I found out about this game yesterday and went through various degrees of WTF and LOL, trying to decide whether it was great or meh that there was such an obvious One Piece rip-off mmorpg.
I'd try it, but I don't have much time at the moment (what with intensive Ragnarok Online leveling and an upcoming Granado Espada beta). Has anyone played it?
Yeah it's obviously based off some nut who liked the idea of One Piece.
After investiagating further, you'll soon realize it isn't truely worth it, if you want a free MMOG play Gunbound, similar style it appears, if you must have pirates there's a puzzle game(really boring) and 2 pirate MMOGs coming out soon one is Pirates of the Caribean from Disney and the other is something else.
Anyways no, it doesn't look good.
The home page has 2 obvious One Piece rip-offs, someone who clearly looks like luffy and someone who looks similar to sanji.
That's also Jack Sparrow up on top and I'm not completely sure what's up with that Ninja Hamster thing.
I see Jack Sparrow, Luffy, and Sanji ripoffs on the very front page, haha.
I like MMO's, but I'm not sure if it is worth it.

I played it a while ago. I thought it was pretty boring, but it had a interesting concept.
What I didn't like about this game was that you had to go so far out in town to kill monsters and level up. Also this game just takes you a while to get going and it's not really worth it. I saw some videos/ people attacks each other. That was pretty cool. Overall it's not worth it.
What's this gunbound? Is it piratey too. I waiting for the POTC mmorpg as well as the One piece online game too develop further too.

I just got back from an entire day of playing this. It is a good game.
It reminds me so much of R.O.S.E. Online and I only pray it doesn't go Pay 2 Play like R.O.S.E. did. Seeing how I failed to get to play WoW this'll be the game I'll be playing for now on.
In the first hours of playing I ran into a One Piece fan player with the username "Enel". I also applied to join a One Piece pirate guild on it.
It has classes like every MMO, and you have two different categories of guilds. Navy and Pirate. The lag in this game is very little, first game I really played with so minimum lag.
You all make think it sucks but it really is just a "hate it or like it" kinda game.
Are the ship battles fun?

Gunbound is one of those Korean games by small game companies. THey have a similar graphics style, anyways I think you can fidn their 2 game on Softnyx.net because they have a 3D fighting game too which is pretty cool too.
If you want a Pirate game there are two, count them two coming out, inlcuding Pirates of the Caribean from Disney, which I am basically waiting for them to do a classic Disney move and mess it up by making it too childish and everything nerfed so it's "safe" for kids to play too.
The other one people seem skeptical about, but the graphics look a bit btter and it's pirates but not based on Pirates of the Caribean, although the idea is similar, one just isn't based on a movie.
GS, there was no need for you to repeat yourself. I played Gunbound off and on for years, it is nothing like this game, not even in art style.
And Softnyx's other game is so awful, it was nothing but a glitch filled mess.
And I wouldn't look forward to that PotC game too much, Disney MMO's seem to suck. Look at ToonTown.

I'm not but still, there's another similar game, and considering Disney beign a big company, and likes to keep a reputation with being kid friendly and family safe, I don't know how good they can do it.
Lets look at it this way.
Things that might hold PotC MMORPG back:
1: It's a brand, it's restricted by the movies.
2: Disney likes to keep a family friendly image.
3: Disney isn't exactly good at video games. Ok, they suck at video games.
4: Big company's are more careful, they don't like risking something as possibly offensive(even if it's an accident that noone noticed happened) so that may limit content. They have a time limit and inspecting so much takes time from programming new things.
5:This is only Disney's second MMORPG, and so far it's MMO's are it's best games. Toontown is extremely glitchy and things jump around and such.
6: Social Interaction may be limited. Lets face it, Disney, to keep things "safe"for everyone may limit speech, or other social interactions such as crews or grouping. Toontown had the world's dumbest system of chat. Even freinds talking to one another via freind codes had text filtering. WTF?
It looked good at first, but the more you look atr it you realize that any other pirate game is probably going to beat it, so long as the other place has a clue what they are doing.

Anyways I noticed a ton of korean companies importing games that are extremely "cheesy" usually 2d sidescrolling style and often cartoony. Much like Pirate King(based on the look of the site) and GUnbound, not that gunbound is that bad. But alot of games are rather cheap and new content is additions to a simple game.
Some are fun, in the way that playing Pac-Man and playing Gears of War are both fun, and are basically 2 different games entirely, one is a classic arcade game from a long time ago and another is a modern expensive 3D game that just came out recently.
My point being, some are fun, all are mostly similar, but what do the koreans not understand that if they put a ton of effort into it it'll be awesome.
In restrospect WoW has a ton of content, there are even rumors that some quests haven't been found. Coh and CoV don't have many curious players that get calculations and such, and things are unknown there too.
In the end there's a small chance you'll get a popular and fun or even one aspect or the other, altohugh fun is more likely in some cases, if you go for simple.

I've heard some gaming resources suggest that it's a South Korean cultural thing to make anything into a MMORPG.

Ragnarok is a great MMO; it's just all the people who play it are so unbearably stupid that it destroys the games great potential.
My friends and I set up our own Private Server just for ourselves and we play on it and have fun all to ourselves.

It's not Ragnarok Online if there are no merchants vending in the city squares, there are healing NPCs in every dungeon, you get to level 99 in a week and most importantly there's no War of Emperium. But whatever, to each his own. My friends and I set up our own WoE guild in the p2p iRO server and have lots of fun regardless.
On topic: If you're looking for a good pirate game, I hear there's a game called Flroensia with pretty good naval battles. It's won prices and all.
actually there is WoE in most RO private series…..(sadly I tried the game at one point), can't even imagine the pure unadulterated boredom of going the through the retail.
War of Emperium is one of the most mindbogglingly stupid things I've experienced in that poorly thrown together game. It's hilarious how much retarded drama results from it.
I agree, Ragnarok's War of Emperium was hideously dumb. I still don't see how I managed to stay on Ragnarok long enough to actually experience it.
The only MMO worth playing anymore is the Kingdom of Loathing.

Well, I honestly don't mind not having merchants because they were the biggest fucking retards in RO I've ever seen, what with their "CHEAP ITEMZ HER HURY IN!!!" and over-priced items. And we don't have Healing NPC's because we think they're cheap and like to do things traditionally (Sitting down and resting or spending 5k at an Inn), the max level is something like 1000 (and the rates are 10/10/10).
And it's been said, WoE is retarded.
