Death Note Manga Discussion

@Daisuke:
That was a good one shot honestly, though whoever's the so called next "Kira", by looking at his desk, he seems like some otaku for some reason, with all those figures…
I think the author did this as a message to all the DN fans who were like, "If I was Kira, I'd kill so and so and so and so." and just told them that, "Hey, guess what, you didn't get the point of the story and you're all douches…k bye."
I was hoping that, when they had Near's flashback, we'd get to see more of Mat, though.
-
Was that guy in the one panel in chains with all the apples below him supposed to be the Shinigami King?
-
Maybe, but in the "How to Read" official databook, the author states that "The King's appearance is too evil for humans to see", so he's contradicting himself if that's the King.
-
I haven't looked at the RAW yet, but someone better get around to scanslating it eventually.
-
There's translations out for it already, if that's good enough for you.
-
! I was just watching the anime and the moment that Light gives up the Death Note his face changes and his face looks extremely similar to the main character of the series pilot manga.
-
I thought this one shot was very uninspired, to say the least. Milking the cow having Near and Matsuda as protagonists isn't an easy task.
-
Binktopia / Mangashare released the one shot
-
So I guess the huge thing with claws was in fact the King.
Huh.
-
The king traded a death note for some apples.
He's not easy to trick, huh?
-
He wasn't tricked, he just agreed to that deal.
-
Yeah, even though we knew that death gods are crazy about apples (or bananas or whatever), with Rem previously telling us how hard it would be to get a second Death Note from the king, it semms kind of cheap to me that he's now opened a trading market for fruit.
But you're right, wasn't really a trick.
Still, I had been interested to see the king, and I'm not disappointed. He looks just as great as the other death gods. -
All shinigami are lazy and just don't give a fuck, so it's not a surprise that the King can just be bribed with apples.
-
I remember beginning to read this a long time ago and there was a part about a couple of kids who found it.
Basically some people died and they figured out that if you erase the name they come back to life. Was that a prelude to this series?
-
Death Note: Zombie Invasion?
-
I want Kira to come back as a Death God
If your soul can neither go to Heaven nor Hell, where does it go?
It goes to the Shinigami World.. and you become a Death God
That's the sequel they could pull off if they really wanted to. And you know people would buy it.
-

It was an original one-shot. And yeah Ryuk gives the kid a Death Eraser, as long as the body is fine, not burned, disfigured or anything the person whose name was written in the Death Note would instantly come back to life. I'm glad it was removed because Death Note would not be as interesting.
-
Meh. This was okay. I woulda preferred the Zombie L arc.
-
OMG
Have you guys seen the directors cut of the end?
! so don't watch if you haven't finished the series
! srVMm8RA5rY
! It contains more nutty Light. Infact, perhaps the MOST nutty Light.
! And does anyone know where to find the "special" episode 38? "Death Note Rewrite: The Visualizing God"
! > A special 2 hour episode of Death Note, mainly a compilation of the confrontations between Light & L, re-edited from Ryuk's perspective with new dialogue and soundtrack along with additional animation that could not be included in the original series. -
Episode 38 IS the director's cut.
-
Well it said that episode 38 was two hours long. So I suppose that that was just a segment..
Too bad it's not subbed, or anywhere to be found
or is it?
-

Hey guess what?
Ryuk already said that all humans to go Nothingness when they die. Get over it, Death Note's writer is an atheist.

Yea, I know..
But I mean like a "what if" storyline. As in some sort of non cannon spin off special.
-
Fan fics aren't good.
Although there was that one fan-ending where he wakes up in the Shinigami Realm as a human and it's like "you'll die for every person you killed, and they you'll stop existing" and then he goes to the Shinigami King to trade his life for fixing the Shinigami world and Ryuk is like, "HE'S THE GREATEST HUMAN EVER!"

He said they go to Nu, specifically. Wasn't there a shinigami named Nu that was just under the Shinigami King (And yes, I know that Nu means Nothingness, too)?
-
I was thinking more of a…
Ryuku was lying or Nu = The Shinigami World
Instant OVA -
@Lobster:

Instant OVAHe wasn't lying: it specifically says it in the Death Note in the final Chapter.
-
The whole point is that there's no such thing as an afterlife. When you die, that's it.
Right before his death, Light finally realized how much that fucking sucks.
-
There was something somewhere I read that says that you only go to Nu if you used the Death Note, but I couldn't find any further evidence for that.
-
Nope, read right here:
http://www.onemanga.com/Death_Note/107/18-19/Here's something that bugs me. Somewhere (Can't remember where), it specifically states that writing your own name in the Death Note doesn't do anything. It's not recommended, but it does nothing. Yet in the one-shot, the new Kira kills himself by writing his name in the Death Note. Plot hole?
-
Can somebody link me to the one-shot?
-
That was honestly really boring and pointless.
It was basically there for Near porn.
-
yeah except Near's main appeal is that he looks and acts like a little autistic kid
now he looks like an autistic adult, talk about gross
-

You probably got confused with the fact that if someone intentionally writes someone (or himself)'s name wrong for 4 times, the writer will die. I think Light or someone thought of the option to write his name for 4 times intentionally so that Death Note won't work any more, but was told otherwise.
I read the one shot, but quite disappointed with it. I actually started to translate it for 10 pages or so, and thought it doesn't worth it. Unlike the main story, which got me so into it, the one shot was… meh. Maybe some random guy can write it as a doujin.

I bet some girls droooooled over him. ... -
Near had a very large fanbase, especially when it was obvious that he'd end up defeating Light with all his magical voodoo guessing-on-a-hunch mojo. A lot of the female L fans flocked to Near with their OH GOSH I LOVE NEAR CUZ HE'LL AVENGE L-SAMA'S DEATH I'M SO WET FOR L
The only thing I liked about the oneshot was the flashback involving Near and L. It was really neat, and made perfect sense, that L chose Near and Mello because they sat in the back of the room with little "Hmph…" looks in their eyes, as if they had something to prove.
I also liked how it helped to explain that L, Near, and Mello are more interested in winning and achieving their own selfish desires, as opposed to being some kind of force of justice in the world.
-
Yeah. The oneshot turned out pretty disappointing. I did like that L pointed out that he was just solving crimes to entertain himself though.

That's weird, because the second guy Light Kills, the motorcycle guy, Light writes his name about 6 times until he gets it right because he didn't know how to spell it .
Maybe it was on the anime, and not canon, but I distinctly remember a rule where the owner of the death note can write his name in the death note with no penalty.
-
Does Mello have alot of fans?
I just wanted him to die the entire time, along with Near.
-
You can write anybody's name as many times as you want, because, yeah, Light writes that biker guy's name about 904093430 times before guessing the correct kanji.
-
Hey I am watching the death note anime and I want to be spoiled, does my man Ryuzaki beat Light does he outwit him???
-
No, L gets killed.
Concerning the one-shot, I have to agree with the explination for Near and Mello being chosen along with L's motives being great. And now I'm waiting for WWLD shirts.
-

! L Lawliet is killed by Rem after Light puts her in a situation that forces her to do so in order to save Misa's life.

WTF?? The blond chicks Shinigami killed my boy Ryuzaki (thumbs down)? Just to save raggedy Misa? How do you kill off a character that was so great? Not too mention the way L killed him was weak…Damn Ryuzaki was the deal, does he ever comes back or anything???
-
Yeah yo man my boy L tight yo nah dog he don't come back but there's these two kids that are his successor's man.
Seriously though, just go finish the series yourself and stop asking questions.

! Only in that TV special, six feet underground with Light cackling over and humping his grave like a crazy son-of-a-bitch, the last episode as a vision, and that other special which basically retells the latter part of the L arc through Ryuk's POV.

Thanks for the input. I hope these two kids got the same wit and swagger Ryukzaki had…But you know what they say about sequels....

Humping Ryuzaki's grave? Light has no respect, that damn geek. I am not surprised he would do something like that, as the series goes on I can already see Light transforming into a sadistic nerd-ragging panicky spoiled bastard.
-
The one-shot has some good ideas, but it really fell short on a lot of them. How L picked Mello and Near as his successors was pretty cool, so was Near finally cementing the fact that he is L's equal.
-

1. He wasn't literally humping his grave.
2. Being extremely intelligent doesn't make you a geek. While I agree that L was a great character, he wasn't without his eccentricities that Light lacked.
That said, Light actually develops a God Complex in Part 2, really. It's the only thing that rationalizes his freak out at the end.
