Why are they always Bittorrets?

Because providing direct downloads is expensive and uses much bandwidth, and there isn't a single fansubbing group that can provide that consistently.
They also provide IRC. Unless you want to contribute enough money for fansubbers to provide direct downloads, then just deal with it.

Or find a site with direct downloads, since there's definitely at least one that exists.

Youtube is the best place to watch the subs, I did that a lot.

IRC = direct downloads, just a different manner of such. As Cosmic said, it's really expensive and torrents are safer since the download can continue at any time.
The problem is, some people have arse-hole internet providers like mine who think torrents are the devil and build into my hardware an incompatibility with operating torrents or p2ps!

I dont even know how u dled a bitorrent client. My school has blocked any dling prviliges, except for email attachments, and the comps suck. Anyways, couldn't you just have waited to do it at home?

Joekido, anything not the exact same size and super high quality sucks on youtube. It doesn't even have a widescreen feature.

You may as well be asking, why are 90% of all fansubs always Bittorrents.
The answer is, it's easiest/cheapest for the subbers.

He was probably referring to college, where he lives, and thus where they are his internet provider.

IRC is much more faster and convenient than Bittorrent, but torrents pretty much revolutionized the way anime and other such things have been distributed.
I doubt we'd have half as many widely used fansub groups now if Bittorrent was never made.
