Garp's Impossibly Huge Ball & Chain Attack

Seriously, that page has to be one of the craziest things I've seen in One Piece so far, to the point where I kinda don't even like it.

I mean, seriously, where was it, and how do they sail around with it? It would be like a constant anchor, since you couldn't fit it on the ship since it's bigger than their entire ship, and it must weigh a 10,000 tons if it's not hollow.

Now for the physics… There's no way that Garp could throw that thing up over the ship, since he would need to push against the ship (with his feet) at a force greater than the weight of the ball before it would lift, but that would be sure to sink the ship he's standing on! And if he wanted to throw it that high, he would need to push with several times more weight!

And think about how he could hold onto a chain and throw it, too. Good thing Oda didn't try to draw that part! My only explanation would be that he jumped into the air with the chain, tugged on the chain with enough strength to pull the ball into the sky, which would also shoot him down towards the ball so that they met half-way, and then use the point of impact to redirect the ball and himself, and then land back on the deck and guide the ball down while holding onto the chain. ... Yeah... I know, it's crazy either way.

What do you think about that ridiculous attack? Is there any good explanation?

Luffy could have gear 3 punched it right back at garp(which in my opinion would have been way cooler). This is a story about ridiculous fights where huge towers can be cut in half by someone spinning their neck.

The most obvious theory will be summed up at the bottom of this post. The majority of this post will consist of random baffling. Please skip to the bottom if you desire to avoid the unnecesarry pixels.

First and foremost, the gentlemen who created this topic has a lack of imagination. Although that may be good or bad, I feel that that is the cause of this misunderstanding. The pyshics he or she described are indeed those that run hand in hand with logic, although there is one simple detail that he or she seems to forget. All the more reason for me point out my most obvious detail that has surely been used over and over.

While I disagree with the gentlemen who brought up the devil fruit, I feel as if he had no intention of being serious. As I am in a situation where I have no right to speak on the matter of seriousness, the odds of an individual reading it the post to this point are slim to slimmer.

Back to the original poster, I fail to understand why he or she spent so much time deriving such a misunderstood post. The search for answers often leads to more questions, thus rendering your search useless. In order to obtain the answers you seek, you must answer them yourself. The previous sentences made absolutely no sense, and you I highly advise myself to post my theory right now. Although it is not a theory because my theory has been proven. Thus my theory is actually a factual piece of information. I thank you all the more for helping me improve my typing skills. Anything I said, and or may have wanted to say was said in an effort to increase my typing speed. It was not to harm you or anyone else who feels offended by this type of speech. Thank you for enduring this long post for those you have managed to reach it. I understand the lack of humor may bore you, and this was not intended to be funny. I just felt the need to type an extended essay.

Yes, Comics and Mangas are full of impossible actions (geppou for example). But this attack? Its like Bugs Bunny pulling a HUGE hammer from behind his back.

Why does this particular thing bother you so? It's not like it's the first time something impossible happened in One Piece, or indeed, shounen.
I mean, you don't like it, okay, you're entitled to that opinion, but weren't you at all bothered by all the other things in the series that defy logic? Like Zoro throwing an entire bulding at Mr. 1 or all those times villains and good guys alike have survived what should have been fatal injuries?

Also, punching giant balls on chains gives Garp a very nice feeling of punching giant balls on chains. After all, punching giant balls on chains when you have eaten the "I like to punch giant balls on chains fruit" would really make you want to punch giant balls on chains and punch even more giant balls on chains even more.

Every series with fantasy will have things that are impossible in our world, but that doesn't mean that the fantasy world can be totally random and inconsistant. A fantasy world still has rules, even though they aren't our rules. I am questioning whether there is any way to explain how Garp's attack could work in the One Piece world.

Whoever brought up Looney Toons said it perfectly. In that world, literally anything is possible, including characters addressing and speaking to the reader, the artist's "paintbrush" altering the scenery before the viewer's (and character's) eyes, and creating objects out of nowhere. One Piece does not work like that. That ball came from somewhere, and it will return somewhere afterwards.

The people in One Piece are able to suppress RL limits in strength. That's a shonen thing, nothing more. Like Toguro hauling the arena floor from the old arena to the new one after Hiei blew up half the arena, and Zoro lifting a building in Arabasta.

I guess I can understand the doubt. Oda possibly couldn't draw such a huge ball without trespassing objects. Maybe it was too havy for an anchor, given that anchors is not an object about which we wouldn't expect an exageration. I guess it's just a matter of proportions. The flying 1000 might have given a wrong idea.

Its about 800,000 tons if you use a conservative diameter. Call it an even million tons and you have a workable figure. Garp has the largest hammer space ever…. Not to mention, fucking the incredible hulk six ways to sunday on strength figures. Thats like hurling 10 nimitz aircraft carrier with full personal, ammo and fighter complements at someone. And that wasn't even a strained lift.

You should also ask "How could Zoro lift up a building?" or "Shouldn't Luffy be dead after being impaled 50 million times?" but no, instead you try to use real world physics with a manga.

Heavier than Zoro's building I'd imagine which WAS a strained lift. Garp is the official strong man on one piece. Maybe he's some kind of half or half giant decendant (like a quarter or eighth giant). Maybe we'll just leave that theory to whitebeard but….where this freakish strength comes from is the real question.

I don't think admiral w. was saying "how can garp hold that much weight". He was asking"how is it possible to hold something that weighs more than the ship he is standing on,an throw it without the ship collapsing under the weight of the chain and ball.Which i can understand where he is coming from.

at least zoro was standing on solid ground.This is just like the arguement over what chopper did in skypeia when fighting (forgot the name)

However I still don't mind cause its a manga.But its a reasonable arguement
