Devils fruit origin?

Everybody is wondering that. Oda never said where they're from or their origin. Devil fruits are still a great mystery. I think in the Skypiea arc they mentioned they grow from trees. Or at least Eneru's fruit did.
-
Orginal Romance Dawn - the Gomu Gomu tree (there was just one DF) that grew every 50 years… Or something like that.
I'm sure back in the Morgan arc there was a mention their secret was suppose to be somewhere in the GL.
-

Not it didn't.
I think that DF's comes from Ancient Kingdom.
-
ancient kingdom?
maybe it came from raftel?
-
There are two dimensions, the one that the manga follows, and one with devils in it. Everytime a devil dies a DF falls from the sky into the manga universe
-
The real answer is: no one knows, and no will (except Oda) until it is officially released in the manga, SBS or databook.
-
@VL7:

is this a fact or u just made this up:getlost:
-
is this a fact or u just made this up:getlost:
It is funny thing that is called humor.
-
I actually like that theory.
-
I always wondered if devil fruits can swim, since there is a "devil in them" at that time, and they could be considered dead weights too.
I never saw any DF swimming in the manga, there might be a whole stack of them under the sea.
edit: ummmm, yeah, that theory is pretty much made up, but its a possibility
-
@VL7:

so are u saying that there is a rubber demon in that other dimension of yours and it died and turn into a fruit that was eaten by luffy?
 -
so are u saying that there is a rubber demon in that other dimension of yours and it died and turn into a fruit that was eaten by luffy?
:blink:Thats the basic idea. It may need some slight adjustments but, yeah.
-

:blink:Oh C'mon. Don't take things so seriously.
-
@AD-HD:
Oh C'mon. Don't take things so seriously.
I think VL7 is actually being serious.
-
yeah i think so too its a nice theory i must say
-
From somewhere i heard(read) that the devil Fruits grow on trees which are only on the last island of the grandline.. raftel…
everything is possible... maybe oda will say that they came out from his ass... we don't know...
ODA IS THE BEST :D -
Think about this, if they only grow on Raftel, how did the hundreds of people that have powers get the fruit, when Roger was the only known person to reach Raftel.
-
the only thing about DF's growing on Raftel is that someone would have to bring them out of Raftel and Give them to the public or people..
It would make since though, since Raftel is probably the island where the ancient kingdom was at..I dont know I like the Tree idea, and once a user dies the fruit regrows or something like that..
-
I like the theory that says the DF grows out of the body when is killed, since it can answer many stuff. For origins.. All I have in mind is a research of the Ancient Kingdom to get powerful.
-
Think about this, if they only grow on Raftel, how did the hundreds of people that have powers get the fruit, when Roger was the only known person to reach Raftel.
Right.
Thats why I wanna know if DF actually swim, or just sink, cause if they sink they can't be brought to different islands by the sea.
That would bring us back to the fall from the sky when devil dies theory:happy: .
-
Well devil fruits are suppose to be the fruit of the Sea Devil, so mabye that has some importance.. Theres over 100 types so that means that they have to be spread somehow..
-
@VL7:
Right.

Not really.. There wasn't even once a mentioning of a DF user before Roger's death, or it might be that my memory is making fun of me.
Anyways, how the hell can a fruit swin? And I don't think it can even go to the sea, leave alone getting on an Island. Even if one did, where's the rest?
-

Maybe I should rephrase that:
Can a DF float, as in can it stay over the water. And there are plenty of ways it could get to the sea if it grows on a tree. It could be blown there by wind or carried by animals, and it doesn't need to get on an Island, it just needs to be found by someone.
-
Oh.. That's clearer.
But, still I think it's too slow, and should have hints even in the past. It's amazingly developed now [basically by Vegapunk], so I think 22 years are too short of a time when a fruit it supposed to be on only two ways of 1) by one of the close islands or 2) by the road between close islands and Raftel. I don't think it should leak out of GL either [well it didn't, but I already wrote it and the delete key is so far away]. -
There isn't any mention of DFs past 22 years yet besides Buggy's….
So it seems DFs were less common once. Maybe Roger did something on Raftel (presuming they come from there) that brought all of them out into the open. I don't know... Baseless guessing.
I'm gonna say, since Shanks was carried over from Romance dawn V.1 and Garp from V.2... The Devil Fruit growing from a tree every 50 years might also have been carried over.

The devil fruits may have something to do with Davy Jones, which is why I'm working on a theory that would explain it all.
Here's what we know of Davy Jones (The One Piece version):
Robin: That's right. The game originated long ago on "Pirate Island,"
the legendary pirate paradise that is said to exist somewhere on the sea…
It was a way to gain a better crew
by simply stealing it from another pirate.Fact 1: Davy Jones was a legendary pirate on Pirate Island. Maybe the first Pirate King?
Porche: Anyone who fails to abide by these rules will be shamed as a pirate and given to Davy Jones' Locker!!!
Do you swear by these rules?!Fact 2: His "Locker" is at the bottom of the sea.
Robin: A pirate of old who was cursed by the devil and is supposedly still alive today, at the bottom of the sea.
Chopper: You can live at the bottom of the sea?
Robin: According to the legend... his ship sank, and all of his treasure
lies buried underneath the deck, in his "locker."Fact 3: Davy Jones ate a devil fruit or was involved in the creation of the devil fruits. Hence, he was "Cursed by the devil".
Fact 4: He's still alive with DF powers, yet can live under the sea.
Fact 5: His ship was a massive treasure ship.
So, it's possible that this Davy Jones created all the devil fruits, and kept most of them to himself. The vast majority of Devil fruits may be in Davy Jones' Locker.

Actually this could be possible if Davy Jones was a merman. THink about it. He'd be able to breathe because he has gills but powerless underwater. All he needs is to somehow use his powers to sink people.
I just don't think he created DFs though. Davy Jones is a great legend though.
edit:lookin up Davy Jone's locker Davy Jones did have control over evil spirits of the sea of Davy Jones could have the power to make them.
-
well all fruits dont grow on trees so maybe DFs all dont have to grow on trees maybe bcause like all fruits df are all diffrent. pluss we might be able to see what happens when a df person dies then the df grows back with bellamy because we might see a flash back with bellamy diing and a df growing back :D
-
To me, the devil fruits came from Raftel and that was Gol D. Roger who dispatch them all around the world.
-
In real life… "Davy Jones' Locker" refers to the bottom of the ocean... I'm pondering if Oda is messing with our heads again.
-
Well i have a theory, once upon a time the world was swarming with litle devils with wierd powers and some guy with magic powers enprisioned them all in fruits and spread them all arround the GL(as we se in Jyaburas explanation two devils fighting)
-
I think Devil Fruit come from the tree of eden (Knowledge)
-
Sanji already said who makes the DF:
"God makes the fruit and the Devil makes the spice"
-
devil fruits come from devilukia, everyone knows that
<3 devilukia for their fruits and girls
-
There is already a thread like this Iif I recall. :P
-
I believe that the devil fruits really came from Raftel. You see, when Gol D. Roger got there, he found these glowing fruits. He made a wish on them and a giant whale came to grant his wish. After the wish was granted, all the devil fruits were scattered through the sky across the world. Another wish can't be granted until all the fruits are collected and gathered into One Piece. It could also be why there was a fruit on the sky islands.
_>
cough/crazy dbz theorycough
-
ok i was thinking while reading the 441 spoilers.
well we all know what happens when a DF user dies the fruit grows back…
and we also know that if a df user eats a second DF they will blow up and die well do the DF's grow back both together on the same tree
pritty dull yeah but it got me thinking what u guys think?
-
I thought the three Great Devils Paramecia, Zoan, and Logia created the Devil Fruits to allow mortals to use a portion of their power, in exchange for being cursed by the sea. It was a way for them to amuse themselves by watching the misfortunes of mortals, and distracted them from arguing about "which one of us could beat the other in a fight?"
-

I thinks its very possible they are spread by the sea. It was never said the fruit itself can't float in water, just the person that ate it.
-
All evidence points to Davy Jones as being the originator of the Devil Fruits.
Think about what Robin said and how Oda foreshadows:
1. Davy Jones was a legendary (Note, no other pirate except GOL D. ROGER is called legendary. There are famous, greatest (yonkou), Warlords (Shichibukai), and other titles, but no pirate other than the previous Pirate King was called legendary) pirate who ruled on Pirate Island (the pirates paradise that was NOT mentioned but Ace, but obviously does exist).
2. Davy Jones had a massive treasure ship and a "Locker" below deck where he kept the most valuable treasures.
3. Davy Jones had a devil fruit himself (He was "cursed by the devil").
4. He's still alive centuries later, living below the sea. (Immortal? Ghost?)
5. Davy Jones is a Pseudonym for the Devil.
Given all this, Davy Jones was probably the creator of the Devil fruits. It's ridiculous to think that Roger distributed the fruits because some have been in the hands of the WG for years (Kuzan has had his 20+). It's possible Roger did drop some off, like for the girl who I think was his daughter (Robin), but all the fruits did not originate from Gol D. Roger.
Davy Jones was probably the first Pirate King, too.
-
Vending Machines.
-
Um…this ain't Scud.
-
well i like the theory someone said in the past: when someone eats a DF the DF tree (that can produce only one fruit) dies and when that person dies either a DF tree grows from his body so there can't be 2 rubbermen for example in the same time
that could also explain why shank's had the gomu fruit with him if roger had eaten it,well i said too much baseless speculation
well now roger is the only modern character able to reach raftel and buggy found a fruit propably b4 his crew reached raftel so i dunno
we'll wait and see
EDIT: oh and guybrush, very cool and smart avatar and sig

This theory shouldn't be hard to prove or disprove, we just need a DF user to die….............Oh, right, it will be since no one wants to die in OP.
Maybe Ace died and when the BB pirates turn up with one of the crew being a Fire logia we will know that Ace is dead and that the grows from dead body theory is true.

well i also thought of that but i thought it would be too much to tell it,but that would be so cool!!! imagine laffite eating it and hiding a sword in his stick lile urahara in bleach!
then zoro will show BB how you really beat a logia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-

But Luffy and co. will come and carry Ace's DF in Ace's memory. Then when they meet Vegapunk he'll combine it with one of Zoro's swords to make it catch on fire…
on second thought forget it. If Sanji can cause friction to his legs Zoro can do the same to his swords.
-
Zoro has never really fought a logia. Except for Ao Kiji, but he was owned.
-
@Impel:
Zoro has never really fought a logia. Except for Ao Kiji, but he was owned.
He briefly fought Enel too when Robin was attacked by him. Of course, he got owned then as well.
As for this Davy Jones thing ad the Devils fruit. The whole story is nothing more then a myth.
Davy Jones' Locker is an idiom for the bottom of the sea — the resting place of drowned seamen. It is used as a euphemism for death at sea (e.g. to be "sent to Davy Jones' Locker")[1]; Davy Jones is a nickname (used primarily by sailors) for what would be the devil of the seas.
source= wikipedia.
So i doubt its true. This is probably one of those mysteries that won't be answered until the end.
I also believe that there was a question about this in the SBS something about Davy jones.
Personally i think they all have their source from a Tree which is from Raftel. They fell into the Sea kind of like certain Tropical fruits or coconuts and then floated down the Grandline over 100s of years until they were found.
