Who do you think is the most unique character in anime/manga?
My pick is Hyatt from Excel Saga. She dies for no apparent reason, but it's funny nonetheless (like Kenny from South Park).

Bon chan all the way!!! I doubt you can find a character more unique than him! I LOVE him!! He is hilarious, sensitive. He can dance just like he can fight! He is a ballerine with hairy legs.
I will always remember the way he sacrified himself for the strawhats ;_;
Takes back my words
Franky is totally unique too! He s the greatest cyborg I ve ever seen. Sensitive, funny and damn HAWT with his speedo! He can dance, sing and play guitar. He knows what the word Love means. And…he drinks coke XD
I think that the characters from One piece are the most unique characters I ve ever seen, and that s one of the reason that makes me love OP so much!
Franky is definitely up there. For a main hero, I think that Luffy is very damn unique.
Argh… my memory sucks, I'll think of some more later.
I'll probably come up with more names later on, but as soon as I saw this topic, I HAD to come in and drop a name:
MAMORU TAMAKURA from Hajime no Ippo.
The Champ, the King, the All Mighty Kuma. He is a force of nature. His personality is undeniable. And he is hilarious as hell. There are things he does, only he could ever do. If you've ever seen even a minute of the guy in action, in or out a fight, you'll know what I mean.
You know what else? I can't ever see him defeated. It just isn't possible in my mind. If he even so much as faces a bit of difficulty in a fight (whish isn't often either, I can tell you that), I begin to question my entire belief system.
It's a bit old, but Gosunkugi from Ranma 1/2 still stays with me as a weird little character. A Shinto priest wannabe who practices voodoo and stalks after Akane, taking photographs. The hell…
There's too many from One Piece for me to get into naming them. Serious, way too many o.o
Well… if you're talking about Ranma, how about Pantyhouse Taro? A dude who can turn into a weird combination of a Yeti riding a bull, holding an eel and chicken in it's hands who's after his old teacher that gave him the name of Pantyhose. That's pretty unique too!

HAHAHAHA! I'd forgotten about Pantsuto!!
Yeah, poor guy.. Happosai dunked him in spring of drowned ape(yeti?) riding a bull with a chicken in one hand and snake(eel?) in the other.
As if that wasn't enough, later in the series, the idiot went back and dumped him in ta spring of drowned octopus… sheesh.
Oh yeah, he was a BIG big freak...
All one piece characters and Frieza from dragonballz.
The entire cast of Azumanga Daioh in their cute humorous glory.
And as far as evil villians… on the merit of being truly interesting villians that are more than just evil bastards, the members of the Genei Ryodan in Hunter X Hunter.
Franky - A friend in disguise as a villian ;)
And Flay from Gundam Seed - She was a main character made to be hated XD and she was really hated.
Babo from MAR - A weapon that lives and can talk XD
Alphonse from FMA - A suit of armour that lives!
Shinmen Takezou from Vagabond is a very unique character to me, granted his character doesn't seem to be very deep. It's pretty hard to distinguish unique characters these days..
One Piece has more unique characters than most other series combined, but the very most unique has got to be Chopper.
I mean, many other series will have the animal character that is a part of the main group, but they rarely have a huge impact on the story. Two that come to mind would be Ein in Cowboy Bebop, who I liked as he was clearly intelligent, but he was just kind of thrown in at points to make the point that the dog was smarter than the rest of them (except possibly Ed), and also there is Ryo-ooki from Tenchi Muyo, who while plenty cute and a big, cool spaceship, again never did all that much compared to the other characters.
Chopper on the other hand is a reindeer, a friggin reindeer, and if that isn't unique enough, he also happens to be an excellent doctor. To top it off he's got crazy unique transformation powers. Seriously, Chopper as a main character is one of the most unique things about One Piece. I just have to get my hands on whatever Oda was smoking when he came up with that one.
All the Characters in One Piece are unique in their own ways.
I also Adore Edward Elric from FMA and Killua/Kurapica from HxH
Granted my anime/manga exposure is somewhat limited in the grand scheme of things, but I'll have to go in for the OP characters, too. Don't see characters like them too often in anime or out of it for that matter. Part of the reason I love it so much.
Also have to cast my vote for Mrs Kurata (Sana's mom) from Kodomo No Omocha. Have to say, I don't think I've yet seen another character that dresses in a kimono every day with a new, extremely elaborate (read: miniature carnival with working ferris wheel) hairstyle every day in which she keeps a pet squirrel named Maro, drives a tiny pink car around her house which she occassionally uses to escape her editor when she goes past her deadline (read: always). If anyone's found another one of those somewhere, let me know, I'd be curious. ;)

Miss Merrychristmas. When someone thinks of an action anime, they don't exactly think of a squat, middle-aged lady with a hip problem that can turn into a mole AND kick two of the main characters' asses without even breaking a sweat.
Fullbody and Jango - (One Piece of course) These guys GOTTA get the vote, I mean, C'MON. Just look at 'em.
Yotsuba - (from Yotsuba&!) Yotsuba is like Chiyo, Tomo, and Osaka combined. A triple threat of cuteness, hyperactiveness, and just plain innocence. That, and green hair! What an adoreable little green haired girl!
Kimura-sensei - (from Azumanga Daioh) A high school teacher who is open about his love for high school girls? Yikes! This guy is just to funny, and weird…

**Yeah, I liked him too. There wasn't much competition, but he was my favorite Ranma villain.

_Eh, I see him the same way I see Zoro.
I'll also add Joseph Joestar. He was like a kickass version of Indiana Jones' dad._
I've only played/seen Pantsuto in one of the ranma 1/2 games I played, so it was actually pretty cool and unique.
Right now I can't think of any unique character because only One Piece characters pop in my head when it comes to originallity and uniqueness, SPEEDO!! yes he's up there too.
think of more characters later…
I think alot of the Full Metal Alchemist character are unique. Espically…ALEX LOUIS ARMSTRONG!
Then of course, are the One Piece characters which are unique. Goes without saying.
I always found Beck and Swartzvald from Big O to be unique. One's a guy in yellow suits that slowly loses his sanity until he reaches the point where he claps his feet together while laughing and the other is a mummified former journalist who discovers at least a portion of the truth of Paradigm City and tries to reveal it to everyone else the only way he could, through fire and violence!
Vegeta from DBZ is a really interesting character in my book.
Zoro definately…The idea to use three swords and to hold the third in his mouth was genius. Noone but Oda would have ever thought of that.

you are the mang. I love hajime no ippo and takamura is definitely one of the most unique because anyone who writes that he rules on another guys cock has to be unique
Raito from Death Note is the more Unique In my mind, he's like nothing I've ever seen before and he's so interesting and in depth.
Its tied between Gantz and One Piece
Gantz is so screwed (blame the Lara Croft look-alike)
One Piece art style and plot are amazing
Kie from Gantz
Robin from One Piece

Maybe someone who's cosplayed as her (that'd be wierd).
Haha, Sana-chan's mother was the best character of Kodocha. Don't get much crazier than that.

Oh yeah! How could I forget her! She had the weirdest hats ever! But she was an excellent mother. Though she was crazy ^^;
Everyone's a little crazy  .
One Piece:
Luffy, Sanji, Zoro, Usopp, Robin and Chopper.
Edward Elric from FMA is pretty Cool.
I also Love, Killua, Kurapica from HxH.
one that i wanna add…
yazawa eikichi from "cameleon". he got through every situation by luck and BSing his way.
ooshi78
Suwabara Kai of Yakitate!! Japan. He just wants to follow the "path of life" and bake good bread, but he's just so freaking scary and hostile that no one believes it. And he has a katana concealed in a rolling pin. That's hot. XD
Chopper's got to be on the list. How many other mutating reindeer doctors that insult you when you give them compliments are there? :P

I couldn't resist reviving this thread after see one strange character: Parco Folgore (from Zatch Bell). Does anyone have a clip of him singing in the dub?
Bobobo from Bobobo-bo Bo-Bobo. What could be greater than having a giant yellow afro where random things come out of it and using your nose hairs as weapons.
Onizuka.
From Great Teacher Onizuka.
I completely forgot his name, Jotaro's classmate in school (in Jotaro's arc , Jojo's bizzare adventure) who has the hirophant green stand
Too many to list!

Noriaki Kakyoin.
definitely all the onepiece characters…oda just has a unique style and it made the characters so unique!
Kakashi from Naruto and Kaku from One Piece are VERY unique in my book.
I always thought that Vash from Trigun was very unique. I don't know why though..
if we're talking about UNIQUE, it has got to be L of Deathnote…L, Ryuuzaki, Ryuuga....whatever his name is...he's the most unique character in a manga!!! well, of course, not to mention Monkey D. Luffy of our beloved One Piece!
One more just came to mind:
WASHU~!
After the last chapter, Wanze certainly deserves to be on the list… I mean, just look at him.
I eagerly await the day he's copied. If it ever comes.
