Do I spot "Yamaguchi Kappei" in those images?

That is freaky that he died. Of a stroke of all things.
RIP

Do I spot "Yamaguchi Kappei" in those images?
yeah he voices L…..
I still think its a bad choice since L is well calm, and kappei's other characters seem to be hyper/obnoxious(inu yasha, usopp, and monta), but hopefully he will do a great job
-
Hmmm, creator is arrested, movie director is dead…
Why do I have a feeling that Kira is real? Though, Obata would be dead if he/she was.
-
Well, the creator's not dead by any means. Just arrested. Kira would've just killed him off if there was a problem.

Well, While L is more of the calm type, I think Kappei should be able to pull it off.
-
Light's VA also does Tamaki from Ouran Host Club.

This is from How to Read 13. Can anyone make out L's full name?
-
ocean says his name is something along the lines of "Elle Lawright".
…
M-M-Major fail!
-
Isn't elle a female name?
-
Pronounced "elly" I suppose it would, but this entire matter is really both lame and ironic; I'm not sure if the DN accepts bad spelling/poor pronunciation, but apprently simply putting "L" would have been enough to kill the world's greatest detective. From a literary perspective this is an overused concept (that is, to have his name a pronunciation of his initial; see Homer "Jay" Simpson) but for DN's purposes it's not that bad I suppose.
…
I withdraw my "fail".
-
Most likely the DN would need exact ways of writing names. L Lowright is different from L. Lowright, both of which are ways of shortening or writing names in different ways. Most likely, You would require something like "Christopher" instead of Chris, or at least would see Christopher as the name using Shinigami eyes, unless you are named Chris as N is known as "Nate" instead of something like "Nathan" or "Nathaniel".
-
It's L Lawliet. Pronounced as eru rouraito. Ha ha ha.
I like the fact it can be prounounced somewhat similar to law right.
-
L Lawliet? hm… That's alright I guess. I guess they wanted to stick in Raito and L in the same name. HAHA.
Question: In scanlations, were the names that appeared, like Mihael Keehl and Nate River, were those put in by the Scanlators or were they already romanized like that?
Hey wait, hold on, how is raraito romanized as Lawliet? Or was it romanized in the How to read?

Crediting Kanon @ TOWNL.
-
Awesome. I assume that's the "True Name Card".
-
Well, that's interesting. I guess the pronounciation going with the Japanese kanji would be Law-Lie-it then.
-
L Lawliet.
Not too bad. nod nod -
So, we know what L stands for now. No last name?
エル = ローライトThe card is just stating the initial and his name. Notice the L bold like and the name italic like.
-
Curse you For fooling us all again Ohba and Obata!
-

Erm, that's what we use for English names, for some odd reason. We love to put = or ・ between first/last name. For example, Raye Penber was spelled as レイ=ペンバー.
-
But to have one letter as a name? Seems to be a bit odd.
M was for Mello. N was for Near. L just seems like it should be for Lawliet. -
I'll just wait to get my copy :D
-
Actually, more like, M was for Mello, or Mihael Keehl, N was for Near, or Nate River, and L was for L(R)yuuzaki, or L Lawliet.
-
Yea, that rung in my head as I headed out the door (kinda rushed that post) and was too lazy to walk 10 feet to change it.
Also, I thought a dot seperated first and last names, not an equal sign.Spoiler about the end for those following Viz….
! It has been revealed that the girl shown at the end of the series, it is NOT Misa, but just a follower. Just something I read from reading stuff on the How to Read 13. The volume explains A LOT
-
So you got it already, EGX?
-
O rly, what are its contents?
-
Yeah, what's in there?
Also what happened with the case with ohbta. Did he ever get free from getting arrested. Or is he rotting in a jail cell for something stupid?
edit: oh yeah when does the first movie come out on dvd?
-
I never said I have it…. (yet... should ship friday!)
-
Lawliet is pretty decent, but it would have been better as "Elle" instead of literally "L".
-
Looking it up, Elle is indeed a female name.
-
@yokaiforte:

I already watched the second episode and I think his voice suits L. x3
-
A bit odd that the woman in the final panel isn't Misa, since a close-up is given. Why bother giving a boom shot on an unknown follower? Ah well.
And a female name would suit L.
-
Not sure how A female name fits L. L isn't really female. And Mello and Near's real names appear to be the basis of their codenames. M, N. E is not for L.
-
On the fricking card it says L, not Elle, just L. L is for L.
-

L possesses the 'pretty boy' figure. Could see him with a feminine name, is all.
And yeah, Gohn knows. The actual letter "L" just seems a bit strange. Part of the suspense of the codenames was discovering the said character's actual name.
However, the one highly interesting point is that fact that L's name was present all along. Aside from the last name, L's true name was staring Light in the face. Quite an interesting take on the scenario.
-
Which is why Cyringohn said that he/she would have preferred it to be Elle, EvilGamer.

Yeah, almost like he was mocking him(or anyone who tried to figure out his identity), but there was still the matter of his last name, so he was still safe.
-

Haha, exactly.
But that explains why Misa said [or something like this]: "Wow, I'd never expect that!" when she first saw his name with the Shinigami Eyes.
-
It indeed does. If anything, I was kinda suspecting his name to be Light something something.
-

-Arms Behind Head- Expected it to just be a random name, since Near and Mello's name weren't all that unique. Looks like Gohn was incorrect.
Still feel bad for Misa. She probably only had about 10-15 years left to live, after halving her remaining years twice.
-
Well, you also have to account for the amount I believe… Gelus was his name... added to her years. I forget a bit, but when a Shinigami saves a person from certain death, don't their years get added to the person?
-

Yeah, meaning Gelus and Rem should both of added years to her life.
-
mm, yeah, that's about right.
-

His name was 'Zyeras', according to this scanlation.
Probably, yeah. But it probably cannot exceed the natural span of a human life. In either case, Misa still wouldn't have but 20 or so years to live.
-
Let's say a normal life span was around 80. That would mean that cutting the deal with Rem she'd have 40. Cutting it again, she'd live till 20. But it was after Misa made the deal with Ryuk to get the eyes that Rem made the deal.
However, I have no clue how long Rem had in years, so the number varies I suppose.
-

The Viz translation calls him Gelus.

Halfing the life works with remaining years, not the entire lifespan of the person. If Misa was going to love to be 80, and was 20 when she made the first deal, then she'd only have 30 years remaining, so she'd live to be 50. Taking the deal again would bring her life to a halt at 35.
-
The Viz translation calls him Gelus.
Probably better to go with Viz. This Chapter 27 still refers to Light as 'Raito'.
-
O yeah… thanks for the reminder.
She's about 17ish at the beginning right? so lessee, supposing she lives to be around 35ish, she still has those years from Rem.
-

Problem is that we have no idea when Misa's life is supposed to end. Only Rem knew, and she never told anybody else.
Can't remember her age, at the beginning. My guess was 19 or 20. She may very well be 17-ish, though.
