He can take attacks, because if it wern't for that BB would be hella broke. And like WHITEBEARD said, it's the property of his fruit that stops other fruits from working, that probably stops him from going completely logia.

Now I get what you're saying. Because he is darkness, the constant light around him prevents him from letting objects pass through him and from turning into his elemental form. However he still can do everything else that logias usually do. Thanks, Lawliet I underestand now.
So one more question, assuming by some odd chance it's pitch black, could BB become his elemental for then?

I definately see what your saying and right now to me it seems like a 50/50. It's just the translation has me really pondering. I know translating from Japanese to English will not always be perfect and I guess we will probaly need more translations to verify. However this part of the passage:
I can’t just let attacks go by like you all.
If he didn't have the option of transforming completely shouldn't be stated more like:
I can't let attacks go by
the just in the quote sort of changes the meaning. Again this is just based on the translation so what Im saying holds no water. I see both outcomes really possible but I'm leaning towards that he can turn into his logia.
On a sidenote if I sounded like i was bashing the translator by no means was that my intention. In fact thanks alot for the translation!

I figured I would stop lurking and actually post here. To clear up a few questions about the chapter:
1. Blackbeard cannot avoid attacks like other Logia-types can. In exchange for having to take in just as much or even more pain/damage as a normal human would he can pull in his opponents and neutralize their powers by grabbing them.
2. The name of the island is Banaro (the spoiler script had the letters flipped in the title).

lots of confusing ideas out there. to sum up from the chapter and the translations, correct me if im wrong;
Blackbeard's Darkness logia:
1. He can suck in any object that his power touches and spit them out at his own will.
2. Unlike normal Logia power, BB cannot avoide attacks by changing himself into Darkness element.
3. The trade off to this is that what ever he touches (or gets attacked by) becomes "part" of his darkness and thus he has the ability to "pull" the rest of that matter into/towards him which in this case is Ace's body (since he has absorbed "parts" of Ace already).
4. Like the Sea Stone, BB's power allows him to neutralize any DF user's ability completely just through touching.

It's a countermeasure these characters use to avoid their natural weakness. Unfortunately, when Crocodile got completely surrounded by water, he succombed to his weakness. likewise these guys are theorized that b/c it's daylight (sunlight), BB cannot become his element even though he can suck up even light.The wording of "just can't let attacks go by" is somewhat ambiguous. It's actually be nice if he couldn't become his element at all for whatever reasons, b/c then he'd have an obvious weakness, but when you consider that he added a clause to his statement. It gives the impression that he's deliberately getting hit to absorb the attack and use it to his advantage. He's taking that risk as he said.

I still have to wonder if Blackbeard is hurt by things he's trying to suck up. I somehow doubt it since the houses didn't splinter him or whatever. If so, that can be a good way to make up for the inability to "transform" into darkness.
At any rate, an awesome chapter. Blackbeard's fruit is probably one of the coolest so far; I like the thought put behind it. Blackbeard was just… awesome throughout the chapter.

No, a White Hole is the opposite of a Black hole. Instead of attracting matter, it repels matter. If a Blackhole has an entrance and an exit, that's a wormhole. But wormholes have not been found yet.

Partially. I said that it was because light's around everywhere. But I guess that was disproven if the reason why he can't transform is because for some reason his logia does not follow the same principles of other logias and some reason gives off some other advantage. Unless that wasn't the explanation. Then your idea or my idea could be right.

I'd say One Piece just moved up in the shonen power scale after reading this chapter. BB sucking in an entire town is easily the most immpresive feat in OP since Enel sank an island. Now, if BB can suck in a town now, by the time he faces Luffy, he may be able to suck in an entire city.
One can only imagine what Oda will come up with next.

maybe Blackbeard isn't too hurt by the lance attack in the first place….... but the attack only causes pain.........

Either he didn't take the attack or it wasn't very powerful and was meant as a distraction by Ace so he could follow-up with a more powerful attack. But why Ace was so tired after that attack?

well the spoiler made this fight way different but i agree with some,ace was pawned easily.BB didn't sweat or bleed and ace took 2 punches and one hit in the neck
ace never impressed me much since he couldn't beat luffy in an arm wrestle and kinda depended way too much on his fruit
but after seeing BB i think it is best for smoker to return to loguetown
well BB though can cancel the DF power he can't weaken a DF user like sea stone so luffy after an arc or two will kick his ass
and i can't picture aokiji vs BB,BB could get frozen like he got burned but then he absorbed the flames,can anyone picture this fight in his mind????
