A friend sent me a link to this, I thought it was fun. You can vote for your seven picks if you want, or you can just browse around and take a look at them. The Kremlin looks like it's made of candy. XD
New Seven Wonders of the World
-
-
Ooh, very interesting (though the Kremlin doesn't look like candy to me…). Hopefully the Easter Island statues will be among the seven. ^o^
-
@Solar:

How about now?
-
Is this just on that website or of actual importance?
Either way, as a New Yorker, I cant not vote for the Statue of Liberty. Machu Picchu is just a marvel of architecture considering the tools available to the incas and the sheer precision of their cuts, so that gets my vote, too.
-
Heh, that's what I get for only looking at the page on the site. Looks… yummy.
-
I'm telling you, it's like a giant candy palace.
Man, I was reading up on the Ancient Wonders of the World, since I knew only the Pyramids of Giza were still around anymore– was curious as to what happened to them. It's really depressing. The Collossus of Rhodes I knew had collapsed after an earthquake, but I didn't know it was sold to a travelling merchant who had it broken down to scrap so he could transport it to Syria. The temple of Artemis was destoryed by various invaders, The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was ordered destroyed because it was a shrine to pagan gods.... it just seems like such a shame that we only know what they looked like from artist representations now, and who knows how accurate they even are? Makes me sad. Especially looking at the Acropolis, Stonehenge, the Colluseum, and other places that are obviously worse for wear.
AndI'm not absolutely certain, but I do believe that the places that get the most votes from this will be the new official Wonders of the World.
-
All I know is that Stonehenge and the Gret Wall deserve to be on there
-
I think the cathedral of Notre Dame would make a better choice than the Eiffel tower.
-
Yeah, I think I have to agree.
The Eiffel Tower seems a bit mundane compared to that beautiful architecture.
-
I would have liked to vote for that giant Buddha statue carved into a mountain in Afghanistan, but the Taliban blew it up.

Heheh, I said the same thing at KF forums. Yea, I don't really like that they're trying to replace the 7 wonders. It's like saying oh yea, the thinkers of the enlightenment are all dead, so we should replace them with Connan, Stewart, Colbert and Letterman.
Ok, so it's not exactly like that, but hopefully you get my point.
-
it'll probably be more like the real seven wonders and those other ones
-
I think it's more like… the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World don't exist anymore (except the pyramids), so what are some new ones that people can still appreciate and enjoy today? The old ones were basically established like tourist locations for the Mediterranian people of the age.
-
'WONDERS' is a difficult word, because in the past those old 7 were wonders due to a lack of scientific and architectural understanding. These says the pyramids are still a wonder…
But, is much else an actual wonder?
They should have Mount Rushmore on there. That's a wonder to me, at least, or perhaps a work of extreme multi-person masochism. Not sure if much else is a wonder anymore since it isn't hard to build wonders when you have built large machines that build wonders with ease.
-
I think the Today Show(?) was having a show about this MONTHS ago, I considered making a topic but never did. Really, can you beat Easter Island? XD
-
I wouldn't put E. Isle as a wonder. Hell, someone got the natives to make and stand one of those salt shakers in the 90's and had it all on film for the Hitlery channel. Wasn't very amazing. Kon Tiki dude proved ancient people could easily cruise the giant oceans without a lot of trouble except direction, so pooh to that.

My own personal list would be:
North America - The Empire State Building
Central America - The Panama Canal
South America - Machu Picchu
Europe - The Colosseum of Rome
Africa - The Great Pyramids
Asia - Angkor Wat
Asia - The Great Wall of ChinaOf the list here:
Chichen Itza
Machu Picchu
Colosseum
The Great Wall
Pyramids of Giza
Hagia Sophia
Taj Majal -
This list is actually a paired down version of what they started with. They had a lot of places like Mt. Rushmore, Empire State Building, and tons more, but the ones left now are the ones that got the most votes so far.
