I couldn't find anything on this so here goes:
Has it bothered anyone else that the Devil Fruit user's clother are hardly ever affected?
For example, Sure Crocodile's coat is Pimp. But it shouldn't be able to survive stabs from sharp objects, even though he can turn into sand.
Whenever Luffy gets hit by a bullet, his shirt doesn't have a hole in it.
When Ace turns to fire, his clothes/hat should burn up, Etc.
Do they all have special clothes or what? :blink:
Another example would be Chopper's transformations with his super stretchy pants. I think it's just a manga thing though, although if you asked Oda he'd probably come up with something akin to the 'incredible floaty wood' thing.
I think it did get explained in an SBS why the akuma no mi users clothes aren't affected although I might be mistaken
It's always bothered me that Luffy's clothes aren't affected when he inflates himself or gets shot or whatever.
I guess it would just be too many unnecessary incidences of nude characters if their clothes were influenced.

Personally, I'm perfectly content with the total lack of realism. I mean, your average person can't stretch like rubber either. 
Well, not without the use of complicated torture devices, at any rate.
I remember that there was someone who asked Oda why the needles of Miss Doublefinger don't tear the clothes off. It's just that One Piece isn't porn altough I'm not sure since the last chapters.
I always thought chopper had a thing for fabulous spandex.
Okay, I've been meaning to point this out for a while… Luffy's clothes do not inflate and deflate.
The only, I repeat, only time Luffy's clothes have expanded to match his size is when he went into Gear 3rd in Episode 288.
However, it is more than possible Oda did this purposely to add to the chibi and/or humor effect.
As for the gun hole… errrmm... Normally, a gunshot will just simply unbutton Luffy's shirt.
Nevertheless, that was a fast bullet, and normally, you'd need the bullet to actually move through the target to leave a hole in the cloth.
For example, take some sort of Airsoft gun or any sort of projectile weapon/plaything/pebble/etc. and place a piece of paper in front of your wall. Shoot the paper, and you will see that the bullet will not move through the paper and leave no more than a possible dent in the wall.
Shoot the paper while there is no obstucting force behind it and the bullet will tear it (depending on how fast it is. An actual gun will for sure).
For that matter, all the times Luffy has been shot, it has always been in areas where his skin is close to the cloth. If his shirt was off and someone shot the shirt, I imaging it would leave a hole.
I never said his clothes inflated and deflated; I knew that. (Unless you're talking to Roz.)
And Luffy isn't exactly a wall- it usually shows the bullet strectching his skin out of his chest, (Like the strip above) usually in places that you aren't able to button and unbutton.

It just has to be done. If clothes were effected it then we'd have naked super heroes running around. Just the matter of ignoring it, half assing it (Hulks pants), or coming up with some shit like the Fantastic 4s suits.
this reminds me of Buggy's clothes, u cut it… but it also comes back to normal... specially the pants, it becomes super tight but it gets baggy when its formed back to normal

becuase theres allsorts of dead things in it besides dead Skin cells and hair and Nail clipping from DF USERS 
Mr. 5 can make his breath explode. How does that work? Does that mean Mr. 1 can blow and cut things?
It's not just devil's fruit users though, sanji wears a suit, anyone see where I'm going? Go put on a suit, if you don't have one lying around go try one of them on at JC penney's or something, tell the guy you need a suit for a funeral or something, and try some high kicks in them, the crotch would rip.
Not to mention sanji caught his leg on fire, now I can't remember if the pant leg was all burnt up or not, but I don't think it was, if anyone feels like confirming or proving that part wrong go right ahead though.
It's just a manga/Oda thing, I guess.
Chopper's pants don't get bigger. Maybe stretch a little but so far only Luffy's Gears and when he does Fuusen, but again it's maybe a tiny bit at most, not enough to rip them.
Luffy only stretched his clothes in Gear 3, both before and after.
Chopper's coat stretched as well as his backpacks straps. If you eat a Zoan you probably but clothes that stretch a little farther than normal anyways. Kaku's clothes really stretched.
Also we have seen Logia users and control whether or not their powers effect things. And clothes transform too anyways, at least for Logia users. Crocodile and Enel and Ace and Smoker have all transformed their clothes, and ace fixed his hat with his finger being fire, pure fire. Yet it didn't effect it, presumably because he can stop it from effecting things.
Yeah, when Lucci went LEopard at Iceburg's mansion, his clothes sorta streched out to fit him. With Kaku, you could see other parts of his body because his clothes didn't fit anymore!
