…damn...well there goes the last piece of my childhood
I knew it that would happen when started to appear those live-action shows in the channel. Damn, now I miss more CN when it used to broadcast Cow and Chicken and Johnny Bravo.

"Steve, I've been here for a bunch of years now, and the first thing I heard when I arrived was that Time-Warner couldn't have two animation divisions, that we were going to merge with Warner Bros. Animation. We're still here. It's true that the division is being retooled and reworked. We haven't been doing well in the ratings, like we're a distant third after the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. But we've got several different series going, Out of Jimmy's Head, Foster's , Chowder, Flapjack, Transformers, Ben 10 and some new series in development. But no question that we're going through changes…"
"…The new head of the division is doing analyses of what kinds of shows we'll be doing, seeing if we'll do more live action, since the Disney Channel is being real succesful with their live action shows and movies. But we're still in the cartoon business..."
if Adult Swim still gets to stick around then I'd be all for it
…but it looks like they're really just doing more godawful RENOVATION
willToonami stay though? :(
Maybe instead of branching off to terrible new things they should focus on what made them popular in the first place
I still can't believe that the original LOONEY TUNES aren't being aired on any station. Not even on Boomerang, what the hell.

yeah because the only Looney Tunes franchise that is airing is Baby Looney tunes(Ick!)
THere also the Ben 10 live movie…
what is TV coming to these days!?
I knew Cartoon Network was dead as soon as all those live-action movies began airing.
When a channel dedicated to animation begins airing live-action movies and shows, in my eyes, that's never a good sign.
I hate the idea of Cartoon Network making live-action shows. Cartoon Network. CARTOON Network. For CARTOONS. Is it that hard to understand? They're already going downhill, I just hope they don't become another Nickelodeon.
i say replace it with a toonami channel! XD (dumbest request ever)

[sarcasm]It's too racist and violent for Cartoon Network. I mean, come on, Elmer Fudd stalking Bugs Bunny in practically every episode?[/sarcasm]
At the very least, they could put Freakazoid back on…
…are you sure Looney Toons doesnt air on Boomerang because I watched them on there as little as 3 months ago at my Uncles house.
Of course they could have removed it in 3 months. But thats just silly.
I shall now crosspost what I said in the "Ben 10" thread…
Cartoon Network is becoming the next G4… G4 became the next MTV...
Why is it appearantly so difficult for cable networks keep their namesakes?
In all honesty, I've felt Cartoon Network has always been flawed, if it's not one thing with that network it's another... In the mid-late 90's they had some awesome cartoons, but they showed "Scooby Doo! Where Are You?" 5 times a day...
It's not a bad cartoon... But when I see it 5 times every day I start to get sick of it...
And speaking of repeatedly showing things... Who here remembers "June Bugs"? Where they would show nothing but Bugs Bunny cartoons throughout the month of June?
That aside, I'd like to see Cartoon Network bring back some of it's older shows...
The only thing I like about Cartoon Network now is "Tom & Jerry" and Classic "Pokemon" episodes... (Though I still watch the "Diamond & Pearl" series when they show new episodes...)
As far as Ben 10... I find it an alright show... It's got some corny moments, but also some decent fight scenes...
Okay, Since that time, I've grown a re-liking for Toonami… But I still think [AS] isn't very good…
Pokémon USA essentially gave Cartoon Network exclusive rights to air the Pokémon anime... I wonder where it'll go if this rumor turns out to be true...
@Anime:

I had Boomerang at my house about a month ago and the only Looney Tunes I saw were of the Baby variety
"Baby Looney Tunes" was an abomination that didn't deserve contemplation much less existance…
Some of the newer cartoons aren't that bad in my opinion, but they really should try airing some of their older series once in awhile instead. Looney Tunes, Jabber Jaw, the old Cartoon Cartoons, insert name of every other cartoon that CN once aired that was actually GOOD at some point, etc.
Maybe then they’d get good enough ratings to stop airing those stupid commercials every other minute…
The only newer show that CN makes that I enjoy is Foster's and I haven't seen that in at least a year.
Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo need to make a comeback already! Those shows rocked!! They also need original Looney Toons, Justice Leaugue, Flinstones, and some Ed, Edd, and Eddy too.
The shows I just listed are genius.
For some reason my bro is saying that Cartoon Network is just switching some positions around and that they're undergoing some new changes, but is still gonna be alive, and then some other crap.
Is everyone reading the article or reading the title? or is he just wrong in what way?
Cause I can't understand anything else he says…
Maybe they could actually finish off Samurai Jack properly?
Anyways Cartoon Network has always been enjoyable. They just moved away from their good shows, which screwed them over.
I really wish I could rant about this on Toonzone (but then again I lost my password there), so I might as well say it here:
Cartoon Network should not care about ratings for starters. The station was created by Turner as a niche for cartoons and to use their own WB and HB libraries, not to directly compete with Nick and Disney. The moment you start caring about ratings is the moment you start a transformation of content into complete and utter crap. Just look at MTV: they initially aired music videos and didn't even care about ratings. They just wanted to get the art and such out there. Even in the early days of content they really didn't care and just aired stuff they considered weird or edgy or interesting. But the moment ratings came, the videos slowly were sucked away until the station became the crapfest it is now. Yes ratings are important but it shouldn't be the be-all and end-all of a cable station.
The second is obvious: if you worry about ratings, why show the same shows over and over? With both Turner and WB by their side, they should easily be able to cover a lot of programming…and that's not even including Toonami and AS! The first thing you need to realize is that the more repeats you air of a few select (usually recent) shows, the more burnout it causes and the sooner people get sick of a show. That's one reason why they keep needing new series so quickly: they air a show so much that it gets super-popular, then plummets from burn-out. Bring back the classic WB cartoons, the classic HB shows, heck even bring back the classics from ten years ago while your at it! (though for some reason while i like many episodes of Dexter and the Powerpuff Girls, I don't think they were as brilliant as other people and did have a lot of problems like the crap they show now on CN...just a lot less)
And the final piece of advice to CN: forget about live action already! Just because Nick and Disney thrive on crappy shows of "ordinary teens with quirky lives" and franchises them into movies, records and all sort of stuff...doesn't mean you have to! If you want to show live action, just rebrand yourself as Turner Kids already (which it already feels like anyway). Cartoon Network should be a refuge for cartoons, not another generic kids network that overplays teen shows and the super-long in the tooth sponge.
For the record, TCM shows vintage cartoons like Looney Tunes on Cartoon Alley. I don't recall seeing any of the Termite Terrace creations on Boomerang lately, but they may air them early in the morning on weekends.
Anyway, Cartoon Network's primary problem is that it's run by idiots who can't recognize the fact that switching their focus to preteens just won't work. Not only are tehy fighting an uphill battle to catch Disney and Nick, but they're also alienating people that have been following them for the last decade or more.
This is what these bastards get for cancelling Justice League and Samurai Jack.
This is what these bastards get for cancelling Justice League and Samurai Jack.
SECOND!
Anyway, despite having not watched Cartoon Network for a few years, it still seems strange to think it may come to an end. There were a number of shows I enjoyed watching on it, even though they're no longer being made and rarely aired.
Apparently, a major reason for cancelling Teen Titans (their highest rated show at the time to boot) and Justice League Unlimited was largely because they didn't want to pay the licensing rights to continue using the characters. Consider that for a second.
They were paying licensing rights to use characters that are owned by DC. DC is a part of Time Warner, which also owns Cartoon Network. So, basically, one part of the company was paying another part of the company money to use their characters. Is it just me or does that seem completely and totally idiotic?

Its probably the department crap. We have DC at one end of TW, we have Turner (and CN) on another end of TW…and the two sides aren't really meshing like they used to. (heck, I'm watching Batman TAS right now...on Toon Disney! Why can't this and even some other 90s WB shows like Tiny Toons or Animaniacs be on, you know, a Time-Warner station?)
Batman TAS actually airs on Boomerang occasionally.
Samurai Jack wasn't canceled, per say. In fact, the final season just came out on DVD.
Moreover, Tartakovsky plans to, hopefully, make a full-length movie to represent the finale of the series.
Word on the street is that Cartoon Network is not renewing any of their shows, and then they are planning on doing a major corporate revamp. Meaning they won't have any art jobs for 2-3 years.
I don't see why people are interpreting this as the end of Cartoon Network, it sounds to me like they're just shutting down the production of their own new shows while a new corporate team settles in. I supposed if it sucks it could LEAD to the end of CN, but not likely.
Well it's not like cartoon network wasn't full of faggotry at the moment anyways.
The only one of their original shows they still air is ed edd and eddy, which is arguably the worst piece of shit they created back in the day.
but it's still leagues above Ben10 and that retarded show hosted by like 12 year olds.
@Tokoro:

I don't know, ratings can mean everything in TV business. Maybe they didn't care in the beginning because the channel was getting a moderate sucess, but yeah the logic might changed when they became too popular and had to compete with other channels like Nick.
And you're right about the reprise stuff: It's really stupid and can ruin a show. I got tired of see CN repeating Billy and Mandy three times per day. Instead filling the schedule of reprises, they should bring back old sucess like Freakazoid or Pinky and the Brain.
I almost want to say I can't fault them for wanting money, but then you see what it produces

Because those networks paid money for the rights to show those particular shows. The Powers That Be don't want these shows on Cartoon Network for whatever reason, presumably because it'll interfere with whatever plans Warner Brothers has for the Batman/Superman franchises (Sorry, JLU, no Joker for you, we need him on The Batman!). Meanwhile, Boomerang is a premium channel and doesn't show ads so those shows aren't making any advertising revenue on there.
So Toon Disney ponies up the money for Superman:TAS and Batman:TAS (Pinky and The Brain as well if I recall correctly). As far as Tiny Toons and Animaniacs, well, again, Nickelodeon is willing to pay for them. So Warner Animation picks them over their own corporation. At a guess, the reason that we never see Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries or Tazmania is because Cartoon Network/Boomerang isn't interested in paying for the right to air either show. Unholy Abomination Babies, on the other hand, was made for Cartoon Network, so I doubt that it costs them any money to show it on Boomerang.
@Cap'n:

Not anymore as I'm pretty sure that Toon Disney has the rights to air them, most likely edited as they do the Gargoyle episodes. Actually, I think that we're supposed to lose Swat Kats or JLU for The Batman sometime soon.

Huh, because a few weeks ago I know they were showing it. Weird.
It's kind of funny how Cartoon Network is trying to emulate Disney, and in doing so are losing to them in live action AND in being a decent cartoon station.
Swat Kats… for The Batman sometime soon.
That's like trading a jar of urine for a piece of shit
I excluded JLU because it could be decent

The contract with Toon Disney just started today, so they might have been showing them just for old time's sake.

Well, Disney has at least some competent people in charge these days while Cartoon Network is at the mercy of idiots and largely has been ever since the AOLTWCHOAM merger took place.
While it hasn't worked out well for Cartoon Network, Toon Disney could easily construct an action block of Superman:TAS, Batman:TAS, X-Men, Spider-Man, Gargoyles, The Tick, Dungeons and Dragons, and whatever other action show they wanted to throw in there for the sake of variety.

Well, Swat Kats benefited from being completely insane as well as a complete willingness to kill innocent bystanders. The Batman, on the other hand, prevented the Joker from appearing in the Wonder Pig episode. So I'll take Swat Kats any day.
FOr me I stopped watching disney when cartoons like Brandy and Mr.whiskers and Kuzco new school debuted.. last Disney animation I saw was Mighty ducks:TAS.
CN..only shows worth watching now are Toonami block,Adult swim.
I wondered why Robot Jones ended early on Cn..seemd there were only 4-6 episodes
Well, Swat Kats benefited from being completely insane as well as a complete willingness to kill innocent bystanders. The Batman, on the other hand, prevented the Joker from appearing in the Wonder Pig episode. So I'll take Swat Kats any day.
Here is how each episode of Swat Kats was made:
Writers threw a dart at a dartboard with the 4 villains' names on it
they then spent the next 3 ours jerking each other off in cat fursuits to guitar riffs.
Yeah, even Disney's newer crap is better than CN's newer crap…
"Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" is possibly the best I've seen come out of Cartoon Network Studios in recent memory...
Another block Cartoon Network shows every so often is "Top 5"...
Top 5 what? It can't possibly be Top 5 cartoons... Because it's the same 10 minute crap every week... I'd be lucky to find ONE episode in that block that's really worthy of the title... The rest is the usual crap they spew out throughout the week...
I also love how they basically said "You're too stupid to vote for your Top 5... So we'll do it for you!" I mean, it's not THAT difficult... On the flipside, if people COULD vote for it we'd see the same crap every week on that block... With the exception of a new episode...
I'm really surprised how far Cartoon Network has fallen over the years. It seems like Boomerang is turning into the old Cartoon Network and the current Cartoon Network isn't sure what it wants to be. I guess since Cartoon Network is currently the lowest rated Turner network, TW feels like it needs to start emulating Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel.
I'm morbidly curious to see what CN turns into in the coming years and whether or not it gets results. I'm thinking we're looking at the channel changing its name sometime in the future.
i'm just tired of DA MAN taking away my cartoons
@Mr.:
I guess since Cartoon Network is currently the lowest rated Turner network, TW feels like it needs to start emulating Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel.
That's largely what got them into this position in the first place, though, to be fair, the downhill slide really started when they started monkeying around with Toonami's lineup to prevent it from "interfering" with the KidsWB ratings. That and their tendency to cancel shows and blocks because it's ratings for a certain demographic were too high or, in certain show's cases, because they hit a magical number of episodes where the powers-that-be decided to halt production.
I'm morbidly curious to see what CN turns into in the coming years and whether or not it gets results.
Considering that it basically means continuing the already failing methods (while making sure to go out of their way to piss off animation fans), I'm pretty sure it won't get results.
I'm thinking we're looking at the channel changing its name sometime in the future.
Probably; as is, they've been tap-dancing around the name for a while now by suggesting that anything with motion counts as animation, even live action, which ought to give an insight into the mindset of these people.
Well after watching Batman TAS last night on Toon Disney, I am starting to think of watching the network more than I have in a long time (which was barely) Combine that, the new Digimon series and Pinky and the Brain reruns…and you've got yourself a decent weekday lineup from me.
As for what CN even airs these days...I don't even think Foster's is that strong considering that Craig has been hit or miss with his jokes even back when he did Powerpuff Girls. But outside that (and Camp Lazlo, which I only go through due to the guy behind "Rocko's Modern Life" being behind it...oh, and the Courage episodes aired at ten), I only watch the network anymore for anime.
I actually still like CN, even with some of its shortcomings.
Foster's, Lazlo, Gym Partner…those three cartoons remind me alot of the humour and enjoyableness of the Dexter, Bravo, and Cow and Chicken days and I'm honestly confused why people act like those are somehow ruining the channel when they fit perfectly with CN's whole theme.
Hell, I'll admit I even enjoy Class of 3000.
Most of CN's "original" cartoons are pretty banal. I think "Gym Partner," "Camp Lazlo," "Squirrel Boy," and
I'll admit that I was really interested in Fosters when it first started out, and it had a lot of promise to begin with, but each new episode was more obnoxious and irritating than the last. BLOO is pretty much one of the worst characters ever (yes I know he's intentionally written to be obnoxious) and he get like 99% of the screentime
@Cap'n:
I still can't believe that the original LOONEY TUNES aren't being aired on any station. Not even on Boomerang, what the hell.
actually on boomerang italy they are! and that's because basically we get cn upgrades about 2 years later or so…
dammit, the original cn was the best. it has faced a steady downfall since loonatics unleashed... x_x
Loonatics Unleashed never came to CN…atleast not here.
It will eventually since CN seemingly picked up a habit of taking KidsWB's leftovers

Bloo is annoying but at least has some funny moments from his over-the-topness. If you want unfunny, Coco is probably one of the worst.
To be honest most of the characters are pretty bad and one-note
the best characters on Fosters are Madam Foster and Frankie I think.
