Just re-read the chapter and understand it better now. The girls are getting seriously outnumbered. I hope we get at least one other girl to balance out nami' and robin. Someone with kalifa's personality. Anyway great chapter…i'm still wondering why brook ran off so quickly, and what was the other thing that came true that he was talking about before he ran off.
Also brook's pose in the second to last page reminded me of lafitte for some reason

Brook is pretty much tied with Franky as my second favorite character in the series after only 2 chapters. That and with the arrival of Thiller Park/Bark/Barque/Burg, I'm really excited for this arc.

Anyone else thinks that Oda purposely introduced this theme around these chapters because Ch. 444 is coming up? I'm not sure about Japanese but in Chinese the number 4 sounds like "die" and is considered bad luck. Like with the number 13 there are no levels (in hotels and stuff) with the number 4. Goes straight from 3 to 5.
Yeah, in Japan 4 is a grim number. There is even a small legend that says that at 4:44 AM, weird things happen.

Every week I am suprised at the density of One Piece as compared to the other Shonen mainstays. Its possibly the most endearing factor of the manga, that Oda uses every inch of his manga to convey information and flavor.
For example the fact that he remembered to add a lock to the fridge in the kitchen is a very nice little touch and shows an admirable attention to detail.
Overall while this is not the best OP chapter ever by a long shot it features a welcome dose of plot advancement. As the Italian's say "After a young pope it is good to have an old pope" or in other words, after a long lived influential arc its good to have a short lived arc in which things still change.

As far as I know "Burg" is a German word (meaning "castle"). I'm living in a city named "Hamburg" myself. I'd understand if it was transliterated to "ブルク" instead of "ブルグ". Since apparently, in Japanese, the transliteration of German "g"-sounds is sometimes made with a "k"-sound. For instance: Don Krieg = クリーク. I'd have expected it to be "クリーグ", but alas it's not.
If you know more about these phonetics of absorbed words in Japanese, please tell me!German has a phenomenon known as "final devoicing," which is the pronunciation of otherwise voiced consonants as their unvoiced equivalents when they show up at the end of a word. Thus, "Krieg" sounds more like "Kriek" in actual use. (I believe this phenomenon was actually reflected in writing, prior to Martin Luther and the creation of a German orthographic standard, but I digress).

"Iceburg" was "Aisubaagu," which strengthens the argument for a "er" or "ur" middle, but not a "g" ending. However, the word "iceberg" exists in English with Anglicized pronunciation, so it isn't reflective of final devoicing the way "Krieg" is.
All-in-all, I'd use a "wait-and-see" approach with regards to the island's name, simply because we don't have enough information as of yet. But whatever the case, it isn't "Park" unless the spelling in this chapter was a typo (which I doubt).

To tell you all the truth when I saw Brooke for the first time, I had mixed feelings about him, with most of them being negative. But now after seeing this chapter, he seems kinda interesting. Can't wait to see more of him!

IMO, don't really see what's so great about Brooke. Don't get me wrong, he's cool and all, but he doesn't really excite me that much. I find the story itself to be far more interesting.
As for the chapter itself, very enjoyable. I'm loving the constant Micheal Jackson references and I like the look of Thriller Park. Looks like this is gonna be a scary-ish arc.

And Brook of course is about the best guy since ever. I seriously would be dissapointed if he doesn't join the crew. He is equal with Franky in awesomeness (Speaking of Franky, he needs to have more lines, he is seeming like a background character. Hopefully that will change once some fights get going.)

The Thriller***** sounds interesting, and the monster/animal with it seems like its gonna play an imporatant role.
The one thing that was sort of bothering me was Robin. She didn't seem to care at all what was going on, and didnt really show any emotion at all. In fact in page six she looked bored. The only time she showed emotion was when he mentioned that he has no shadow.
Coming from West Blue she could probably tell more about the island and its history. -

This is not a hentai artist. Subtle hints to find his site; you have his name on the fanart. Now if only we had advanced technologies at our disposure allowing us to search and find any sites by typing a few words… You know... Like an engine... An engine that would let you search. Alas mankind hasn't reached that level of technicity yet.

Now that I look at it, Thriller park isn't ontop of a sea king it is inside one. The Mouth is in front of the ship and behind it is the Island. There are chains going from the sides of the mouth to some type of tower up in the mist.
Either that or the gates are just shaped like teeth and they surround the island… which now that I say it seems more likely.

This is, of course, hypothesizing that the island randomly materializes, rather than just floating around. I suppose they could have just as well floated through the gate without realizing it.

I think I may be about to eat my words about Brooke. Him being a musician was true and Luffy seems adamant about him joining. Usually when he is, he ends up getting the person as a crew member. If this is a mini story(inbetweem the merman island one), then he may be the new crewmember. Still alittle unsure though, that was pretty quick.
then again, in the early days of OP, there was a new addition to the crew EVERY new story arc. Maybe things are going back to that kind of pacing?

I can't believe how quickly the fans have fallen for Brooke, but I must say he has been an outstanding character since we met him. I like his casual use of English words. Yelling for Dinner was hillarious. Still, there seems to be something odd about Brooke, and not just that he's a skeleton with an afro. I guess we'll be learning more about who he really is in the chapters to come.
I kind of like how Luffy is the only crew member that has expressed the desire for a musician, and he's been the only one to have any real interest in Brooke. It almost seems like Brooke joining is a certainty now. I wonder what Oda is gonna pull with this one…
I hope the SBS letters start pouring in asking what exactly Thrillerbark means, though the Thriller part has got to be inspired by MJ. Maybe the name was just a typo. Wouldn't be the first time.

When they opened the barrel they were targetted and had a little ghost man sneak on to the ship. Observative people saw him last week on the 1000 sunny.
The ghost has been spying on them for thrillerberg, which tracked them down and trapped them by use of a mechanical mouth. If you look carefully at thrillerberg, it has lots of castle aspects and mechanical aspects. That's not a ferris wheel in the background, it's a gear with a chain. The mouth gate is powered by gears and chains as well. The mechanical mouth trapping them in was the cause for the vibrations that they heard at the end of the chapter.
Unfortunately, Thrillerberg seems to have much more in common with castlevania than with michael jackson music videos.
Summary: there is no theme park, giant whale or sea creature. All we have is a mobile mechanical island with a castle on top.
Also, for pete's sake, Blackbeard's power has nothing to do with shadows! Blackholes can not create shadows, absorb shadows or use shadows because light never reflects off of them. And why would Blackbeard be on a mobile island from west blue? Let blackbeard be his megalomaniac self and wait until the end of this arc to see him again.

Light is absorbed by a Black Hole, not reflected. The high gravity of a blackhole ensures nothing escapes it.
You're right about them not able to create shadows, because they absorb all available light around them. You can't have a shadow without light AND dark. But in any case, his power is gravity.

i think i know what brooke's fighting style might end up being. what if he fights with his shadow? kinda like shikamaru except that it can punch and kick people. since brooke is just bones then he really needs to avoid any damage and having his shadow do the fighting will help him out. or maybe he fights with his shadow and uses musical intruments to distract the enemy's or perhaps uses musical instruments as weapons as well. if he does fight with his shadow then that would make his fighting style unique and not really similar to the other strawhats.

You guys are underestimating Brookes devil fruit abilties. I mean as if he a devil fruit would have such a crap power like im allowed to be alive again. You gotta remember that according to the manga no Devil Fruit has crap powers, even the ones that sound really crap and seem like they dont do anything. For example the yami yami no mi or gravity fruit sounded really lame at first but then you find out it has awesome powers. Brooke still has tricks up his sleeve that his Devil Fruit can do.
