Oda didn't make the anime, Toei did.

i mean in general, the manga too, and i do beleive that the animators at toei do there best to emulate his style, no?
Probably the fact is that he creates his characters with such amazing detail, that they are generally excepted by everyone. One Piece is the only Anime I've watched where I like everyone in a different way. It's amazing.
Except for that Vivi bitch.

I agree, except for that last part. XD I can't think of any character I dislike in One Piece, some I don't care about that much but I don't dislike them…
Personally, I think it isn't so much Oda's "personal style" (although I think it does help that his characters aren't cookie-cutter copies like they are in some series). Rather, One Piece excels because it takes the tenets of the Shounen manga archetype and does them really, really well. My case in point: the general themes of what it means to be a man, strength through friendship, and willpower overcoming any obstacle. These ideas are often implied in other shounen manga, but Oda takes them and speaks them aloud, elevating them to not just a theme, but a philosophy. You'd think that this would hurt the series by making things too obvious, but instead, it has the effect of raising the story above its inspirations and contemporaries, into the embodiment of the genre itself.
It's the eyes, I'm telling you.
There's the feel of a living world, of more people than the ones in the frame, of a past that extends before Chapter 1.
The cartoon is pretty generic, in my opinion.
The comic, however, is incredible. Oda knows what to draw when, where, and how, so that every page feels like it's worth looking at - one of the best traits that he picked up from Toriyama.
I agree with Roz, actually. I hate the huge shiny eyes. Give me some simple Kaku or Usopp eyes any day, I absolutely despise the overly-shiny eyes and overly-pointy heads. Oda's style is very unique, and in all honesty if it weren't that way I probably wouldn't have payed too much attention to this series at first.

Same here. The style is pretty much always what drags me in. This is probably why at this point Lupin III and One Piece are the only anime/manga that I bother with.
Its all about style.
I agree with COWMAKAZE. I can't stand those big ol' shiny eyes. If you were to tie me to
a chair, show me a picture of a steriotypical anime bishie and a picture of Usopp
and asked me which I would prefer, I'd pick Usopp.
Oda is so unique. He strays from most shonen plots. And by most shonen plots,
I mean a average boy with either a giant sword (The weapon kind, you pervs) or
some fancy-shmancy magical powers. Oda has some guy made of rubber.
The average viewer would think "WTF. Rubber? This is gay."
I, myself, thought his idea was awesome and continued watching from there.
And I was amazed at how he can turn something as simple as a boy made
or rubber to a 300,000,000 beri worth pirate.
^I agree with that too, and with COWMAKAZE.
The style is very unique, but also the wtf factor is too. Oda doesn't care about making his characters emo (think sauske from Naruto…), or to make them all grim, badass, and misunderstood dark heroes either. He makes them more like a fun loving bunch, even the more serious crew members like Zoro. Also I do agree about the eyes...many times those huge eyes can put me off of manga, but I don't mind them in anime for some reason. I do think OP manga > anime big time, but the anime isn't too bad for the action scenes. The art is butchered in it though, and that's what makes me download it but reluctant to watch (haven't watched it in so long...).
Another thing is, you know the guy drawing One Piece, thinking it up, and just making it is doing something he enjoys, you can just feel it. You can tell that Oda intends for his fans to have FUN. He wants to make it a very enjoyable ride, and he is succeeding.
It's really the characters that draw me in, Oda's character seem more…believable than a lot of other series I read. Not sure why. Designwise the characters seem very simple, but something about them makes me love a lot of them to death. Oda's art style is also really interesting, and he puts a lot of effort into his work. He's also pretty good at using some shonen cliches, just like Watsuki Nobuhiro.
What, you want the full list?
It's got unique characters and great character interactions, a wonderful, breathtaking fantasy world that is very fleshed out, unique abilities, a wonderfully wacky and original artstyle, and best of all, Franky.
I agree that Oda is trying to make the series an enjoyable ride. You can tell that he has a passion for the manga, and actually knows where he's going with the story, unlike in a certain other manga shifty eyes
What differences does One Piece have to other titles? It doesn't try to be like other titles & it's just a fun watch/read that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Oda created Kaku who became a Giraffeman i never saw a Giraffeman before in any Anime or cartoon
No emo or wangst.
The fact that he can make a giraffe seem badass.
The standout feature of OP IMO, is the unique artstyle Oda has. Can't say I've seen anything like it before. Everything else is alright too tho.

Bingo. The mythology is brilliant, as well as the great feeling of adventure and exploration you get when you discover places like Water 7 or new major characters.
I actually thought Oda's style during the first volumes was absolutely hideous but I'm glad he improved so much One Piece is probably one of the best drawn weekly published mangas today.
