I was wondering if it were possible to create a section where the mambers can use a different language. It could prove to be beneficial such as other members learning different languages.

A swedish section!
-
If it should be anything I would like to post in, it must be a general chat, "speak/learn japanese" sub-forum. B) I think we should try avoiding any other non-english subforums.
-
I would say a general other languages forum where you can post in any languages you want. However, that might make it difficult to mod.

I'll second that, some of us probably wouldn't understand what the others are saying. Which means they can post anything.
- They'll be able to bash characters.
- curse as much as they wish.
- bash all the mods and admins.
- bash all the members.
And the list goes on.
-
Dammit, I didn't think of that…
-
i wouldn't mind a japanese section, but are there enough japanese speaking people to open one?!??!

They could just translate the page using Google Translator

That would be an awful lot of work, having to translate every post to make sure it follows the guidelines. Also, I have yet to find a translator good enough to catch every insult, especially when insults vary from language to language.

I agree, the poor Mods have enough work monitoring this forums already. :)
We can't possibly expect to burden them anymore. :lol:Solar Knight, your idea was really good, please don't feel bad. What better way than to interact with people in other languages. It's too bad that some people just can't stick to rules and love to bash, etc, etc.
-
It sounded good at first but when thought is put into it, it's not as great  .
-
Only make a forum for those nationalities who has a lot of members here and then make one of them a mod for that forum ? Maybe..
I just woke up. My head is screwing me over. <_< -
Actually I wont mind that, If you happen to understand that language and you spot someone doing something against the rules, you could use that report button or just PM us.
-
Smart. ^^
-
I support the idea, after all AP is somewhat international. But there're only two finns on the board though, me and Riksu, so… yeah.

Like this maybe?
Just a suggestion. :P And the attacks and names are based on the swedish manga. -
Gummi pistol?! That sounds yummy :D .

Don't those guys have a forum? Although i would probably prefer to have a swedish forum here :D
Btw, "smocka" annoys me…
-
Smocka annoys me too..
Yeh.. They've got a forum too.. I was a member there before.. But.. Um.. I don't go too well in swedish forums.. ehm.. I got banned. <_<
-
really?
what were you calling yourself at onepiece.se ?
and how the hell did you get banned :P
i mean at onepiece.se you dont get banned unless your a major asshole and i just dont think you are that much of an asshole.

Uchiha
Quite a long time ago. I bitched around. Said what I was thinking.. Shit like that. >_> -
It was just a suggestion. I don't think we need other languages here. I'm better with english than swedish. :D
-
Same here. Forget the words in swedish. People get so annoyed with me.
"Vad heter det på svenska nu igen.." -_- -

what does it mean?
i don't like the idea of an other language section (parce que l'on peut ecrire toutes sortes de saloperies sans etre compris, ce qui n'est pas vraiment bon esprit) but a "learn japanese through op raws" thread could be interesting.

and since there's still just a two finns here..I thought more would pop out now that there is the Finnish publication but I guess not.
Yeah, true. It would be unfair to the others. While I still don't have nothing against it, it really doesn't matter to me. Although it might be one of those little things that could attract more members but, as the things are right now, I enjoy the quality over quantity of Arlong Park.

<– for those who don't understand, i just praised his avatar and don rosa. It's pity that Don Rosa is so underappraised everywhere but in Finand. Yeah, that guy is the king. (Niin ja, taitaapi olla että nopeat syövät hitaat :P)

it the most certainly is. but then again, in here he is praised probably the whole world's worth. maybe that's why he likes us so much.
(pöh. ja minä kun luulin ettei kukaan saisi samanlaisia ajatuksia ennenkuin ehdin itse toteuttaa niitä) -
No offense but… The finnish langugage looks kinda strange.. :D
-
I think we had the idea (at least for Japanese) in old forum, but ended up just saying create a thread in General Board. I don't see much use of it anyway, only what, omae, ooshi, sera, Stephen, and me knows Japanese?
From seeing site referer to my site, I see One Piece related forum in French, Arabic, Thai, and bunch of other languages I can't tell, and they're all pretty active. So why bother creating a special board here with probably 10 or less people in each language?
FYI, you can go to the following place for learning Japanese:
http://forums.sigh.org/viewforum.php?f=12&…b1a7bc694ff5013
http://www.livejournal.com/community/correct_nihongo/
http://www.livejournal.com/community/correctjapanese/
http://www.animelyrics.com/forum/board_show.pl?bid=8
http://forum.saiyaman.info/index.php?showforum=14I used to be active in AnimeLyrics, but recently I check LiveJournal more often. I haven't really checked out SnoopyCool one, but I know the care taker (rp) and she's a nice girl. Saiyaman… I just added because I remember seeing it ^^;
It's much better to ask Japanese question there and get more replies than posting here and only get limited answers...
but a "learn japanese through op raws" thread could be interesting.
I'm sure if you post in the chapter thread, one of us will answer… Or maybe that's a good idea to have one thread for all op raw Japanese questions :D But strictly related to One Piece questions only...
But yeah, modding a language that you don't know much about is HARD. I have a German scanlation group (o.o; ) but I just asked others to take care of it because... I'm forgetting my German  I used to use http://freetranslation.com a lot to read others' posts and post my replies though. That was too much of work :/
-
XD That's difficult… but i think our members are mature enough ;) and they can report to us if there are any mis-behaving ones..
-

heh, none taken. guess it may look quite odd to those not used to it.
but seriously, you mean that other people can actually SEE inside the Magic Brackets Of Finnish People?!

Buy books or take classes instead. It's much better in my opinion.

I think a language section would make it a bit difficult to handle things for the moderators. Just easier to have the members who understand the language and report if those members are being a bit cheeky. Plus theres always world.altavista.com to help translate some text.
thanks oceanizer for the links. I found the livejournal entry helpful since I've always been curious about the way japanese say and spell their slangs/nonsense (like we do such as ginormous and huggy).

Buy books wouldn't help, you still need some native or fluent speaker's input :P Many people at LJ is taking Japanese class, and still ask questions there… I guess it's good extra help since some of us reply assap if we're around :)
-
so what's the verdict on this? is it ok to post something in another language without translation? i kind of want a "offcial answer" cause it seems like some of the mods are saying one thing and others are saying something else. are we gonna try this "if you understand the language and the post isn't cool, report it" thing?
ooshi78
-
naaahhhh no diffrent language section, someone could have strange ideas like writing sex stories.
-
English forever. if other languages are around you will need mods from every country to look after the threads plus you will need money :P :P
-
I say make one thread for each language (if there's enough demand), and limit the language in that thread. Posting in random language in public thread where most of people wouldn't understand would make other people unease especially if the post is spam-ish.
-
Come to think of it, I'm with ocean. Until we get a lot of these threads, I don't think we need a seperate forum for this.
@ooshi78: We haven't heard anything from the admins and I think all members should refrain from posting in other languages without translation unless they are posting in a specific language thread.
-
Yes! One thread for every language. I like that. -nods-
-
i think it's kind of funny that japanese is a "random language" in a manga message board.
ooshi78
-
It was just a figure of Speech <_<
Anyway, since not a lot of people understand and can speak japanese well, I don't think we really need a seperate board. That is of course, what I think. The admins will have tje final say.
-
I speak spanish havent seeing another person that speaks it do hmm….
