Y'now what I just realized? I've been posting alot in the Help Forums. Am I mooching off you guys?

Anyway, I downloaded PCSX2 and after hours of unscrewing my PS2 and extracting the BIOS (And then stumbling across one online almost immediatley after and threw a tantrum), I've finally discovered how to play PS2 games on my computer.

However, Kingdom Hearts 2 runs at 10 FPS.

URUSEN!!! So, I was thinking of maybe heading up to the store and buying some RAM to increase my FPS. Remember, this is a PS2 game, and probably requires about 30-50 FPS miniumum to play.

However, not only do I know if RAM actually increases FPS, I also have never bought any.

So, I ask you this: "How do I buy RAM?"

Are there more than one kind? Do I need a specific thing for it? Do I just stick it in the screen or what? How do I buy it? What's a good model? Is it compatible with my system?

I'm clueless here, and I didn't just spend my entire fucking Saturday trying to get a Disney game onto my Hard Drive to not play it.

Might not entirely be your ram. It's either your RAM or your Graphics Card.

        Or your Graphic Card's RAM.

Can you lis tthe amount of RAM in your computer as well as your Graphic Card and how much RAM your graphics card has?

When you hear the world 'Shared' it's usually code-word for 'sucky' in graphics cards.

To confirm this, right click on desktop, "properties", "settings" and you'll see something like "Plug and Play Monitor on nVidia Geforce 6100" under the screen picture. Tell us what it says.

                even better

go into the start menu click run and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes)

then the main tab will tell how much RAM and the display TAB will tell all about your video card

Check that. Does anyone know how how I can increase my FPS? To put it simply, it's terrible, and I don't want to buy an entirely new Laptop.

Laptops are not generally meant for gaming, and they're a bitch to upgrade, too. If you have a desktop, try playing the game on that and see if it plays any better.

Well there's your problem. Laptops don't have the power needed to play real games. Gaming laptops are expensive and basically just really powerful laptops which amonuts to a really expensive small portable normal style desktop with a fancy graphics card.

Use a desktop and stop making the gaming gods cry!

please don't listen to this because its flawed wrong and just wrong
its entirly possible to play any of the current software on a laptop.

the problem comes from the fact that your emulating PS2 games, noone out there can pull decent FPS with these games (well anything above 25 is almost unheard of), because the PS2 works with the graphics differently than the PC's it takes a shit lot longer to do anything with it

RAM upgrade should increase FPS (because it makes it so the computer can process the data faster), but the overall problem here isn't mainly your system its what your trying to run.

Not my fault he has a pretty sucky emulator.

Spring for a real PS2, they cost as much as a DS now, aorund $130 bucks. Pay for the game sif you like them and support the developers.

But still, if he's runnin git on a laptop that wll contribute. A good emulator on a really nice computer might be able to pull it off.

might is the key word, its not the emulator its whats being emulated trust me I've tried on my desktop it doesn't work with PS2 games, people have just almost put the finishing touches on a Gamecube emulator because of the difference from a computer

Well look, I udnerstand emulators. I get what they do and how they do it. But the thing is they aren't perfect. Might is as close as I can come without being a liar. a PS2 is probably too new to be properly emulated, no just because of computer speeds but because of hardware and where we are in comparison. I've seen some really good almost perfect NES emulators, but it's obvious that this PS2 emulator isn't working, and probably won't do any better.

Private Zulen, I recommend at this point saving for a PS3, or if you can't/don't want to save that much or for that long, and wait for availability, then I recommend grabbing a PS2, it'll start to die in 5 years, and then you can get a PS4 probably. If you want to play Kingdom Hearts that bad, buy a used copy and use a friend's PS2.

well I don't know as much about PC's as these 2, but I can tell you, labtops arn't typical for playing games like this. It's like baking a cake in the microwave. Yes it can be done, but it's better and easier if you just use the oven.

Is your computer very old? if it is, your RAM might be outdated, and not easy to find. I believe, the RAM plugs into your motherboard, so you have to have RAM that matches your motherboard. You can always take your RAM out, and show the guys at the store what you have. That's what I do with my ink cartriges.

I'd go with the option of buying a used PS2. I bet with a bit of searching, you could find one cheeper than $130 I'm poor too. I got a GC real cheep recently. $60 CN

Gamecubes are going for 90 and PS2's at 130 along with the intendo DS here in the US, a used PS2 will sell for likely 90-100 or aroudn that range, but you'll probably be ripped off if you pay more than 100 for a used PS2.

THere's some major issues here though.

                                  Using a Laptop
Lack of RAm/good graphics card(unless you have a gaming laptop, even then the RAM issue might be there)
Running an emulator isn't perfect, emulators are only now being perfected for NES games, which many are platformers and crucial elements were messed up like timing jumps, and are now sometimes ok.

Buy a PS2, save us the ehadache and support SOny and it's devs if you want to play their games.

Well, there's no point in playing a PS2 emulator on a desktop, because I generally enjoy Laptops because I'm on the move, and by that I mean I'm bored and don't have consoles, T.V's, or outlets in the vicinity.

I have what can be considered a rather decent PC. Not cutting edge, but more than acceptable. There is, to be quite fair, very little it cannot play. And even with this machine, I cannot exceed 20fps on Final Fantasy X under emulation. PS2 emulation is hard.

Having more power helps, having more ram helps, having a better graphics card helps, but there is simply no way you're going to be able to run something as demanding as Kingdom Hearts 2 under emulation any time soon, I'm sorry to say. Even if you did somehow manage to get it running at a decent fps… well, say hello to graphical glitch city...

If you're on the move and need to game, a DS or PSP is probably your best answer!

Uou won't get past about 25 frames per second, whic sucks considering the eyes sees about 65 or so frames per second. It won't work.
