blood in there. Mentioning Amiba, it actually does have red blood running down his nose after Kenshiro strikes him in the face, revealing his real appearance.
Speaking of the Manga Entertainment release, what did you think of the English Dub? - I found it alright, but the techno soundtrack is horrid.
Oh, I only have the first two discs. I'm sure if I go over them I'll find some Kool-Aid, then.
The dub was forgettable to me. Not bad, but not something you'd praise. The soundtrack was horrid indeed. Even though I like techno, that was just….not right.
Do the HK sets have good subs? I mean, if they turn somthing as easy as "Nami" into "Naomi".....
I thought that Kenshiro was alright, he at least seemed to be trying to imitate Akira Kamiya, so I wasn't completely upset about it. He even did his own A-TA'S, too. Which, I believe, no-one outside of Japan has ever tried to perform.
I like Techno, too. And there was a few nice pieces of music, but when compared to the original, it was soon forgettable.
Good Subs? - Eh, no. I don't think they ever do. However, Kenshiro is always usually Kenshiro, but there's some really bad Engrish, sometimes. And on the more serious episodes, it can ruin it. But all I have to say is, that the HK releases are a cheap way to own the entire series, and they leave all the original content in.
I think that most of the subtitled names are usually correct, but I recall Jagi being referred to as "Jogi", and certain other little face-palm moments, one individual subtitle actually refers to Kenshiro as something like, "Shenkiro."
Which is a crime against humanity, in any language.
I loved HnK but what really annoyed me was how damn long the attack names were. They could make a whole sentence out of them!
"100 Crack Fist of the North Star"
"North Star Death Shot Fist"
"Furious Dragon Barrage of the North Star" (I'm not sure if this was the right name though, it was one of Shin's attacks and he used it to ram his fingers through Kenshiro's fist. That's what I remember it being named.)
Has anyone ever read Hara Tetsuo's debut manga, "Tetsu no Don Quixote"? I heard it was a series about motocross or something?
I was pretty good at an arcade game of Hokuto no Ken - the one with punching pads. Man, it ate my pocket my for good but it was worth of it. Although I'm not all familiar with the comic or the animation. I've read a bit of it but it really didn't turn me on, fighting comics aren't my cup of tea. It shares the flavour of Jojo though, I think.
Early, crude Jojo. :P

right down to the ridiculously oversized people. Could the Ken, Dio and Johnathon have been any bigger?
Yeah, most 80's manga heros either looked super buff like Jonathan and Kenshiro or really rounded lookig like Saint Seiya and Captain Tsubasa. It also always seemed that the buff ones had a more realistic look to them and had HUGE eyebrows.
i love the noise he makes when he starts attacking real fast.
WAKAKAKKAKAKA
This is a really big pachinko game now. like most pachinko games it sucks ass tho, but they've revived the series pretty well through the use of it in casinos.
they have a pachinko ps2 hokuto no ken game. I saw it and thought, "oh shit, some fist of the north star fighting goodness," but i was fooled and found it it was a fucking piece of shit pachinko game. Maybe real pachinko but not fake computer generated pachinko
What the Hell is with pachinko? Why is there so much attention paid to it?
yeah, who the fuck cares about that shit?

Exactly.
And when I heard there was one for the DS, I thought.. "Fuck, this is going to be like, hitting the screen with the little stylus thing, like the Arcade game."
Of course, it was a fucking Pachinko game. But who else played that arcade one? - It was awesome, but I never really got the hang of it. I was punching too hard, rather than timing it, I think.
Yeah, and considering the fact that DS can suck my balls, what a worthless piece of garbage.
ANYWHO, Back on topic…I've actually never gotten around to see this movie, but I heard it was actually pretty good.

If you mean the animated version, it isn't so bad.
Avoid the live-action one at all costs.
Is the live action really THAT bad?
I can't enjoy it. You know what my favorite comedy is? Freddy Got Fingered. I've also seen: Santa with Muscles, Glitter, and Blacula, among other travesties. But I regret FotNS.
There's a live action Hokuto no Ken? o.o
yeah
if you wanna see why americans should not do live action versison of japanese manga and anime
FotNS is the number one reason
It honestly had no exploding or anything like that
The only thing that was similar to the actual FotNS was the characters names otherwise, save yourself the trouble haha

Yes, yes it is. I only need to say one thing, and that is, nobody explodes. - Except for some retarded looking biker that is supposed to be Zeed, with 666 crudely made to look like a scar on the side of his head. His head turns into an pregnant stomach, and pulsates a little bit, like a baby kicking inside.
So, no. It sucks.

Yes, it was made by an Australian director, and was a joint American/Japanese production, apparently. It was made like in the mid/late nineties, and stars.. well, people who look nothing like Hokuto No Ken characters, and a story that could barely even be associated with it.
I think the only actual person you could consider a star who appeared was Malcolm McDowell, or, Alex from "A Clockwork Orange."
He appears in it for about five minutes, and is killed right at the beginning. By Shin. With a **GUN.

Even the character names got raped. The character of Jagi, that looked nothing like him and was hammed up by one of the Penn family, was called Jackal. As most of us know, Jackal was the character that released Devil Rebirth in the original animÃ
series. I don't think it even references "Jagi" being Kenshiro's Brother. And I thought the animÃ
/manga Jagi was a good character, kind of like Iago from "Othello" in the original format.
Oh, and another thing. Gary Daniels, who played Kenshiro, looks little like him, and kind of acts like a retard when he performs one of his special moves. He says, "You're already dead", like.. once, and it sounded absolutely terrible.
In other words, terrible. A piece of cinematic history that should explode from the face of this planet.**__
LOL Ahhh someone else agreed with me hahaha
ANyways the arcade game was incredible, theres one arcade about an hour from my house that still has it but the pads dont always work right, they stick and what have you cause people get pissed at the game and throw the glovws at it >_> Bastards!!!
heh I wish they would find a way to release that arcade game for the home consoles it would be awesome
Hey dont diss HnK art style, its incredible that it looks so sketched out but it conveys so much of whats going on. You can easily tell what is happening despite that it's "crude" lol
Eh, sometimes. :P The manga's "movement" actually confused me a bit from time to time.
LOL
Whats confusing about Ken punching and kicking a shit load of guys who preyed on the weak
I mean honestly does it matter what order they died in as long as they died? XD
At the end of the day, awesome. Friggin' Awesome.
Kenshiro = mix of Bruce Lee and Mad Max.
Bump
I've recently started reading this & have finished Volume 2 I'm liking Kenshiro ATM.
Kickass series I must say.
For those who don't know, there's a FotNS fighting game that was released a few months ago in Japanese arcades, many say the game's great, but no word on a console release has been stated yet.
….and before I leave....anyone know where to find Volume 3+?
I think the reason the arcade game isn't getting a console release yet is because it's supposed to be doing great in the arcades at the moment (and arcades have supposedely been in decline for awhile). So Sega might not want to release a console version too early. Maybe after it cools down in the arcades they will. At least this is what I have heard. The videos look cool.
I'm downloading a torrent of the anime right now (only the ones that weren't released on dvd in the U.S. though…but if I can't find the DVDs, I'll get those episodes too). If I can succesfully finish (it's a slow process) I will start on the manga (which shouldn't take as long). I really want to get all the Raijin color volumes up to when they quit, and then download the rest.
http://kenshinscans.anxious-anime.com/
Doesn't have volumes 3 to 7 yet though…but I'm sure they'll get around to it.
^Yeah my friend on the net told me when I asked for Vol. 3+ that they weren't scanlated yet.
I hope they do so soon, I wanna get ready for the fighter :molly:
The series didn't interest me much until after the events with Rei (although the Jagi fight was alright). The Souther arc is still one of my favorites. It's a good series, dated compaired to todays mangas, but still a good series. A vast majority of characters were inspired by Kenshiro (Gutts, Jotaro Kujo, Johnathan Joestar, etc.).
I finally got back into the series yesterday, after taking a massive pause around the Jyuuza fight. The beginning was really cool imo, and it got better until the Nanto Rokusei arc. The series always had a slight layer of cheese, but the last fight….
So far, I have mixed feelings about the time skip. It's still interesting, but the new characters aren't very good. I almost gave up with the advent of that whole Emperor style-thing. American Dad and Dolph Lundgren stick out the most.
But I won't lie, Ken on that boat with his cheesy biker clothes totally kicked ass.
Anyone know where I can Direct DL the anime? Also I found RAWs of Vol. 3-7, if anyone can provide some translations I might be able to do some LQ/MQ scanlations :P
@Freeman-12:
Anyone know where I can Direct DL the anime?
Wish I knew. I was trying a torrent, but it took about a week to finish an episode.
Heart of Madness fansubbing group has done episodes 44-93 and the movie. As far as I know, they're the only ones fansubbing FOTNS and they have in plan to release all 152 episodes plus the movie. Their releases are a bit slow, since they rely on free time of their translators.
This is their torrent tracker: http://www.purpleyoda.com/tracker/
They have a pretty active forum. If you have any questions, suggestions, or simply want to offer help (which will be certainly welcome), I recommend registering there.
