Hey guys, I thougth of an idea, how about if we discuss something whats the differance between the manga One Piece to anime, because there is many things in the anime that is not found in the manga; people would be wondering the differance and it'll be a good idea if this is pinned
Manga/Anime differance guide
-
-
1. The filler, of course.
2. Bon Kure's writing on his back changed to "Ballerina" from "Okama".
-
Not a bad idea. There indeed is stuff that is in the anime that wasn´t featured in the mange due to space issues. And not everything that appeared in the anime is a bad filler. The best example I can think of is the manga chapter 128 in where Sanji is wearing his jacket in page 9 and having it already taken of in the next page. And all of a sudden Nami is wearing that jacket. Well obviously it would be a waste of pages to include that into the manga but the anime had this little part where Sanji gave Nami his jacket.
What I´m trying to say here is just to put up an example on where stretching scenes in the anime made sense. This is not filler it is just showing events that took place between the panels in the manga.
Well just wanted to start this thread with an example. There´s plenty more stuff I can´t think about right now.
Come to think of it, this thread is indeed an excellent idea because it can prove that not all "changes" in the anime are bad, but that they make sense actually. I´ll be back with more stuff later when I remember it. :D
-
Water Seven will be perfect for that, what with all the things that just seem to happen.
-
This thread should really be pinned.
Anywho, from what I've seen (the dub), the anime goes into more detail in some scenes, such as showing how Sanji saved Luffy from drowning at Baratie.
-
Kreig never fired that Bomb with the Shurunkins in it in the Anime. Usopp's Storytelling had a little visual.
-
I just remember that a few have been covered.
Let's get the undocumented ones here, with pictures if possible.
-
This may sound dumb, but was Ace's tatoo changed 'cause it was a swastika (I don't know how to spell it)?
-
It wasn't really a swastika, but yeah, it was too similar to be included.
-
Zeff didn't eat his leg in the cartoon! That made me sad!
-

**Aftershock never updated that section. I wonder when will the mods pin this post?
-
Alrighty, I've pinned the thread and added a link from my FAQ here. Now, let's continue, ignore me ^^
-
The way Zeff lost his leg is different.
-
I wonder how Zeff survived all that time though…

maybe he ate the left overs of his lower leg since he did get trapped at his ankle or somewhere there? its juz a horrible and disgusting theory
-
This is going to sound really nitpicky but OI! i'm a Pell fan, in the anime they made pell's face markings purple.

Aha, and what color did they have in the manga?
-
Black, and it was confirmed by the cover of volume 19.
-
Indeed, thanks for the info. :D
-
in the manga ace only stays with the straw hats for lyk 1 chapter.. in the anime he stays with them for a bit in alabasta.
i wanted to see more of him… all the other logias seem stronger than ace from what i have seen... i wanna see ace kik that ice dudes ass
-
In the Manga, Zoros friend died, but she actually survived in the Anime.
I can't remember her name; but you should know who I'm talking 'bout.
-
You mean Kuina. She´s dead in the anime too.
-
Yeah, there's even this whole added burial sequence, in the anime. Along with a bunchload of other stuff in Zoro's flashback, like how he stumbled across the dojo, him training continuously etc, and how he left to find Mihawk. They really fleshed that one out.
4Kids cut Kuina's death out, though, so I assume you've been watching the edited English dub, Chibi Zoro.
-
No kidding?! I didn´t know that 4Kids did that. Why the hell did they do that? I mean if they edit blood scenes then somewhere in the fartherst corners of my mind I may find some tolerance for it but editing that someone died (what we actually don´t even see) is plain stupid. I mean what kind of morals are they trying to give the kids who watch that shit? "There´s no death in life" or what?

one thing i have to mention because it will always bug me…
robin's hair and eyes have that blue tint in the anime while oda colors the hair shine white and eyes brown in colorspreads etc. sorry, as a robin fan, i just hate the way the blue looks. :(
-
Anime-manga, well, okay I will tell what I know, but I will exclude what is already in the Anime-manga page in Arlong Park then -
1. Zef didn't eat his leg like he did in Manga for the Animation, but lost his leg during when he tried to save Sanji from drowning.
2. One of Sanji's kick when he fought with Gin (I didn't remember which one though) in anime, he kicked downward while in manga he kicked upward.
3. In Water Seven, after Chopper seperated from Robin, the anime showed the part that he was sniffing around for Robin's scent and found Sanji sitting at one of the dead-end, thinking who is the man with mask that Robin was with when he saw her.
4. Water Seven again, Luffy, Nami, Usopp went up to the front counter for gold exchange first in anime before going to the manager for the evaluation.
5. Again in Water Sever, when Kaku was checking Going Merry, anime showed the part when he really took out some of the planks to look down to the bottom of the ship and Zoro asked him what he was doing.
6. The fourth in Water Seven, when Paulie knew that the Yagara Bull he was on have bags of money and tried to get away, anime showed Lucci came out, touched Luffy at the shoulder and Hattori said that he will be the one who go and get him back.
7. Wreckship Arc, Goat Island Arc, Rainbow Mist Arc, G8 Marine Arc, and the arc that show Luffy's crew losing memory are Filler Arcs.
8. Davy Back Fight have more rounds in anime than manga, which was the Roller Race and the Dodgeball Pirate.
9. Back for another Water Seven, in the anime, Usopp was shown to be looking at one of the cannons in the Dock 1 before he got kidnapped.
10. After the Davy Back Fight, Cherry's owner got back to his own island because he met one of his friend in anime while in manga, Aokiji froze the sea for him to go to the other island.
11. In anime, Luffy's crew met with Foxy again after the filler arc, and helped them from storm but later got tricked by Foxy.
12. In anime, Luffy's crew came to a island and decided to have some barbeque after the filler arc. They went into the forest when Chopper saw something black stick out of a large rock. Thinking that it's a rare plant, he rushed to the rock and found Aokiji.
13. In manga, Aokiji helped freeze the sea for Cherry's owner, but in anime, he froze the sea for the passengers from the ship wreck and strained to the island.
14. Some of the attack are not found in manga, like Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Core, while there was also the attack that can't be found in anime which is Mr.3's Candle Sword.
15. Movies are all filler.I think that's enough for me.
-
Oh, I just thought of one more -
16. In anime, when Aokiji came out of the marine base, the marine headquarter was on chaos for that Aokiji was out again. One of the 5 highest marines then introduced Aokiji from the word that he didn't seem to know what is his position.
-
A few from the Arlong arc:
- The anime shows Moo-moo appearing under the Merry, and builds up suspense.
- The anime has a scene where Arlong is dragged home to Arlong park
- We see some Mini-flashbacks of Zoro "killing time"
- THe anime streches the scene where Nami frees Zoro
- The anime shows how Chuu caught Usopp
- Usopp is lying on the ground, with a knife close to his nose. In the manga, he's standing, and Arlong holds it to his throat.
- Usopp originally is nearly into the water when Nami stops him- in the anime she blocks his way on land.
- Nami does not hit Usopp with her staff after his smoke star. Usopp also faces the opposite way of the manga during the stab, and doesn't fall directly into the water.
- The anime has a shot of Usopp, sinking into the water
- The anime shows Usopp as a "ghost" at the end of the episode where he got stabbed.
- Luffy meets Hatchi, Chuu and Kuroobi before the fights. Hatchi then refers to him as the "Nii-chan who likes to take walks".
- in the flashback, Bellemeres arm doesn't bleed.
- Bellemere is shot in the chest, not the head, and barely bleeds.
- Genzo gets knocked out by Kuroobi in the flashback
- The villagers don't get up a second time, and we thereby lose the Arlong quote: "Your'e right child. Dead people can't pay"
- The anime puts more focus on the first map Nami drew. Also, Hatchi pull it from Bellemeres pocket, instead of finding maps in the house.
- After the flashback, we have a scene where Sanji "wants to take away Nami's suffering."
- When Nesumi comes to take the money, Nami knocks down a lot of marines, and tries to charge Nesumi, who shoots Nojiko, who has stepped before Nami. Originally, he just said "Fire. They're interrupting the work of the marines."
- Genzo doesn't bleed when he grabs Nami's knife
- The march was streched
- Luffy puts strenght into his fist before hitting Arlong. In the manga, he just smacked him right away.
- A few blows were traded between Sanji and Kuroobi before Sanji got distracted, and sent out of Arlong park.
- We have a scene wheere Usopp is fleeing Chuu.
- Hatchi goes in a window and gets his swords, while Zoro collapses. In the original, Hatchi tries to crush Zoro with a pillar, only to get pushed under it himself by Zoro. He then reappears with his swords.
- Hatchi creates a whirlwind.
- Zoro performs Tatsumaki instantly after breaking Hatchis swords. Hatchi does not perform the "Takoyaki punch"
- While performing Mutton Shot Sanji leaps into the air, instead of standing on the ground.
- Chuu looks back once, to check if Usopp's dead.
- We have some talk about humans and fish-mens chances of becoming Pirate king.
- Arlong covers his mouth when saying "What can you do?"
- After the 2nd Shark on Darks, a lot of smoke covers the mystery of how Arlong came out of his vertical imbedment in the ground.
- One of the mini flashbacks in the drawing room was strechted, another cut out.
- After the battle, he see shots of all the defeated enemies a lá Alabasta.
- Bellemere appears as a ghost after the battles.
- The Gosa kid has a longer monologue about accepting loss.
-
During the StrawHats vs Aokiji fight, Luffy used Gomu Gomu Bullet on him in the manga. In the anime, it was changed into Gomu Gomu Pistol. I guess it's because Gomu Gomu Bullet haven't showed up since Arabasta, and is kinda similar to Gomu Gomu Pistol. Toei didn't want to confuse the audience, it seems.

That happens in the manga.

Also in that fight, if I remember correctly, Luffy shatters Ao Kiji once in the anime, and then gets frozen. In the manga he just gets frozen.

In the Manga I have always understood that Zeff ate his leg on the rocky island while stranded with Sanji…. However, I just started watching fansubs not to long ago and I am just past the Don Krieg/Baratie section and in the anime they insinuate that his leg was ripped off by an anchor (purposly) while trying to save Sanji, is just one of those Manga/Anime Differences or am I reading the Manga wrong?
-
Nope, you read right, it's one of the few manga/anime differences. Another one I can think of is Luffy never cut his face with the knife in the anime. And Bon Clay's coat says "ballerina" instead of "okama".
-
Yeah… sometimes anime and manga diffrences are annoying/confusing.
Theres a fair bit tho... one I could never understand was how in Kuro Arc the manga had Kaya's window at ground level where as Anime had ot above... how that changed the plot I don't know. So.. why do it XD
-
I suppose they changed the leg thing because it was too much for kids who would watch the anime. They possibly didn't show the flashback scene where Sanji start smoking as a kid that was in the manga for the same reason.
About Kaya's window… no idea, but Usopp looks better up in the tree XD
-
The Anime targets a generally younger audience….
Thus Zeff does not eat his leg/less overall blood/ etc. -
@Solar:
I wonder how Zeff survived all that time though…
**He ate sanji's eye…...
**
-
@KatanaJon:
1. The filler, of course.
2. Bon Kure's writing on his back changed to "Ballerina" from "Okama".
No.
His coat doesn't say "ballerina" in the anime, it says "Bon Kure."
It's hard to see why such an obvious thing is consistently interpreted wrong… but then again, it's happened with online DBZ and Naruto fandom, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised...:glare:

Allright. Sorry. Just going on the info I gathered.

I can only think of a few
ALVIDA ARC
Manga - this takes place on a small island .
Anime - it takes place on a cruise ship.Anime - When Luffy pops out of the barrel he knocks one of the guys out & from here on in this guy goes on to have a bad spot of luck.

Anime - Zoro goes to jail because Helmeppo threatens the townspeople.Manga - When Helmeppo is gloating about how he intends on executing Zoro
he does it as he's walking down the street.

Anime - He cracks the ground open.Manga Only - there's a scene where Luffy dropkicks Morgan & he backflips in mid-air to land on the ground the backflip wasn't shown in the anime.
Manga - when Helmeppo holds Coby hostage at gunpoint he's holding onto him.
Anime - Coby is standing a few feet away from Helmeppo's gunManga - When Luffy,Zoro, & Coby go to get food they return to Rika's house.
Anime - RestaurantAnime Only - I think when Luffy & Zoro are talking about their boat and Luffy's shows him I think the part where Luffy shows him the boat & Zoro's criticism only happened in the anime
Manga Only - Zoro taunts one of the Marines standing outside
I'm going to put some more on a new page because I don't want this to drag on & on
-
Allright. Sorry. Just going on the info I gathered.
I'm not lashing out at you, specifically, here… it's just one of those things that annoys me to no end, and I'm seeing it perpetuated because a) unless they know it's false, people don't see any reason to doubt it, and b) people are unwilling or unable to fact-check.
This one in particular bothers me even more than people complaining that "Navy" is a bad translation of the term "Kaigun" (which means "Navy"… O.o ).
-
Luffy's past
Manga Only - The opening scene & Luffy stabbing himself in the cheek.
Manga Only - One of Shanks men actually tried to reason with Shanks to bring Luffy along with them.
Manga - When Shanks trick Luffy with the milk this cause Shanks to laugh at him
Anime - Shanks invites everyone in on the jokeManga - you don't really ever find out when Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu No Mi.
Anime - Luffy stumbles across the fruit when Higuma & his men enter the
bar & gets caught by Shanks.Manga Only - When Luffy's sees how Shank's got treated by Higuma he tries
leaving when Shanks tries to stop Luffy his arm winds up strecthing.Manga Only - The next day Luffy goes into town & speaks to some of the people.
Manga - Luffy goes into Makino's bar after above scene for some food & enjoys it til Higuma and his men enter the bar.
Anime - some of this is treated as a flashback while Makino goes to get the mayor.Manga - Higuma originally was going to sell Luffy to a circus
Anime - He decides to kill him.Manga - When Shanks shows up he comes alone.
Anime - he comes with all his men.Anime Only - Shank & his men bidding farewell to the townspeople & Shanks staring & smiling at Luffy
Manga Only - Everything following the 10 year gap since Shanks left
Manga Only - Luffy meeting up with the Sea King although it does appears in the We Are opening as a still picture
Buggy Arc
When Zoro beats up Buggy's men in the manga they have more blood on them then they do in the anime
Manga - Buggy uses the Buggy ball on one of his own men
Anime - Buggy punishes the guy by picking him up off the ground & choking him until he apologizesAnime Only - I think the scenes invoving ShuShu's master were added into the anime
Manga - When Cabaji keeps attacking Zoro's wound Zoro cuts the wound open with his own sword
Anime - Zoro allows Cabaji to cut some of the bandages offWhen Buggy decides to chase Nami their facial expressions are
different in the anime then they are in the mangaManga Only - Nami trying to drown Luffy after he reopens the holes in his hat
-
http://www.arlongpark.com/?page=differences
The site has the Morgan, Buggy, Kuro and Alabasta arcs. I'd be interested in hearing about ones from Sky Piea since I haven't watched it in the anime yet.
-
Yea but they don't have all of them even if their minor
-
No.
His coat doesn't say "ballerina" in the anime, it says "Bon Kure."
It's hard to see why such an obvious thing is consistently interpreted wrong… but then again, it's happened with online DBZ and Naruto fandom, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised...:glare:
I think people say Bon Kurei's coat says ballerina in the anime because that's what is in almost every site that compare the manga with the anime
And Kaigun (Navy) I think is just that people see Marine romanized writen and associate Marine and Kaigun
Back to Topic Manga/Anime differances
The one that I remember better is Portgas D. Ace ShiroHige tattoo being changed maybe because with remember the symbol used by the Nazis
-
I only remember one Skypiea change, though I know there are many many more. The change I recall was some kid throws a rock at Conis's face in the manga, while in the anime he throws a tomato.
-
As I've said to myself about Ace's tattoo being changed it was really stupid
I mean & Lupin III Series 2 there was an episode called "Hitler's Legacy" or "To Be Or Nazi Be" and in Yu Yu Hakusho in both the anime & manga there is a guy who has a swastika tatooed on his forehead, they even got Neji from
Naruto with this crap -
It seems to me that in the manga Luffy and the strawhats had hardly any encounters with the marine which might lead to problems later on - at least before Skypia. If I remember correctly, the only officers in the marine who were attacked by the strawhat-crew were Captain Morgan and Captain Nezumi. And, at least in Morgan's case, the other soldiers were pleased with Luffy's intervention. Maybe, the encounter with Ao-Kiji could also be seen more as a private duel since Ao-Kiji was "not on duty".
I haven't seen all of the anime (and the filler episodes) but they seem to have more serious troubles with the marine.
I really wonder if that fact might interfere with Oda's story later on - about the possibilities of "pardoning Luffy". I don't know how it works in Japan but in some European countries people can get away with semi-legal actions (like during demonstrations, etc.) much better if they avoid attacking government officials.
