You'd have to be a bone-head to not tell he got stabbed.
Especially when you see Gan Fall falling with a spot of fire on his chest where he got stabbed.

Late to the party, but I have to say Aisa's voice is so adorable, I think it's already much better than her Japanese VA. She's got that whole Sassy Cuteness going on.
I'm sorry, but that scene did look pretty horrible. Shura just gets close, and then Gan fall falls with the fire "stab" mark. The Chopper says "OHH NOES!! He's falling!!"
Even dubbies noticed something was up with that scene. But still. It's a big improvement from Funi's horrible Bellamy scenes.
So I really didn't care
I'm really questioning your intelligence right now.
Shura's lance produces fire, you see him closing in with the lance pointing straight at Gan Fall, you see the impact scene which is only missing the tip of the lance coming out of Gan Fall's back, and then you see the fire stab mark on his chest.
All without a single flash.
It's completely obvious that he was stabbed. Again, you'd have to be a bone-head to not tell what happened.
As for Naruto's "Believe it"…. that was in the original. It just shows how stupid a fanbase is and how people don't care and just want to shut them up. Also, I doubt anyone from FUNi besides Mato comes here because, well, look at all the weekly bitching. I know if I worked on the show, I wouldn't wanna bother with this stupid shit.
lol. This is why I just cant take you seriously. Datebayo doesnt literally translate into "Believe it!" You fail to realize that. Not to mention that Datebayo is a much more common and natural sounding way to end sentences in japanese than screaming "believe it!" at the end of sentences ever was. That being said, I liked believe it because it was a conscious attempt to carry over every little aspect and character quirk from the original version into the american version. If only, Funi took the same care with OP's dub script.
Buuhan, I really hated the delicious line. It was too cheesy for me, which might be fitting since Sanji says cheesy things from time to time, but it was especially disturbing because it wasnt just a completely unecessary script change. It was obviously changed to cover up Sanji's attack name. Funi doing this makes me wonder if they're consciously avoiding using the foreign attack names because american audiences just hate to hear anything that isnt in english for some reason. Pretty sure this is the sole time Sanji does that attack, too. Not to mention the line wasnt a content edit or a 4kids name change so it'll probably stick around, even in the uncut dvds.
They've already left in Robin's attack names… So how can you even say that?
You can't accuse FUNi of "doing that" when they've only done it... once?
People these days... I swear.
I'm really questioning your intelligence right now.

It's completely obvious that he was stabbed.
I KNOW he was stabbed. But they didn't show it.
If you didn't already know what was happening, it would be difficult to tell.
Just like alot of dubbies had no clue what happened when Roshio fell out of the window.
They were like, "I don't get it" and "was that some kind of joke"? "what just happened?"
I've even heard people say "I hate the angles in One Piece" "You can't ever see what's happening"
No it wouldn't
For the reasons I've listed above.
With Roshio it's a bit different since we didn't see Bellamy's kick actually connect with Roshio (as in the original actually), but with this you clearly see Shura crash into Gan Fall with the lance thrusted into him aflame.
I disagree. As dubbies have already been confused, and stated that it appeared to be some kind of noticeable edit.
And no, you don't see the lance actually get thrusted into him.
Whether or not people picked up on the fact he was stabbed, it did look awkward as hell. Such a mighty lance only going in a few inches when being hit at full speed?
Censoring it's impact made Gan Fall look a bit wimpy. It's just as bad as flashing if not worse, in some ways.
But all this really doesn't matter anyway, IT'S NOT GONNA BE IN THE DVD ANYWAY.
Ohh, I'm not complaining personally..
Just pointing it out.. And I loved the "delicious" line. It was great improv on Funi's part.
@Lobster:
I disagree. As dubbies have already been confused, and stated that it appeared to be some kind of noticeable edit.
And no, you don't see the lance actually get thrusted into him.
I'm not going to waste anymore words on you then, Lobster. Although, for what it's worth I was watching the show with a few freinds that day and they all could tell that he got stabbed. And they've never seen that episode.
So it really isn't a hard thing to pick up.
Once again, it wasn't me personally who couldn't pick it up.
I'm just saying you don't have to know what really happened to know that in the edited version he got stabbed.
And I'll leave it at that.
"De~licious~!" is better than "Concasse" ever could be.
Now you're just pissing me off. I completely disagree but you're welcome to ur opinion I guess. I found the speech so "on the nose" and obvious it irked me alittle. And it didnt help that the finale of the whole thing was that cheesy line. And the speech itself was delivered well but could've been so much better. I wanted Vale to lower his voice to make it sound cooler/smoother like he has been doing once in awhile for Sanji's dialogue but he didnt.
And whether you like it "better' or not, this is the only time Sanji uses that attack. Just for consistancy and knowledge sake they should atleast mention the name of the friggin' attack. They could easily have him shout the name outloud and internally say the "delicious" line and it would've worked better! Now Sanji has this completely unnamed attack that shows up in alot of the games and such. When Sanji uses Diable Jambe for the first time, let's just have him shout "I'm feeling SPICEY tonite!" and never actually acknowledge that there's an actual term for the move being used. Also I don't get how sooo many people go on and on about how whatever Oda-sensei writes in the series goes, then Funi completely throws it out, resulting in a completely different mood for a scene like this and people just go "uhhh…I guess Funi made it better!" I never expected a carbon copy of the japanese version but I dont want liberties with the original script in every goddamn episode and so far that's what Funi is giving us the further they go in.
And honestly, when I watched the episode I had no idea what Shura did to Gan Fall. They just flash at his back, you see flames and some kinda impact then they cut away in an instant. It's happened a couple times during the fights, it takes me a minute or so just to figure out what the hell happened from context clues since the scene is so chopped up. I mean that Big Knife one was done okay but alot of the edits, it's honestly dizzying to watch. You just see close ups of a body part, a character yells, and the scenes jump around alot. It's hard enough to tell what the hell just happened, let alone enjoy the action. I cant even imagine them getting through the Ener Vs Luffy fight this way!
You'd have to be a bone-head to not tell he got stabbed.
Especially when you see Gan Fall falling with a spot of fire on his chest where he got stabbed.
Yeah, you can tell he probably got stabbed but like, three scenes later when you see his body. In the actual moment you just kinda go "HUH?" And I've seen this episodes before, so it's easier to piece it together. I can imagine if I was a first time viewer, I'd be REALLY annoyed. Especially if I was a young kid.
Also I dont see why Aisa's dub VA didnt get the role of Chopper. She sounds alot more natural as a cute young kid. You dont need to sound sickeningly cute to play CHopper.
Peoplez these days. What a loss.
Ao Kiji, the only clue you need is the before scene with Shura closing in with the lance at the ready directly pointed at Gan Fall. That right there should be a direct indicator that he's going to stab/impale/penetrate (lol) Gan Fall with the lance.
At any rate, they weren't going to keep the impalement. It should've been expected that that was going to be edited. I, for one, thought they handled that the best they could. Which, to me, was handled nicely.
Also, let's look at the good: Sanji's kick was left in (the impact I mean). That could mean that the impact edits are letting up.
RomanGod, I get what ur saying. But there's a big difference between knowing what's happening in a fight scene and it looking cool.
I understand they cant show impaling scenes but simply showing character recoil from blows isnt like a huge order, considering they show flesh tearing of a character's exposed skeletons in Naruto. I mean, even though Satori's teeth shatter, it's in more of a comical way in the first place. I don't think I've ever seen teeth shatter in a completely serious way in an animated show. Ever.
After seeing the fights with the Impact Dials completely unedited on CN, I had just hoped we'd moved past this riciculous level of edits for One Piece. The fights honestly, aren't enjoyable to watch this way. They're momentarily confusing and disorienting on a regular basis. I'm just stating that whoever is in charge of what gets allowed in this show…I just wish they'd lighten the hell up already. And it doesnt help that Funi's "improved dialogue" never really improves the scene. That "punch he'll never forget' line was glaringly bad.
Satori reeling back was most likely cut because FUNi didn't want to edit the blood in that scene. They've done it before, like with some shots of Chopper (where he had a lot of blood on his face) in the previous episode.
Naruto can do a lot of things in the network other shows can't. I think it's about time to stop comparing it to a show that gets special treatment by the network. It sucks, yes. But it's how it is.
The Impact Dial scene should have never been an indicator for that seeing how that "hit" never connects.
But again: Sanji's kick connected.
The characters recoiling and doubling over in pain is a constant throughout the entire series. I dont think I've seen a single one of those scenes make it onto CN. In all those scenes, they usually spew abit of blood, but like I said, they're a trademark of how this show does action. If Funi is the one choosing to completely leave them out, they should've agreed to handle this series in the first place.
The cool factor of the scene wasnt so much the kick itself it was Satori's reaction to the kick.
Got a problem with the dialogue? Go to a con and tell Eric Vale. This is third time I've said this now.
Let's all remember these episodes were probably dubbed months ago and if FUNimation–which has other titles to work on besides One Piece--gets around to it the DVDs will be 'fixed'.
Yea.. Naruto is an exception. In the last episode "fake Kabuto" ripped his heart out his heart and squeezed it until it exploded.
And also, yes. The action scenes doen't look cool anymore because of the edits.
Example: Bellamy and Roshio, Sarquees and Marshira, Chopper and Shura, Nami and White Barrets, Shura and Gan Fall.
These scenes originally looked cool in the original. But now they were cut up, and didn't look cool at all.
Just something to think about.
I don't want anyone to get mad but why the hell are we arguing about the TV dub? This version will never see a dvd release. The only one that matters is the uncut dub. If there's problems with that then lets go crazy with complaints. Also stop arguing with Charagon. Trying to win against Charagon is like trying to break a brick wall with your bare hands, it ain't gonna happen. He'll never change his opinion on anything or stop arguing(And him complaining every week is annoying).

This. ^
I think the show is doing fine for the TV version. I sure as hell didn't expect Sanji to start using French attack names. It's a Y7 show. Now, when the uncut episodes come around, I'll sure as hell be expecting them.
The same goes for all the violence.
Just wait for the DVD box sets before you throw temper tantrums.

…You didn't expect Sanji's attacks to be in french because it's a children's show? That makes no sense whatsoever...
But you have a point about people complaining too much. On the other hand, they SHOULD point out the flaws in the dub, as FUNi is actually reading our discussions on the episodes, so if they notice that we're unhappy with something now, they might fix it when the DVD comes out. However, if we only complain about it once the DVD is out, THAT would be pointless, as it would be too late to fix it at that point.
Might as well say I posted in the FAQ thread what appears to be Vale's email so write away!

How so? How many kids understand French?
And that hasn't stopped Funi from re-releasing DBZ seasons with fixes fans demanded. It's never too late for Funi.

What fixes? The dub is still horribly inaccurate, the voiceacting still sucks, the video-quality is worse than ever and they've cropped the video. Their old singles were A LOT better than the new releases will ever be.
And on the Sanji's french attacks-thing: How many JAPANESE children understand french, spanish, english and whatever other languages there are in the show? Did that stop Toei from using them? No, it didn't.

Haha, no reason to sound so angry.
I thought they sorta dubbed it better. And added the original scores. Either way, the point is, it doesn't stop them from releasing and re-releasing.
On Sanji's attacks: Continuity with the 4Kids dub.

Oh god.... that's too good... HAHAHA... You should... be a Comedian... HAHAHA...haha...ha
Thanks, I needed a good laugh

Cut me slack, I haven't watched DBZ in two or three years. That's what I hear.
They changed ALL of the Dialogue pretty much, caused all of the Characters to go DRASTICALLY OOC, and had Vegeta say such Stupid things as "Great Galaxies Kakarott!!"
It makes me Giggle every time I think about it XD

For serious? Ouch.
I'd be funny if "Wyler" was originally a typo due to the P and L being right by each other. It was Wyper in one 4kids game, and Wyler in another.

What have people been complaining about when it comes to edits in the tv version, though? When they flash the hits.
Now that they left in the hit, you guys find something else to complain about and completely ignore the fact that they very well left in the impact from that kick. The very thing most of you guys were worrying about in the first place.
…
It's true what they say about anime fans: Sometimes you just can never please them and they'll surely find something else to complain about.
Well I know I'll be watching the series with the same enthusiasm

You can't please anyone ever. Period.
Well Roman I'm quite pleased so you do not have to worry about me being like that.

It's nothing to think about. Hopefully they'll just ease up. With Sanji's kick being left in, hopefully they're heading that way.

Sure there is
Hopefully they'll just ease up.
That's what we're thinking about
With Sanji's kick being left in, hopefully they're heading that way.
Still, it wasn't shown from the front. Just the back.
The only seem to show hits from the back.
Example:
Chopper vs. Shura
Shura vs. Gan Fall
Sanji vs. Satori
But I'm actually ok with that now.
Now that's what I call overreacting. The scenes didn't look THAT bad

This is amazing. In a single paragraph you reiterate my exact view on everything TV dub related and then turn around and suggest that I'm unreasonable.
Although, as far as insults go, "Trying to win against Charagon is like trying to break a brick wall with your bare hands, it ain't gonna happen." isn't that bad. If I thought you meant it in a positive way, I'd take it as a compliment.
Ugh, yet again with the "let's take a shot at Charagon without actually reading his posts"…. Is this becoming some sort of trend?
Ugh, yet again with the "let's take a shot at Charagon without actually reading his posts"…. Is this becoming some sort of trend?
Meh. I really didn't think that one was all that bad or unreasonable.
Arguing with me in all probability won't get you anywhere and I am not one to easily change my opinions. I do typically find something worthy of complaining about every week and I can see how people would be annoyed by that. I myself am continually annoyed at the trivial crap concerning the TV dub only that gets bitched about.
The only thing that gets me is when people act like I'm the only one making complaints every week or that I treat every minor flaw as a deal breaking travesty, in which case the "take a shot at Charagon without actually reading his posts" mentality does seem to take effect.
Well, I guess so.
It's just this taking shots thing ends up sidetracking/frustrating conversations that otherwise are going fairly smooth. And I use the term "fairly smooth" loosely.

President.^
That is truth. Honestly, rewatching the scene made me feel as if that speech butchered one of my favorite scenes in the series. I kinda played in character with Sanji saying something idiotic, but the deep low menacing and frightfully descriptive talk of meat tenderizing with the move line after it felt so…perfect.
Delicious just sounded like a tiny throwback to the cooking pun Sanji of 4kids. "Rump Roast Wrecka!"
How so? How many kids understand French?
I thought Robin used her Spanish named attacks in this version?
Reading this topic, I know the inevitable "UNCUT DVDS!" will be thrown. Regardless, it doesn't stop the general Anime fan dub cringing to stop for this version.
DE~LICOUS! (Ew.)
Hey guys, just a warning. I got a PM requesting a lock for this topic because it's nothing but pointless arguing and bickering. If it gets any more outta hand, it's getting locked. Be civilized, people.
DELICIOUS!
