Yeah. Somehow I broke the preinstalled speech feature on my computer (Windows XP). Is there any way to fix it?
Reinstalling speech
-
-
Have you tried to uninstall it and then re-install?
-
Not exactly sure how…
As in, I dunno if it's on any specified disk, and I really don't want to reinstall everything.
-
Yeah can't reinstall everything it'll wipe the computer almost as much as a reformat(but different).
Which "speech" feature are we talking about exactly?
-
Like in the control panel, there's this icon that says "speech" that I messed up (don't remember how, it was awhile back).
-
Ok it's text to speech.
You can find free ones online that probably work much better.
Otherwise you'll need to reinstall and wipe everythng on your computer.
Or better yet ther'es some nice voice changing programs.
-
Well, Actually, I wanted speech to text, if just for the ease of tweaking my microphone settings.
-
THe speech thing is only text to speech not speech to text. GOogle something else that has more voices for text to speech and speech to text abilities.
-
Once I accidentally deleted my entire sound system trying to delete codecs. I have Windows XP too, and I found out I could use a program called System Restore. It sent my computer back to a previous date and I had my sound back.
Mine's accessible from Programs, then to Accessories, to System Tools, then there it is at the bottom. At least for mine it is.
Maybe that'd work for you?
-
The problem is I kinda…. forget how far back I messed it up. And I think the last Restore Point I created was after speech was broken.
GearSecond, it's where you adjust your microphone. I am 100% sure it was there, along with the text to speech. Just on two different tabs.
It's alright if there's no way to fix it, that's fine.
-
That's not what mine had, that's for sure. There was the microphone imput there too.
-
Well that is what mine looks like.
What version of Widnows are you running?
I have WIdnows XP home edition.
-
Yea, I've got home edition too. I haven't got a clue why they'd look different.
-
I'm running service pack 2, and it works fine. But it's only text to speech.
You sure you are looking at the right tab? You might have another place for what you are looking for(volume or microphone options) that isn't broken.
-
I am positive. I think I tried installing something and that messed up. I was able to access the text-to-speech tab before but not use the microphone function (the microphone works, but I can't tweak the sensitivity) and now I can't even access speech at all.
-
Well then you'd better find a magical pinata or something.
Or get a bittorrent file that and download a similar program.
