Moria´s eyes make him uglier than normal and the light green background don´t fit imo. I can even live with the bubble gum blue of NL now. It looks much better than on the photo.

That's awesome. Glad to see Oda delivering for us once again.

I like the cover, but I would have rather had NL be either normal skin color, or grey (not blue, but it's no big deal).

Thanks BF, is it real?
I couldn't imagine what Calipha will be if she ate Giraffe fruit that time. :) -
So, volume 49 has eleven chapters too? Makes me wonder how many chapters volume 50 will have in it.

And #162 BF posted is real.

Just picked up the volume on the way home from work. Will post thoughts as I read through. To start off with:
- I find the bit about Robin calling Nami by her name interesting. Looks like her saying "Nami-chan" in Movie 9 is more than a byproduct of replacing Vivi in Chopper's arc. Of course, it also highlights the need for re-recording of certain lines in the dub, before the Skypiea episodes come out on DVD…
- Some sharp-eyed fans have pointed out that Kumathy resembles the stuffed animal Perona is shown with in chapter 468, and that another zombie shares its name with the "Hippo Gentleman" doll produced by Wapol through his Baku-Baku Fruit powers. According to Oda, this is because one of Perona's hobbies is having Hogback make zombies modeled after her stuffed animals. (One could probably assume that most/all of her underlings on Thriller Bark are that way.) Twisted, yet quite fitting…
- Ooh… the crewmember on Gold Roger's ship who clobbered both Shanks and Buggy during their fight in the flashback from volume 3, was the First Mate (no name given, though). Oda says that he had this planned from the very beginning, and made a point of telling the anime staff not to refer to him as "Captain". (Someone should dig out that episode and check.)
- Odr is a Giant, but especially large even for them (really?) and did not come from Elbaf. Giants inhabit a number of islands, and Odr was from a particularly evil group of them.
- A reader asks if Franky is cold in his Movie 9 getup. Oda was worried about this too when he first saw the drawing of it, and wondered whether to point it out or let it pass. In the end, he decided that the most important thing wasn't whether or not Franky was cold, but whether he's weird enough. (Though as a point of fact, even as a cyborg, he'd be cold.)
- A reader points out the connection among Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard), Edward Newgate (Whitebeard), and Thatch (Whitebeard's 4th Division Commander who was killed by Blackbeard), and wants to know if the real Blackbeard (Edward Teach, a.k.a. Thatch, et al.) was the model for any of them. Oda says that for Whitebeard and Thatch, it was just the name, but Blackbeard was certainly heavily influenced by his real-life counterpart. He goes on to explain more about the real Blackbeard, and even draws a picture.
- The "Captain John" mentioned by Mohji in vol. 25 and the Zombie General of the same name are indeed the same person. He was killed by his subordinates for keeping all the treasure for himself, hence the swords sticking out of him. Thusly the legend of his treasure was born.
- Brook's style of swordsmanship is fencing. I think we probably already knew this, but it's nice to get acknowledgement from the author that such things aren't merely accidents.
- Upon suggestion from a reader, Oda is soliciting SBS banner designs. They have to follow a specific format, and include characters from earlier in the series. Also, Oda will redraw the winning design in his own hand. Submissions should be sent to the usual address for Usopp Gallery Pirates.

Oda doesn't give him a name does he?
FFA would love this guy to get a name, as him being a SBK is a theory
-
Wow, giraffe Calipha is hot…though now I'm disturbed about the thought of Kaku with soap powers.
And about time we get confirmation on Captain John...though Perona's "stuffed zombies" is weird stuff.

Is there only the real Edward Teach on picture or something more? -
@Al!naJames:
I demand scannnnn~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is there only the real Edward Teach on picture or something more?I was looking over 10th Treasure the other night and I saw several pics of pirates drawn by Oda, including Bartholomew Roberts, Anne Bonnie, the Barbarossa brothers and, of course, Edward Teach. Maybe its just a copy of his former Teach pic.
-
Probably. Big pity nobody translated that page about real pirates in treasures :<
-
Awesome! JojoHot scans without the watermark! Wonder what's up with that.
-
That huge cover looks awesome. I can't wait to get my hands on volume 49.
-
lol ….giraffe Calipha!!
HAHA...thx for the Cover and infos -
Giraffe Calipha looks awesome..
I wish Nami had to fight that. xD And Kaku SOAPED Zoro's swords x)
-
Dammit, I badly want to know what Oda uses to color these things! I can barely tell what the covers are done with! Other than that, not so cool with the now neon-blue Nightmare Luffy, but Zoro's disgruntled expression makes up for that.
-
Thanks a bunch for the infos SaiyaJedi. I never even knew about the Thatch alias.^^
-
i love that cover O_O its the best one…
its interesting that of captain john and also the vice captain of gold d roger crew
-

He colours (as well as the most of Mangakas) with markers. Copics, I belive.
-
Ah, thanks. It just threw me off with how some of the early volumes (like vol. 2) looked like they were done with marker, let the later volume covers look more…I dunno, airbrushed, or something, like Luffy's face on vol. 36, I think.
-
No-no, I
m 100% sure they are markers. Some of his non-OP artworks looks like they
ve been coloured on computer though. -
Non-OP artwork? The only other things from him I've seen outside OP was those Early Years stuff, Wanted, and his Dragonball pic.
-
BUWAHAHA! Yurusu Maji Mask performs a flying dive and Pandaman runs for it!
-
Thank god Kaku eats ciraffe fruit… Look at poor califa, no no no... Thanks Oda, thanks! Almost maked op lame... NamiVSCalifa fight is one of best ones, but ciraffe style... noooo... Glad he made his mind about soap fruit..
-

Inside each cover of the manga there`s a picture (portrait) of a random person. Old men, guys dressed as girls, cute females… And there was more in artbooks, too.
Alot of the guys here use thouse pictures as avatars. -

Hmm.Thanks-though recently, the SBS apears to loose its "fizz"-I mean, why the heck did Oda even bother to bring up the fencing-and also, the BB related question, didnt he tell us already?Like last one, where we got a question if T-Bone was a general zombie (and a prety non-sensicall and non serious answer to that as well).YEAH like anyone suspected that.
Vice Captain is nice, but thats about it.
I mean,it wouldve been worth it,if we at least learned the name of Oz's island, clan ,past or SOMETHING.Like this, its kinda-we dont learn anything new excpet that Perona's "quite" zombies were made after her stuffed dolls.
I ask thee,of ALL posible questions, like the names of Spandines CP9,Spandams CP5,Tom's Judge, any of the Zombie Generals names (I originaly had more, but Im in a hurry right now),isnt that, uhm, the LEAST interesting?
-
Maybe noone figured out a question where Oda doesn't have plans for the answer to be important in the story already?
-
Some really nice Ussop Gallery pics this time around, particularly the winner (paper collage of Brook and Laboon), a couple nice ones with Cindry and Perona and…that one with Blackbeard controlling the world just seems so much like a final volume cover.
-
Yaaay thanks for the pics <3 Haha, Edward Teach drawn by Oda looks amusing XD
I wish there was a bit higher quality of that BB fanart .o. Im sure there will be as soon as the whole volume scan comes out :3 Or maybe I just should go and buy it right away~ Can somebody please scan the inner picture of the cover since we
ve been talking about them?
And please translate the whole question about Teach please~~~~~? .-. *puppy eyes -

While stupid questions are stupid questions I think Saiya left out some of the interesting bits on purpose just to get to the meat of the matters but he answers many of those questions in a special 'Oda Way' that's very funny.
-
I notice that there is no "SBS for the voice actors", I guess Oda was joking with us last volume.
-
No, it's coming.
He said he's got lots of questions from readers but needs some time to clear 'some adult things' first. He also says there's way too many serious questions and we should send them the same kind of stupid questions we send him.
-
