@Lobster:
K-F doesn't do this…
Yes they do. Especially with calling them "Marines. K-F is responsible for other groups doing this.
@Lobster:
How is that lazyness? They are doing this for free.
When did doing anything for free = not being lazy? Didn't know you had to be paid to be lazy.
SHIT, I WANT IN ON THAT DEAL!
@Lobster:
Plus, they even caption the meanings.
No they don't. Nakama was given an explanation once. That was it. "Oi" and "yosh" go untranslated virtually all the time. "Ossan" was translated once and it was expected that everyone got it that one time.
@Lobster:
Official companies don't even do that for possibly foreign terms.
Most companies don't follow the practices K-F does, as that would be unprofessional to throw random ass Japanese terms in an English dub.
@Lobster:
Now that's lazy.
No, it isn't.
@Lobster:
K-F only did that because of the dub used it in the first place.
…What?
@Lobster:
That was before Oda told us that there was a difference.
No, that's called poor translation. Mermaid in Japanese in "Ningyo" (人魚). Oda changed it to "Gyojin" (魚人). One has to not only take into consideration of the word Oda used, but also HOW it's used. "Ningyo" relates to merfolk, creatures with upper human bodies and lower fish bodies. However, since "Gyojin" is basically in reverse (人 can be read as either nin- or -jin, depending on where it's placed), Arlong and his crew are basically fish with human qualities as opposed to Merfolk being humans with fish qualities.
@Lobster:
They were trying to translate it into a more english term. See?
And it didn't work as they mistranslated it.
@Lobster:
That's the reason why they leave somethings and don't translate them in the first place. Because of possible instances like that. Make up your mind. Do you want them to translate the terms or not?
I've been saying they SHOULD translate them. Them not being able to properly translate it isn't Oda's fault.
@Lobster:
But there is a difference. Fan-subbers don't have to filter things out to make it more acceptable for various societies. They generally give more accurate name translations as well. (well… atleast the ones I use)
"Prince of Retardia"
Also, it's because of certain fansubbers that cause problems with dumbass fans who take their word for everything and shoot their mouths off at dubbing companies for not doing things the way fansubbers did.
It's annoying hearing some people constantly bitch about "OMG FUNI IS USING GUM GUM INSTEAD OF GOMU GOMU NO! SHIT SUX!!!1" in certain video comments.
