My Parents do not mind at all, in fact my mum loves anime so do my brothers, they're both older than me, my dad doesn't like it much but he's totally cool with it and does not prevent me from watching at all.

My parents really don't mind either that I watch anime. My mom really does not care to watch it but my dad would watch it once in awile when ever there is a good action sceen on and my brother had made me start to watch anime but now he does not care to much for it unless it has some kind of porn in it.

That's too bad you should tell your brother that Pornograpy sucks and that there's absolutely no story in it
-
Neutral. My parents will watch the anime they can understand i.e. dubbed in chinese.
And my brother and I are absolute lovers of animes ;)
-
I kinda got my younger brother into Anime, my parents think its dyre but are indifferent to my fandom.
-
well, we're part japanese on my mother's side, so she's very used to this sort of thing. even when i was still living with them, she would more than a few episodes of whichever anime i was getting into then…
my younger sister is very much into shoujo/shounen ai stuff.
and my dad...well, i got him to watch some OP eps and now he kinda... wants to cosplay shanks...
-
The fun that will be tomorrow. My parents are coming to visit me tomorrow… the same day as my Anime Club's meeting. So this will be fun.
My mom doesn't watch. My dad thinks it is shit. My brother is on the 50/50, he likes FMA...
Tomorrow they will be exposed to Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu and Monster.
-
My parents don't watch anime, but they really don't mind it either. My mom used to be convinced that anime was the japanese trying to corrupt US kids, basically getting back at us for WWII…a la the Chinpokomon episode of South Park (which my dad freaking LOVES), but now she doesn't really care. I was driving us somewhere once and had the Cowboy Bebop OST on. She really liked it, so who knows?

Eh, they're used to it from me, I've been a cartoon junkie since I was a kid (except for that brief period in my early early teens when I tried to convince myself I'd outgrown them– and then saw the Little Mermaid about 7 times in the theater). My dad actually enjoys some of it, I got him somewhat interested in OP, introduced him to Lupin, which he thinks is fun, showed him Utena (which I don't think he got as much out of as I did but oh well), and he was fairly impressed with the little bit of Escaflowne he saw. Oh and Cowboy Bebop. ;) My mom doesn't care for animation except some Pixar stuff she's grudgingly watched on my behalf. Never tried to get her to watch anime. My brother enjoys some of the Miyazaki stuff and maybe something like Eva or Cowboy Bebop, something more cerebral and experimental. My sister never really got into it and I'm sure mentally rolls her eyes that I like it, but she doesn't say much.

I really don't think he cares for the story, he just wants to see the action.
-
My parents don't really care for it, no matter how much I convince them (too civilised for their own good). Though I show manga stuff to my mom and she can always recognise anime on tv, like once we were watching about these foregins who live in japan and she said 'LOOK its those japanese cartoons you love to draw'!
Pretty much get the idea.
edit:
plus, my mom can tell what anime character I find interesting. Mostly thats why I spend my time showing manga to my mom (not anime quite as much).
have no siblings (all the manga to myself).

My family? I think they don't care -neither of comics or cartoons- but I wouldn't even expect them to.
-
my parents think its childish but still they dont mind i wish i cn change the idea about they think its childish <_<
-
My mother is pretty neutral about it I guess. When we're in Japan and we're watching it on tv, she'll watch it with us if she doesn't have anything else to do…. otherwise, she doesn't really watch it but she really doesn't care if I watch it. Manga, I can usually get her to read, especially if it's shonen manga lol. (yeah I found out where I got my love for shonen manga from! :P )
My two brothers like it a lot too. The one in 8th grade likes the same stuff as me pretty much - basically any shonen manga he'll gladly read/watch. The one in 6th grade also likes it but isn't as into it as we are lol. He's still more a fan of korokoro comics (well it's still shonen but I consider it diff. from WSJ) and stuff like that. He also happens to be a huge spongebob fan lol.
-
My dad used to complain about it then it seems he toned down. My mom doesn't really care. My cousins watch it ocasionaly. My aunt thinks it childish. And my other aunt think their works of the devil (i'm an SDA but give me a brake here.).

My parents don't like me to read Manga. They think it's for little kids. But still they still help me buy Manga from Japan when they come over here to visit me. My mom actually bought/brought whole set of One Piece Manga for me (even though I paid her back) so I'm happy with them :)
-
My parents don't really care. . . but personally, I'd rather not watch it in front of them, I get bothered by it.
Don't ask
-
My whole family loves anime but they are classified into certain groups for the genres they like.
Me: All Kinds! (One Piece and Bobobo above all else.)
Dad: More butch action oriented anime (Grappler Baki, Dragonball)
Mom: Fantasy and Magic (FMA, Record of Lodoss War)
Brother: Sports anime and Samurai anime (Slam Dunk, Rurouni Kenshin)
Sister: Shoujou/Action animes (Sailor Moom, Rayearth) -
I've lived out of home for the last 2 & half years, so it's kind of hard to gauge what my parents think of my poser Otaku lifestyle. I know they really dislike voilent and sexually suggestive videogames, so if they saw most of the anime/manga I watch & read today, I don't think they'd approve.
But hey, I'm a so-called 'adult' now, so it doesn't really matter what they think. ;)
-
My family either doesn't know about anime, or doesn't care. That's the way it's going to be for awhile because I don't feel like being the guy who has to answer all of their questions on three subjects.
-
My sister's pretty big into One Piece, but that's about it. Everyone knows about it, and are pretty much okay with it. [rebellious teenager]Hell, it's my life anyway, you old farts!! Ha ha ha!![/rebellious teenager]
However, ever since I got my dad hooked on Monster, he'll read any intelligent or just thoroughly enjoyable manga I can give him. I'm still conflicted on making him read One Piece, though, although my constant praising of it has gotten him somewhat interested.
Oh, and my brother will always watch the more… err, ''cinematic'' kind of stuff. So, just good anime movies or series such as Cowboy Bebop or another.
None of them really see or read ''anime'' or ''manga''... It's just more like more films and literature to them. And I'm totally okay with that, since that's just what it is.
-
Heh, my wife loves anime! Especially Fruits Basket and Chobits, but she always watches One Piece with me. She also likes Spongebob. And porn!
EGX: Er, I shrank my text to make you copy and paste it elsewhere to view. Woot! :P
-
Why do people shrink text. Not like we can't copy and paste elsewhere to view. Anyways, if you get your parent into OP….wouldn't it be odd if they joined the forum too. You'd have to tone down your act (if you're like me, but my parents don't go here, so hah!). It'd just be wierd.
-
My parents don't really care that much about anime. They know I've been watching cartoons and whatnot since I was little, and I'm still into it. They're mostly quiet on the subject unless I'm watching something while I'm supposed to be doing something else.
And my sibling? She's a big One Piece fan now. At first, she didn't even want to give it a chance because of the art, but I somewhat forced her to watch it for making the stupid comment.
-
It seems the most common reason people don't try OP is because of art.
-
Well,I like to watch Anime with my mom though…
She likes OP...sort of.
She used to call Luffy One Piece before knowing his name.
"Hey!Is that One Piece guy?"
"........."
My bro likes Naruto more than OP though... -
My dad calles all animes Tenchu Muro. He remembers that as my favorite anime. Both think it is childish but my dad looked at a few episodes of DB and was amazed. "Holy Crap! This has a plot!" plus in that scene where Ox Kings castles on fire, he said that was beautiful animation. My sisters…well lets steer clear from them. My cousin Philip loves Lupin 3 and my other 3 cousins think it is okay, especially after that Fighting Love episode of South Park.
-
My Mom and Sister don't care, but my mom reads some of my mangas (the apporaiate ones) and my dad watches them with me sometimes too.

oh, you don't know the half of it. he gets excited and flakey at times, and i think that's where i get it. :P he was considering buggy, too. he even asked my mom if she would be up for cosplaying alvida with him. that is, alvida before she gained her devil fruit ability
-
Flakey is alright. Oof, your parents are pretty cool.
-
If you all can believe it, I got my jock, preppie, clone-of-this-annoying-neighbor-kid-who-thinks-he-is-God's-gift-to-humanity brother into One Piece! At first I used it to torture him (He took my computer time away for his 'homework', AKA: Talking to his AIM friends), but after 10 minutes of kicking and screaming, he settled into it. Now he's ASKING to watch it. We're currently on episode 5. :)
-
He is so your bitch now.
-
No… He was ALREADY my bitch, now he's my slave because he doesn't want me telling any of his little friends that he likes One Piece. :D

Maybe you could convince them to watch just one anime, try to choose a really good title like FMA and maybe they'll see that anime is not for kids.
That's what i did with my mom, the two of us are really really close you see, she's my mom and at the same time my bestfriend, i talk to her about everything. I got her to watch Fushigi Yuugi and ever since then, her view of anime has changed totally, she watches everthing i watch, including one piece, her favourite being FMA. God she's really really crazy abouy FMA, she just can't wait for the movie, so everytime i buy a New Box of Piece she goes "When is FMA the Movie Coming Out"
-
I don't know what my parents think, but my sister think it's really boring and that they just zoom in and out on the character and they almost never move. She's never seen the charm of anime, I guess. -_-;;
-
My big brother & big sister likes to watch Lupin the 3rd & City hunter + popular anime movies, but NOT series. My little brother loves all the series I watch (wonder why o_O).
Usually, dad doesn't mind and doesn't watch. But sometimes when he get his eyes on it when we're watching, he think it's too violent or occult.
Mom like it as entertainment and to get a piece of japanese culture. Especially, she likes Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.
My parents love to watch old animes like Sazae-san, Crayon Shinchan & Chibimaruko-chan if i find some new eps on vhs or avi.
-
I'm still struggling with how I feel - fundamentally - about anime. For now, I don't really feel anything different about it than any other form of entertainment that I enjoy.
My brother feels that he is being slowly sucked into it. He feels that by starting to watch anime, he's becoming a dork.
My sister thinks we're dorks. (I believe "Eeeeew, you guys are such dorks" was her exact phrasing.)
My mom thinks, "Is that that One Thief thing?"
I don't know about my dad.

**Whatever gave your brother and sister the idea that by watching anime you turn into dorks. As for me i think it's a hell a lot better than watching stuff like Smallville or Charmed ;)
-
Actually it was my mother that got me into anime in the first place. Her current favorites are Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin, Hellsing, Fushigi Yugi, and Super Milk Chan.

My family doesnt even know what manga and anime is…

I wonder if it is because it's not so big in Sweden yet.
-
My parents and sister are cool with it, and find it amusing. Like they'll always shake their heads in a "Typical" way if I come back from Picadilly Circus with bags of Phonebook Manga (my backissues of Hana to Yume and Shounen Jump) and some tanks that I "couldn't resist".
My parents, my dad in particular, is a big fan of Miyazaki films. He went crazy over the No Face fridge magnet my host family got for him in Japan and my Spirited Away toys, and sounded disappointed when I explained that the No Face big figurine was too expensive for me to buy over there. My uncle is also a big Spirited Away fan, and got me a DVD of Princess Mononoke for christmas on the understand that "She probably already has it, so I can keep it!". My dad has also agreed to go to "Tokyo Godfathers" at the cinema next week because I told him I enjoyed the film a lot. He started to cry when he watched "Grave of the Fireflies".
My mum's a Nursery Teacher and likes to take in stuff like "Kiki's Delivery Service" to show the kids.
My big sister's pretty neutral. When I was younger, she'd watch Sailor Moon with me, and some of her friends like Anime. She watches some Eva, and she likes the Miyazaki films so she'll watch my copies of them. She's less big on the Shounen Jump stuff though.

My grandma(Yes,grandma!)likes anime too much, loves japanese music and love the manga style. She likes One Piece(She loves Luffy!),Shaman King,Yu Yu Hakusho…I always explains many things to her...and always go in anime events with me!
My mom like anime too,but don´t understand maaaaany things about it...Her fave characters are Luffy and Chopper, but she prefers to call they with a nicknames...she simple calls Chopper "reninha"(little reindeer in portuguese)and Luffy is..."agricultor"(like a farmer, you know,´cuz Luffy always use a strawhat and sandals...like the hillbillies in certain points of Brazil...)
Last year, when my mom and I went to a event, the manga store are filled with people around,so mom entered in that crowd and bought One Piece 27(Overture)for me.It was much funny!
-
dont get offended when i say "faggot"… but my family thinks i am a faggot for liking anime i am content with it since my brother and all his friends think i am the biggest pimp for my age even if i do like anime but i would be an even bigger one if i didnt like anime
(just to say my bro is many years older than me)
my parents dispise anime since it has ruined my life. i barely had a social life before but now its starting to go back up since im starting not to like anime anymore -
My parents are 65+ They don't really care that anime exists. It's just another cartoon to them.
My older sister seems to think anime is stupid for all the stereotypical reasons people complain about anime.

Right now I'm like a tottal shut in–dont go out or any thing....thats probably why i sleep alot for entertainment....
-
my older sister got me into anime so she likes it too. so does my little sister my brother like some but he dosent get hooked ohe will watch acouple of episodes of an anime and then start another (he gets board easily) he thinks one piece is stupid though because when i first started to download it he saw the 1st, 63rd episod and some episode in the apis arc. so he wont watch it anymore. my dad doesnt car about anime except he thinks its a wast of money to buy manga. my mom doesnt try to stop me but when i watch but she thinks its stupid and thinks i should do other things with my life and asks me "why do you watch this stuff" or "you cant even understand what their saing starts doing a very bad interpritation of japanese" but besides that every now and then all she really complains about is how i hid in my room.
-
My dad thinks it's stupid, which I guess is true, but my mom's okay with it, even though she has no clue what's going on. I tell her stuff that happens in all the series I watch when I need to talk to someone about it and no one's around, so she knows a few characters. I think she's just happy that it got me to learn how to sew though (yay cosplay). XD
