One piece: Grand Line Bout (Mugen game)

Well this game has been an underground mugen project for about maybe since october or something. Well the beta has finally been released, and so I'd thought I would share it here too.

First off I did not make this game, even though I helped out with it. Here's the people who helped

An installation note: When it's finished installing you'll see an advertisement/credits window for the Click Team ( Who made the program used to make the installation ) Just exit after this because it means the installation is complete.

I didn't have any problems installing/launching the game, which isn't bad but voices would be cool. But that could be because I'm so used to having voices for all MUGEN characters. =P

Yeah we should be getting voices I think. If I remember correctly someone was ripping from grand battle 2 and getting the voices. I am not sure though.

well i think some time ago i made it so sendspace automatically sends all the info to windows media player but i can choose to open it to other programs so i was just wondering where it should be sent to

WOW. I've never played any OP games before, but this is pretty damn cool!

I decided to start off with someone simple, Luffy, and promptly got my ass completely owned by Bon-Chan. But the fighting was extremely fun. Great music, cute sprites, nice backgrounds… You guys did an excellent job.

To those who can't install/play it, I had that problem for a short while until I noticed it was a .rar file (which I had never seen before). A quick google search brought me to rarlab.com where I downloaded a trial version of something called WinRAR. That should help.

Also, I noticed that Kuro's character portrait in the Character Select screen was way larger than the other peoples.

Oh, and I had a problems pulling off some of the specials, are all moves listed incorporated or is that what you're aiming for at the moment?

No the moveists aren't what they are at all. The movelists are more or less they move list of the full version of the characters. The movelists would be set to mugen controls anyway which are different for each computer.

As for kuro, he wasn't included in the actual "beta" and was just in the character folder, so when you add them it won't have the circle around them.

What do you guys think of the game overall though. Post comments people.

Thanks warp, I've been meaning to register here for a while and now I had a reason lol.

But for people having problems with the controls you can also go into the options, input configuration, and there you can change the keyboard setup to whatever you think would be best for yourself. It also supports most controllers as well for those who have them.

I kept myself entertained for quite awhile!
…I kept losing to Zoro T_T;; The sprites are cute, and the BGM is great.

Well if you want to beat zoro, chopper is the cheapest guy to do that XD.

All you have to do his rolling attack and he kicks everyones ass. >=)

Although zoro is a good person to beat zoro.

I think I'll post a little secret in this forum that I didn't post in our forums, and don't post it there warp and l2agnarok.

There was another character accidently in the BETA. Lets just say there is another Shichibukai member in the game if you add him like you did Kuro. I don't want many people using him because he's an extremely early BETA.

On that note tyler, how did people add kuro and stuff if the character folder isnt there. Or is there? I know people can't extract the characters, so how does that work.

Since I am a team member I really didn't download the public beta download. So how did that work?

I really loved the game. I think it is much better than Grand Battle Colloseum for Wonderswan ^^ The funniest part is "To be continued" screen (Tashigi drooling lol).

I didn't find how to add Kuro yet.

I know lmao. I did that really early version just so people could play as him, added that one special and kind of forgot about him XD.

But since I've been updating a lot lately I'll probably get to him soon. Though he doesn't have much more to add.

Yeah, I should probably explain how incase there are people not familiar with MUGEN here.

Kaitsu left the select.def file in the data folder, which is accessable. So since him and Kuro are in the char folder you still can add them by adding their names to the select.def. Kadeemtheking also found a way that you can add other characters into the BETA besides our One Piece characters which is pretty neat but will not be like that in the final version.

lol, thsi game does Kuro justice. Takes hits like a bitch, but is ungodly awesome and fast. By far my favorite in this game, that and the "secret" character was cool. You know, Mr. 3 was always my favorite BW member, too bad he never gets love.

If he had sprites he would be in the game. Ms.goldenweek will get love though. She has sprites, and will probably be a support with mr.2 or robin or someone. Hell even ms.father's day is a support

Actually dimps says he's going to do a full sheet for Mr. 3 so he'll probably be in the game as well.

after finally getting the WinRAR, i gotta say this game is really cool. its fairly simple, but the characters are awesome.

Chopper and Zoro seem really powerful compared to the other characters though, except maybe Luffy and Sanji.

When will the final release be er…released?

I would like to ask if Miss Doublefinger will appear as a playable character. You know, she has some cool movements.

@ultimateclima, the final version is so far off right now that I don't think I could even give you an estimate ^_^;

@Kuroneko, right now we don't have any plans on having Miss Doublefinger as a playable character but for all we know she may still be added. Though if you are interested in the characters we currently do plan on having in the game here is the list:

What's your high score on survival? I got 19… I used Luffy. For the most part, I felt like Naruto, because I just kept head butting things to death.

In other news, I keep getting this thing asking what program I want to open select.def in when I feel like adding Kuro. What program should I open it in?

I got 26 using Zoro. I felt cheap though because I just get pounding C and using Ushi Bari so they never got in a hit.

@warp, Bear+Shark4Ever should be the one spriting Lucci. I also forgot to add Kaku because l2agnarok has said he's going to do him probably.

In survival I've gotten in the high twenties before with Zoro then Ace. I haven't played that in a while, I think I'll try to break thirty o_o;

Ah, MUGEN. I've been using the program forever, now. A few things…

1.) Moves are way too sparse. Just one button strikes, and two button supers. And whassup with no Desert Spada or Sables for Croc?! Which brings me to my next point...

2.) Game needs projectiles. Robin seems to be the only one to make things come out at people.

3.) The attack effects feel like poopies. Croc uses the Ground Death, and there's no effect?! No screen shaking?! No chaos on the ground?! Yawn-inducing lameness...

4.) Why does Smoker have the White Blow as both a regular attack, and a super?!

5.) Some boss battles would be nice. If I can make a recommendation, have an Arc enemy as a mid-boss (i.e. Kuro or Smoker) and a Saga enemy as the last boss (i.e. Crocodile or Enel).

But mostly, I wanna see more attacks, and more effects. But so far, it's awesome.

@Buuhan1: Sure, you can give Franky a try. We do have a good base sprite if you want to use that as well.

@Generic_Soda: Unfortunately you can't add your own music to the stages. I'm sorry it's like this but there are too many people in the M.U.G.E.N community that like to steal other people's work and the team has put a lot of work into this game.

@Captain Shmeckie: Thank you, we're always looking for people's opinions on how to make the game better.

1. This is just a BETA and a few of the characters had some attacks removed. Though some will have limited amount of attacks, I can't deny that. But we are trying our best with the sprites we have to work with. We do have a bunch of good spriters working on new attacks though ( including Desert Spada )

2. There will be more projectiles in the final release. Zoro has his Pound Hou attack, Ace with Higan now, Krieg has a variety of bomb and spear attacks, Vivi has a projectile attack and maybe another could be added later, Usopp is already very heavily projectile based and with more to come, Chopper will have Dr. Kureha as a support character who throws weapons, Kuro has Jango as a support character who throws his ring, and others. Basically I'm trying to keep the characters set to their personality and fighting style.

3. Again this is still a BETA and smaller things like effects will be added then. Right now we're more focused on getting the characters coded out with as few glitches and bugs before we add the effects and things.

4. Smoker doesn't have a very large sheet, originally White Blow was just a special but when I went back and recoded him I added a weakened version as a normal attack for combo purposes.

5. We're going to have a much more planned out Story mode along with endings in the future. I know I've said it a few times but this is a BETA and getting a Story Mode set up wasn't one of our priorities. But, if you want to simulate one you can go into the select.def and add "order=#" to the characters and make your own Story mode. Like if you want Crocodile to be a boss add "order=10" to his line in the select.def and he'll appear last ( if you add an order to the other characters ). I hope that will be enough until we get the final version complete.

So yeah, this is still far from complete and the characters will all have more attacks added. People like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji have at least 7 specials already. But I'm glad you like it so far and just keep your eye out for the final version ^_^

I know how to set up boss fights in MUGEN (=P) and I know it's just a BETA. I'm just giving advice on what to add in the finished product. If I can make a suggestion, perhaps something added to the White Blow would make a good super. For instance, in Grand Battle Rush, Smoker runs over the enemy with his cycle before slamming them into the ground with White Blow. I know you can't do all that, but maybe adding something to that super version. Like, for instance, have him rear his fist back, like he's "charging" a strong punch, then letting loose with the White Blow, but having it reach farther, and perhaps a screen shake and an impact sound when it connects. Something like that, to seperate the super version from the normal one.

And as for changing music, I doubt he wants to steal your game and claim it as his own, he probably just wants to put in his own music.

Actually at one point I had planned coding the special White Blow to go longer and letting the person control if the White Blow special went up or down. Also maybe one of our spriters could sprite Smoker on his cycle to make that kind of special too. But I will do something to make it more of a special ^_^

I know he wasn't going to steal the game just by wanting to change the music. But because of how many people do steal in the M.U.G.E.N community we had the game closed up and people can't access the stage files to change the background music. That's what I meant lol.

probably irrelevant but in the updated list of attacks it doesn't say Luffy can use Gomu Gomu Chomp Chomp by D+C.

Well, we don't have music for the character select screen yet so that's probably why that one doesn't work lol. But seriously that would be a big help. The current plug-in seems to work for about 75% of the time so it can be improved, PMing you for it right after this.

@ultimateclima, for the movelists I only put down specials and combos. The c button, for the most part, is for rush attacks or charge attacks.

Sure, I don't see why you couldn't make a request. Just be sure you looked at the list the page before this one for a nearly complete list of who we have planned to be in the game ( I think I forgot Mr. 3 and Kaku ).

No, you can't get the characters in regular MUGEN, however, at least for the BETA, you can import other characters into One Piece: Grand Line Bout. How to do this is posted on the forums for this game. I think there's a link on page 1 of this topic.
