well the spoiler made this fight way different but i agree with some,ace was pawned easily.BB didn't sweat or bleed and ace took 2 punches and one hit in the neck
Maybe I'm looking at something different, but on page 7, left side, when he gets IMPAILED by the 2 spears I'm seeing blood. And "white eyes". I don't think that its "Darkness" ebbing from him, every drawing of the darkness has a shadow / particle effect to it.
Also, I've read the 2 translations for the last panel and I'm still confused, they conflicted a little. I don't think Ace "lost" or got "pwned", and even Van Auger's comments were a bit… defeatist. Did Ace get messed up? I don't know. His hat is on the ground. That means nothing. It was on the ground 1/2 through this week's chapter.

After seeing the chapter, I guess Blackbeard wasn't too powerfull, at least he can be injured.
Ending a chapter with a character's iconic piece of clothing laying upside down in the dirt is usually a literary device indicating that character is dead, defeated, or otherwise in bad shape.
Blackbeard power makes a gravitational force that affects the waves of the devil fruits, thanks to this gravity the waves are sucked to him and the user loses the ability in contact with Blackbeard.
How Luffy will win?
Simple, in Gear 2 he is faster than Blackbeard and when the power is nulified the arm or leg will return to Luffy allowing him to attack in the distance.

What's the purpose of the final statement about the outcome of the battle at the end of the chapter if a winner wasn't decided. It's obvious, BB won the fight. What's left to our imagination is if Ace survived or not.

For all of you who keep using that arm-wrestling crap as proof that Ace isn't stronger than Luffy, you do all realize that that was just filler in the anime right? Meaning it never took place in the manga, thus not making it canon, making it completely irelevant.
In canon it's probable that Ace is still stronger than Luffy, and considering how ridiciously strong BB seems to be the fact that Ace took two shots to the gut and neck show how strong Ace is. Although I'm still confused about what happen to that cross attack like everyone seems to be….. what the heck happened there?!?!
Seriously though, I think I see another job-match between Luffy and BB (if they fight), like Luffy vs. Eneru cause there is no possible, sensible way for Luffy to defeat BB without it making absolutely no sense or him going into Gear 4.
And I'm hoping that paper is like a transporting device that allows Ace to teleport from place to place.

Can Luffy even use the Gears against BB? Those techniques rely on his rubber powers after all, Lucci said that only his rubber organs could withstand the pressure of Gear 2. Also, Luffy's ability to take a punch is greatly enhanced by being rubber. He'll be at a disadvantage without his powers despite his admittedly monsterous strength.
Maybe using Gear 2 he can be fast enough to get some good hits in so that BB can't touch him and take his powers away.
Wait, if BB touched Luffy while he is in Gear 2…...would he explode?

I figured I would stop lurking and actually post here. To clear up a few questions about the chapter:
1. Blackbeard cannot avoid attacks like other Logia-types can. In exchange for having to take in just as much or even more pain/damage as a normal human would he can pull in his opponents and neutralize their powers by grabbing them.
2. The name of the island is Banaro (the spoiler script had the letters flipped in the title).

There were two punches. Which I will pull out soon (or later). Either way, it's clear that Blackbeard has ridiculously powerful raw strength. Ace probably has a lot of endurance, but I think it's apparent that Blackbeard's strength was too strong.

Ace gets punched in the gut on page 11 which sends him flying into rubble
(here its not clear if he is sent flying by the initial gut punch or by another follow up hit)
Ace gets hammered in the neck on page 14 which sends him flying into rubble again
(and again its not clear if there was another punch after the neck hit because you would think Ace would be eating dirt at BB's feet considering the direction of that punch)

As for the Cross attack, there were actually free and final one BB just took hence the laugh it would appear that due to Asce getting more tired and thus weaker the attack isn't as strong creating an opening upon the mass devastation for dialogue. it appears Asce used it in order to repel himself back from BB as a kind of reverse vacuum type manoeuvre.
Ì think that BB's power is alot like the sea, with Luffy he would just be unable to willingly stretch, so he would be alot more like a normal person. So he would still be able to take hits and the like, and use Gear 2 and 3. If he cant, then i dont see how he would be able to really do much to fight BB…..........But i spose Oda will do it some other way, if he has to
From the panels it looks like BB gets hurt quite badly by ace when hit, I dont really think he is over powered at all…if somebody with massive physical strength can hit him, I think he can be defeated...

Listen up people. There is alot of lies and misconceptions running around here and I will do my best to correct them.
1. Blackbeard IS IN FACT A LOGIA.
-A- He can create and control shadow as well A BECOME IT. however
-B- The nature of darkness is the devouring gravity. It unlike other logias by its nature CANNOT let attacks pass through without harm. It nature is to capture and consume thus the attacks can be absorbed but by absorbing the attacks the user suffers them. THUS
-C- Blackbeard can stop himself from burning by absorbing the fires on him, or perhaps absorb an attack as it comes in LIMITING its damage but he cannot let it pass harmlessly through.
2. Blackbeards relatively undamaged state comes from his DURABILTY. He is a tough mofo without any of the powers he has. "I can take more pain than a normal person" he says.
3. THERE IS NO RETURNING ATTACK 2X, THAT IS A FAKED SCRIPT LIE!!!
4. Blackbeards power is not Light phobic. If it where his arm couldn't become shadow like it does. Crocodile couldn't transform while wet. Blackbear can transform when in the presence of a gigantic mini sun. Look at his hand. Whatever its weakness its NOT LIGHT PERIOD! NO white holes, no particle fountains no light light fruits. Gomu gomu no DAME!
5. Blackbeards powers means that he can always suck in the real person and then once he holds them he supresses their devils fruit powers, perhaps other powers, but not their strength. So he is only half of sea stone, and probably has other benefits against non-users.

Amazing chapter. I don't want to think about whether Ace has died or will get captured or any of that nonsense. I'll let Oda deal with that.
But, you know, now that Blackbeard's Darkness Devil Fruit has been somewhat explained, I still think that a select few (The Four Emporers, Aio Kiji, Dragon (if he has that Wind Logia)) can take him. Now, I'm not saying that it wouldn't be a cakewalk for them against Blackbeard, only that Blackbeard doesn't even come close to the level of God-like villians (read: Aizen in Bleach, or the Father in FMA) that I read.
However, I'd pay really good money for a Garp v. Blackbeard battle. That would be really interesting.
Edit: Wait a sec, Pipboy. So are you saying that, for example, whenever Blackbeard got hit by that Flame Spear, it also hurt Ace as well?

I think it would be cool if Blackbeard turned up at WG Headquarters wearing Ace's hat, or caught up with Luffy while wearing it.
does blackbeard really have to catch his opponents to be able to hit them? can't he just punch them and it will have the same effect? when blackbeard hits ace in the neck he doesn't catch him he just hits him. maybe blackbeard just has to catch you once and then he can shut off you're powers when he hits you or something. we also have to remember that blackbeard hasn't had these powers for a very long time so he will probably get a whole lot better as time goes on. he will probably see him at his true form when he fights whitebeard.

I think Pipboy was saying that BB takes damage whenever he absorbs an attack.
Man, Ace got rocked. Ace is either dead, or will be captured. Kinda tough to guess what will be, but I see him going to Impel Down, and maybe, Croc and him will meet and make a plot to escape. Either way, a war is coming, and its going to be hell, I cant wait.
