http://killthemongoose.satamsonic.com/onepiece/namechanges.html
see? =PI've got 8 columns going on. :)
Well whatever. o_O;
-
then go ahead and upload yours, I just made a quick one. ^_^ I'd love to see yours though.
EDIT: Speaking of which, I haven't eaten all day. I should take a lunch break.
can I join? Im hungry too
-
@Cain:
Nothing's confirmed yet, it's just a lot of the polls turning up want Funi to release it from the beginning, and if Funi sees that overwhelming decision they'll probably go for that.
I have a question… I noticed that all of the Samurai Champloo episodes were released at once. Is there any chance that Funimation could…
listen...
it's an awesome idea everyone will love...
Hold the releases. That's right, halt them. Then release 3 to 5 BOX SETS at once. Starting from the begining. People would snack them off the shelves. That's good money, and keeps the fans satisfied; untill the next big release. Yes, it probably won't happen… but it would be the best senario for everyone.

Uhh, Samurai Champloo was 20-some episodes.
So you're saying that they should spend a ton of money to get all of them done without releasing any of them, and then release them all together (300 episodes) without knowing that they'd sell well?? o_o;;
then go ahead and upload yours, I just made a quick one. ^_^ I'd love to see yours though.

But a quick one is what counts right now. :p It'd be a tad too late for me, probably.
tosses you a piece of chicken

o.o noooo, I didn't say ALL 300. XP I said 3-5 volumes.
They release 4 Volumes which cover from the start to the end of the East Blue Saga.
Next, the entire Baroke Works Saga (4 Volumes)
Next Jaya to half of Sky Piea (4 Volumes)
Next the rest of the Sky Piea arch, the Marine Base Filler, and the Foxy Arch (4 Volumes)
and so on. Just an idea…
-
I rather see 1 boxset at a time just to see how sales go. or at least see a samll demo disk like Foxbox did with Opening videos,themes,and other stuff(now only if i had the CD still XD)
-
@Lobster:
Alright, so Funimation says they are releasing 2 to 3 box sets every year, containing 13 episodes… I wish it would contain more... My Invader Zim Box Set contains 25 episodes... Ohh well, I just hope that they give us good high quality, with widescreen. Animated DVD menus, translated interviews with Oda, etc...
Sooo our 1st BOX SET 1. "The Log is Taken! Salvage King, Masira!"
2. "Monsters Appear! Don't Touch the Whitebeard Pirates"
3. "Stop Dreaming! The City of Ridicule, Mock Town!"
4. "A Pirate's Height! The Man who Talks of Dreams and the King of Underwater Exploration"
5. "The Legendary Family! 'Liar Norland'"
6. "Hard Turn to the Clouds! Find the Southbird!"
7. "Dreams Don't Come True!? Bellamy vs. The Saruyama Alliance"
8. "The 100 Million Man! The World's Greatest Authority and the Pirate Blackbeard"
9. "Sail into the Sky! Ride the Knock-Up Stream"
10. "This is the Sea of the Sky! The Knight of the Sky and Heaven's Gate"
11. "Godland Skypiea! The Angels of the Cloud Beach"
12. "Forbidden Sacred Ground! The Island Where God Resides and Heaven's Judgement!"
13. "Criminals Already!? Skypiea's Upholders of the Law"I think 13 episodes is fine. If we get two or three a year, that's equal to 26-39 episodes a year on DVD. If they released, say, 4 episodes on a disc every two months like a lot of anime DVDs, we'd get 24 episodes a year. I say it's a great deal.
I'd like the DVDs to start from the beginning, but if this ends up being our first boxset, I say it's awesome. We get the entire Jaya arc, Blackbeard pirates, Ace, Mihawk, Doflamingo, and Bartholemew Bear included, as well as Bellamy getting own. If that weren't enough also get the beginning of Skypiea and see a hint of Enel's power.
-
I got my version of the name changes done: One Piece Name Changes
(Sorry it's on sendspace, I don't know how to uplaod Word docs :sad: )And the pictures are done! Look:
Can easily see it says "Bandai 2003"
Clearly readable "Made in China
And the all imprtant Bandai logo!Plus the front and back (The front has the Toei stuff an the back has Pirate King AND Zoro on it )
One Piece Singaporean Toy Box (Front)
One Piece Singaporean Toy Box (Back)And I don't know where this was sold because I got it as a present from my Aunt ^^ But I know it's from Singapore and it was figure of Ace (It said on a piece of paper with it and the Ace toy had the Ace tatoo ^^) I hope all this is useful to you, Earthbound Mato!

Yes, it is a good deal. However, I would like to see it at the begining. Seeing intro 2 on the big screen would be amazing. Plus I would probably be introducing people to One Piece if I watched it, so starting from the begining would be the best option; for the fans and financially for Funimation. I know tons of people who are dying to see the 4Kids episodes uncut. A release from the begining would bring Funimation and Viz an unfathomable abount of money. I can't even fathom it. I hope they don't blow their chances.
BTW, weren't all the old One Piece episodes, including the East Blue Saga, updated into high quality wide screen HD Dvds in Japan?

(First, I'm a guy, so "Mother" sounds kinda weird :P)
Next, I included a few of your pics. I had to crop stuff out because of how things are set up, but I told them I can give full-size versions if they want.
Third, thanks :)

Too bad Mato couldn't just pick like the top five worst ones and then pretend he didn't see them on the list because it was so big and confusing.
I don't want him to get fired though, so I guess it can't be helped. And yeah whatever you guys write don't mention him, since he doesn't desreve to get busted by whoever he has to answer to for choosing to tell us about it.
But really stuff like Gunfall doesn't matter. Just the really stupid stuff thats blatantly different from the original name and sounds different when pronounced. Like Van Ogre and Boost for Chopper. I doubt they will change Zolo, but some of this other stuff is possible.
Oh and Mato pleaaaaaaaaaaaase don't tell me Franky is going to be Flanky just because it was in that one game. If his name is Flanky I'll just die. :sad:
-
First: I thought Earthbound Mato sounded sillier but i'll use that now. I like it better and sounds more manly Edit: I changed my past posts to say "Earthbound" over "Mother". I was hoping you'd get the reference. But Earthbound does sound better than Mother, doesn't it ^^
Second: OK!
Thrid: No prob :)To Skull kid: LOL
Oh BTW, for the names of Blackbeards crew, I could a German friend who has German episodes on his PC for the German shots of the the bit when it says thier names at the end of 151. They translate them and they could be used as evidence
-
Glad to see that things are looking up for this so far. However, and I KNOW I'm going to be the minority on this thought, but I feel I should say something.
While K-F and such have done a nice job giving us the Japanese version of the show for several years and what-not, you guys should take into consideration something: even WE don't know, in certain cases, what a 100% perfect "translation" would be. The Zoro/Zolo correlation is totally obvious, so that you can disregard. But what I mean is, just because the subtitlers or scanlators romanized a character name a certain way, doesn't INSTANTLY make it the correct term. Mato mentioned wikipedia, I've noticed several pictures people use for character profiles are from the fan scanlations of certain manga chapters, and while the name will be one way in the article, the scan will have something different. One example that strikes my mind is Bartholomew Kuma/Bear, where the picture of him says "Bisoromi". Something similiar happened with Blueno of CP9, where everyone instantly assumed it was "Bruno". Similiarly, Mr. 2's officially romanized name by Oda himself is "Bon Kurei", and yet to due to not only the subs, but the ENGLISH video games (4Kids influence and all) people I know will ONLY refer to him as "Bon Clay", which I do as well, but going by the same logic, that means we're being incorrect. For all we know, Gan Fall could supposed to be "Gunfall" (With him specifically, if K-F called him Gunfall to begin with, and 4Kids called him Gan Fall in OP:GA then people would be bitching about that, inadvertedly). Same thing applies to Enel/Eneru. If I'm not mistaken, we haven't seen an official romanization of his name by Oda himself (He was Enel in Fighting for OP, but then by that logic, "Flanky" is correct :B), so Eneru could be more correct than "Enel", despite the correlation with "Enel".
Again, like Zoro, some of these are more obvious than others. At the same time though, just like how wikipedia has been banned from college computers due to people being able to edit anything they want, just because someone said something first, doesn't automatically make it right. I'm not saying K-F is totally wrong and is being blasphemous, and I'm not saying a lot of Toei's "choices" for certain terms and names for everything is necassarily correct either, but just note that there really isn't anything (especially not over here, considering OP didn't even originate here) that is the ultimate authority on how things should be. A lot of the views seem to sound very familiar to the whole debate over Navy and Marines. People seem to be SO against something that they're not already used to, that they refuse to accept something different, even if it may be considered "more correct". I'm still all for getting things like "Zolo" corrected, and I hope that ends up going over for the best, so I wish you guys luck on that (you'd all do a better job of that than I ever could).
…oh and nice with the "Purple Monkey Dishwasher" reference, Mato. Something tells me I'm gonna be the only one to catch that XD;
-
@Skull:
If his name is Flanky I'll just die. :sad:
Why don't Naruto fans get stuck with "Olochimalu" :sad: There ARE "r"'s in the english language too… It's just not fair... are they idiots?
-
Because all of the Naruto characters have strictly Japanese names. The One Piece character names are a lot more tangeable and varied.
-
Just wanted to say that I know Wikipedia isn't the ultimate source, but it should be good enough to hopefully convince the people that need convincing. I've referenced other sources too of course.
-
Also their only going to release 2 or 3 box sets a year? That sucks. That means they probably wouldn't even be done a decade from now.
-
-
@Skull:

Again, while it does seem slow, that's a normal speed for boxsets to get released. It's certainly faster than any alternative(besides releasing the boxsets quicker obviously). Besides, I doubt most people would have $50 to pay for a boxset every two months, so releasing boxsets quicker would only hurt sales.
-
flanky? :wassat: :blink:
Would Iceburg be Iceburg or iceberg?
and what about Conis and shura? do they keep thier original names? -
Well Prince of Tennis and Naruto box sets are being released at a rate of 4 per year, so it's not like it's impossible to speed it up. 3/yr. would be fine for me, anyway.
and what about Conis and shura? do they keep thier original names?
Since they kept their names in Grand Adventure, iirc, I don't see why not.
-
They better start at the beginning if its really only going to be three a year, otherwise we might never get them. Having the beginning is worth far more to me than having a bunch of boxsets for Skypia. Heck I'd probably only want to buy them from the beginning anyway.
Also how come Choppers attacks aren't on that list of things to fix that one guy made?
-
Mato, here are some images from books and merchandise using Zoro. All official.
Sorry, the file is so large. BTW, references are included.
-
@Gon:
Haha, am I the only one who got this reference?
Kirbopher and I got it, too. I've referenced that a few times in real life and always end up having to explain it to people…
Also, I get what you're saying, Kirbopher. The only names I really have problems with are ones that we know aren't right and others that are just dumb, like "mantora". The only thing I don't like about "Eneru" is that it just sounds silly... if they do go with it, I hope they can say it seriously enough. The game that he was in that came over thanks to 4Kids pronounced it "en-air-roo" with emphasis on the "air". I just hope they don't say it like that.

Holy G. Zass! You kick ass! I already sent in the main stuff but I'll be sure to pass this along… if I can. It's a pretty big file :P Also, I gotta try to find the other big file someone uploaded in a previous post. These forums move too fast for me to keep up
-
..oh and nice with the "Purple Monkey Dishwasher" reference, Mato. Something tells me I'm gonna be the only one to catch that XD;
haha not quite i mean you are talking about the number 1 animated show to ever come out of this country, they coined so many phrases my 2 favotes being …meh, and yoink
anyway i am hoping for the ablilty to switch to the japanses voices in upcomeing video games, such as there was in dbz:bt2 for the wii Also, i really hope the one piece: unlimited adventure for the wii makes it stateside
edit: i sure am glad a guy with a sense of humor is doing one piece^^^
-
I'll be sure to pass this along… if I can. It's a pretty big file :P
Let me resize some of the pics and I'll reupload…some I kept large as needed.
Edited to add:
This one is MUCH more manageable
http://www.sendspace.com/file/2v3ln6Sorry about the immense size of the last one!
-

I agree with you, the only problem is that the Jaya/Skypiea episodes HAVE to be made for CN by a certain time, and having to dub the newer episodes and start from the beginning at the same time would be troublesome. We can only hope they could pull that off. I'll buy the uncut DVDs regardless, whether they start from the beginning, from 143, or they alternate between them(which was another suggestion from FUNi).
-
I hope you don't mind me mentioning this again, but Mato, if you could at least let me know if the possibility of a dub opening and ending is at least being 'looked into', I would be most appreciative. Don't need a yes or no, just an acknowledgment would be enough for me, though, to be fair, I know that you're a very busy man right now.
What can I say? I'd love an English version of Hikari E, and Carl Finch has more than proved himself with Dragonball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Case Closed, and Tenchi Muyo GXP. The idea of English versions of Japanese themes is something I greatly enjoy, and would love to see more of.
-
I don't know if these were posted already or if it helps, but:
From manga
From anime and action figuresMato, is there any other image/screenshot/scan that would be helpful to you?
-
Thanks for the stuff guys, it's very helpful :) I'm going to pass them along tomorrow as a complement to our request list. I don't know what's going to come out of all of this, but keep your fingers crossed!
Sprocket: I don't know, and I'm not sure how to find out. But (and this comes from 5 years at funi experience) my mantra spidey-senses tell me that they'll be dubbing the songs. That is NOT fact though, so please please don't go misquoting me. I just have a good feeling it'll happen.
-
Mato… I own all the volumes in Japanese. Would it help to bring some stuff with names written by Oda with me to show someone like Lance (I think he is going to be there).
I also own something like the movie 6 program which has everyone's name in English, or hell I can scan em if you are ever working on movie 6 for reference (since it is by Toei, hoepfully Toei didn't fuck up their own names).
I also will be buying Yellow, and I think it has "The Going Merry" written.Would stuff like this be good to show?
Nothing scanned, just the tanks themself. -

Nothing scanned, just the tanks themself.Anything and everything. Just make sure it's all easy for them to see as fast as possible. Lance is like super duper company rep (and he's probably secretly watching me here :ninja: ) so he'd be a good person to talk to. If you wanna print out all the pics that people've posted today, that'd be cool too. You could even maybe tape the printouts all over you and you could cosplay as "Gimme Zoro" :P Just kidding, but having as much information as possible is good.
EDIT: Of course, if he is secretly watching this, then printing out all the stuff won't be as persuasive since he'll know what's coming :P But it'd be good to do anyway. You might wanna scan the tanks too, so the rep(s) can have copies to take with them maybe.

Dude… I am gonna have everything tabbed. I am going through my tanks now and making little bookmarks. Trust me, I know what I gotta do. So what I need to know is what needs to be marked?
I will also bring print-outs. This way I can show the print-out and the tank to show that nothing has been messed with, and give the print-out to keep.Also everyone... find chapters with names written by Oda. Give me volumes too if possible.
I got till tomorrow night to put things together.
Also, did Oda ever state that so and so was based off so and so? I need that too.
Also... I plan on printing stuff like mantra in the dictionary. Or info people where names came from. Like Teach.
I have a project I am working on. So you can post what you need here and I will get to it ASAP. Just tell me what I gotta do that I am not currently doing.

Japan vol,US. Volumes, or both?
-
Heso!
I don't know if you guys need any more images of the Zoro spelled Zoro but I have the back of an Italian card that has his name spelled Zoro. Here is the link.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/phoenixfuse/pictures1/ZoroCard1.jpg
Also I have some pencil boards and a postcard with his name spelled as Zoro. Let me know if you need a few more items.
-
Too bad we don't got this kinda evidence for other names, like Enel.
-
Japan vol,US. Volumes, or both?
I only have the Japanese volumes.
Buuhan: I CAN bring every instruction booklet I have for an OP video game. They always use Enel. Plus a print-out of the Jump cover.
-
@EvilGamerX:

I own 4 Us and 6 JP volumes..should I look at the US volumes for the names?

Yeah, I'm not so sure if that'll be enough but it will definitely be better than nothing. Thanks.
-
Mato… how many references should I bring in the least?
-
Yellow has Going Merry printed on pages 126 and 127, and Zoro's full name is on every page of his section. There aren't very many other English names of names or places in it. I'm not sure if this is necessary, but on page 2 of chapter 307, Long Ring Long Land is printed clearly, in case there's a problem with that place. Are there specific sections that need to have names verified?
-
flanky? :wassat: :blink:
Would Iceburg be Iceburg or iceberg?
and what about Conis and shura? do they keep thier original names?They will probably call him Ricebulg, because they have lost their minds.

What the fuck are you talking about.
-
@EvilGamerX:
Mato… how many references should I bring in the least?
Depends on what you're going to use. I'd bring at least 10-20 things for Zoro. The reps will probably be like, "We know, we know :cwy:, we want the original way too." but maybe they can pass stuff along. For other characters and names, just however much you can dig up probably.
-
It's probably been mentioned but that one pic of all the CP9 names in English would probably help. I think it has Jyabura's name spelled Jabra on it.
-

I also got Bon Kurei's.
So far I dug up one written in manga ref for….
Zoro
Bon Kurei
Arabasta
Long Ring Long Land
and Logue TownDo you know if I need Cutty Flam... or don't get ahead of myself?
-
@Mr.:
Yellow has Going Merry printed on pages 126 and 127, and Zoro's full name is on every page of his section.
Red had Zoro's name as well on each page of his section if that would help, too.
EvilGamerX…the file I uploaded has a number of scans if you want/need them (they all pertain to Zoro since that's all I have here...and one "Arabasta"). They are from figure boxes, CDs, game manuals, the Log book, etc... It would be redundant material since Mato has it, but you are welcome to it if you'd find it helpful.
