I just think its silly to idolize people as much as we do.
GUFFAW
So anyway, when I was coming over here on JET I had to change planes in Detroit. I ended up having the very last seat in economy which is instead of the normal 3 seats, just a double so I would be sitting next to one guy for the entire duration of the flight. Turns out he was also a JET, no big deal since there was like 150 of us onboard. We get to talking and turns out he's from Colorado. For me from good ol' New Jersey, I think it was the first time I ever met a Coloradian. So being fresh out of college, what's the first thing we discuss? "Where'd you go to college?" Well I went to a small private college in NJ that unless you're from Korea or a NJ native, you've probably never heard of called Drew University since our entire class year is basically the same size as a SINGLE class of Rutgers' Bio 101.
This is why I was surprised when he replied, "Oh, yeah I know Drew."
wtf?
He tells me his research partner from field research in Tennessee was a Drew graduate. That was pretty shocking and I was pretty humbled. He tells me she was on the softball team and that's like an immediate conversation killer for me because I never did shit with organized sports in college and despite our small size, was never interested in socializing. I think my circle of friends at Drew was MAYBE 10 people strong. Everyone else I'd call good acquaintances. This is mostly due to the fact that I don't drink or smoke and therefore don't share much in common with 99.9% of college students.
But he tells me her name, 'Deb W.' (name omitted for privacy etc.)
Deb W. was my lab and research partner and the only member of the softball team I even spoke to.
On a plane, I sat next to a guy from across the country that worked with my lab partner from a small private college in NJ.
Insane.
