      The L's Grave scene was amazing. Just as good as L's Death scene in the anime.

        The anime had a lot of great scenes, as well as "Epic" ones:

        1. The Epic Potato Chip Eating
        2. Light's Epic Laugh.
        3. L's Epic freakout when Shinigami are mentioned
        4. Epic Tennis
        5. Epic Hugging of Misa

        Intentional or not, they gave them this big dramatic effect.

        The Death Note Anime was well done, though, for what it's worth. I haven't seen Part II yet, but Part I is good.

        I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

          Mello's voice was a lot deeper than I expected.

            I could never get into the anime because of all the "epic". It was just too silly and over-the-top for me, specially the music with all the damn vocals. Stuff like that made it impossible for me to take what was going on seriously. The mundane atmosphere of the manga worked much better for me.

              @Cyringohn:

              Near had a very large fanbase, especially when it was obvious that he'd end up defeating Light with all his magical voodoo guessing-on-a-hunch mojo. A lot of the female L fans flocked to Near with their OH GOSH I LOVE NEAR CUZ HE'LL AVENGE L-SAMA'S DEATH I'M SO WET FOR L

              The only thing I liked about the oneshot was the flashback involving Near and L. It was really neat, and made perfect sense, that L chose Near and Mello because they sat in the back of the room with little "Hmph…" looks in their eyes, as if they had something to prove.

              I also liked how it helped to explain that L, Near, and Mello are more interested in winning and achieving their own selfish desires, as opposed to being some kind of force of justice in the world.

              I liked this very much too, but then I got to thinking of this:

              http://www.onemanga.com/Death_Note/2/28/

              L calls himself justice, but in the oneshot reveals that he only solves mysteries as a hobby and to entertain himself. The whole justice thing sounded cool and all, but lost its impact when the oneshot came out. Maybe the writer forgot about this.

                yeah except Near's main appeal is that he looks and acts like a little autistic kid

                now he looks like an autistic adult, talk about gross

                No way. Near was an annoying little snot in regular DN. Now he's an annoying sexy snot. Way different. Just ask fangirls.

                  @Fire Fist:

                  That's weird, because the second guy Light Kills, the motorcycle guy, Light writes his name about 6 times until he gets it right because he didn't know how to spell it .

                  One of the first four spellings were obviously correct then. They did say that once a person's name appears in the note, it's impossible to avoid that person's death. (Come to think of that, why couldn't Light write down his own name in the notebook, set the time to some time in 60 years, and write "Old age" as the reason? Sure, it would have been stupid as hell, but still, that would have been funny.)

                    There was a time limit to how far in the future you could set the time of death. I might be wrong, but I think it was 23 days.

                      Actually, there's an addendum to that. If the cause was illness, it could extend beyond the 23 day period. BUT, it couldn't extend beyond that person's natural life span or they'd just die of a heart attack. And Light couldn't do that anyway because I'm pretty sure there was a rule stated somewhere that the owner of the Death Note can't kill himself by writing his own name in his Death Note.

                      I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

                        Yeah, you can never extend your life with the Death Note. Ryuk notes that when he talks about how Shinigami can, yet humans cannot.

                        When you die, you die. Humans are born with a set-in-stone time of death [murdered, natural death, etc.], and the only thing that ever deviates from that time is if their name is written in a Death Note.

                        @Natty:

                        Well, despite what was said in the one shot, I really doubt that L didn't feel some sense of justice for punishing criminals. If he didn't, he wouldn't even really be solving crimes in the first place. He'd be pulling a Near and just solving really complex riddles or jigsaw puzzles or some shit.

                          I have a question.
                          Talking about the special chapter with some friends, they talked me and linked me this one too.

                          http://lapace.exteen.com/20080207/death-note-l-file-no-15-manga-translation-obata-sensei-s-tha
                          The site is in Thai language.
                          I usually don't read and don't like fanfics or similar, so I was wondering: is this weird chapter with kid L real? (the drawings seem Obata's ones) :blink:

                          Or is it a fanfic?

                            I remember this being advertised in SJ, but I didn't know what it was. Well, it seems like it's really done by Obata, although it's strange that some parts are colored and the rest is black and white. Could be a fancoloring, but it looks just like the way Obata does it.
