@Natty:
Wow, you are so sarcastic. Wow. And you assume things quickly no less.
Two points of note:
1. While I am sarcastic, I was actually being serious. In the past, people have taken great offense to the assertion I made that "people watch One Piece because its popular". You are providing me with quality research material, id est, evidence that people dislike certain anime simply because they are popular; following the conjecture that, "One Piece is popular", I can eventually derive an immutable syllogism.
2. I made no assumptions, I made an inductive inference. In my post I provided evidence as to why I thought DN and Akagi were among the worst shows of the year because it's counter-intuitive to think so; in contrast, you are merely stating Haruhi is bad, when opinions are fairly absolute in this topic toward it being good; as such, you needed to provided evidence as to why we should believe you, and as a consequence I cited the more likely situation of you not having actually watched the show.
@Natty:
I watched up all the way to when they were playing some baseball game. Yup. And even then I didnt like it.
That would be episode four, chronologically the most recent of the episodes. I cannot say I blame you for jumping the boat at that point, but you missed a lot, like:
!
@Natty:
I even tried researching it more, because frankly I didnt know what all the fuss was about, and I hate being left out of groups and I was being left out of the "Haruhi iz the shyt!!Lol!!11!!" So I decided to research and found myself on a few forums and fansites, and they all told me that "Only people from Japan, or people who understood Japanese culture would laugh" and then they called me ignorant…..which is basically waht you are doing now.
There's nothing wrong with being called 'ignorant'; such is the lack of knowledge. It's distinctive from being called 'stupid' where someone is actually mentally impeded from obtaining said knowledge.
In any matter, there are no cultural related 'jokes' in the anime that I can think of that a Westerner wouldn't understand. Phoenix Wright has come to American shores and it's fairly recognizable, so the parody was obvious; the same applies to the GUN***, which was a direct parody of Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing, which many people have seen.
@Natty:
And all because I give my own opinion…...thank God for freedom of speech. I love it.
The internet is international ground; not all communities are exactly protected by freedom of speech in the United States first amendment. I do not think what happened to you was justified, though. My sincere condolences (seriously).
