Cos are you thinking about Atlas?
World of Warcraft (+Burning Crusade)
-
-
Yeah, I think that's the one. I just don't want to pile on too many things that use up memory though.
-
I think Atlas is in Cosmos/Khaos, but I turned it off because it had the same features as cartographer, and the numbers and such were overlapping.
Cartographer has instance maps, but they're made from mini map pictures and they don't track locations inside. There's also a weird glitch(might be intentional) where if you open it once, boss and spawn markers show, but if you close it and look again they aren't there, and it's a little annoying to fix it, because you have to go to another map, close out, and go back in.
-
Hm, I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble or not. I usually just get the instance maps off wowhead, but it's also kind of a pain to have to minimize wow to check them out.
BTW, I hate it when people are rude/oblivious in the game. I had my warrior out in Dustwallow Marsh killing dragonkin that were a few levels higher than me. It wasn't really that difficult, but a wandering pair happened to walk by at a bad time and despite all my efforts I ended up dying. What was annoying was an orc shaman the same level as me just walked up when I was attacked and basically watched me get beat to death. I'm thinking, um, hello, help maybe? Even a little heal spell or something? But whatever. When I rezzed, then there was the problem that he was pretty much running in front of me and killing stuff I was after. I asked him if he'd like to group, because he seemed to be having difficulty too, but he said "nah, I can handle this'. Great, thanks. :getlost: Don't care much for the "everyone out for himself" attitude.
-
The reason I'm interested in solo play is that after several months of FFXI, a game where you HAVE to PT to get anywhere, I was sick and tired of having my progress be in the hands of a bunch of incompetent goofballs.
Waiting for hours for someone to accept me into a party got old.
-
You can get pretty far in WoW solo as a hunter…although there are some things that you just can't do alone unless you do it way higher level (which won't give you much experience points). Once you hit level 70, there isn't much to do solo anymore except PVP, it's all about running instances. But you'll find a lot of people will be looking for you to join their group, hardly a day goes by where I don't get whispers from people asking me if I can go with them into some instance. They shout it over the general and trade channels too.
-
Go hunter, get a nice tanking pet (I as always suggest boars.) and spec Beastmaster and you have no real trouble on normal quests and you be able to solo some group quests no problem.
And keep your eyes open for a solid guild. A good group of friends will make life a lot easier.
-
QFT about a good guild. :P
Boars and also bears are great pets for two reasons: good tanks and they eat just about anything, so you don't have to worry about getting the right kind of food to feed them. And I recommend picking up the fishing skill to help with that, as well as help with the cooking skill. Cooking is cool because you can make food that not only restores health but also gives you spirit and stamina buffs.
-
Took forever for me to get my guild to start the chain q for dirgs chimeraok chop chops… (25 stamina food pre expansion)
-
I heard there's some pretty outrageous stuff in Outland…that don't sound all that appetizing. XD Those Blizzard guys must have a fun time coming up with crazy recipe ideas.
I just got on the Clamlette Surprise chain for artisan cooking. I don't think this is a repeatable recipe type of thing, these regents will be a pain in the ass to get.
-
THe one thing about cooking that sucks is the food isn't worth the ingredients. Worse than that, the quests needed to get some recipes usually require the ingredients. But common logic says a quest should be tough. So they make it tough. Guess they forgot to realize to make it worth the reward.
I don't foresee cooking in my near future. I have it, but I won't use it at all since my skill is 1. I should have gotten First Aid instead, but it looked really expensive. Fishing on the other hand looked like a cheap way to get skill points and maybe money.
-
My cooking skill is about 25 at lvl 70. I think the last time I used it was to bake grandfather winter cookies for the xmas quests. 90% of the is simply a stam and spirit boost. Nice, but meh. It's not untill 40's+ that anything cool shows up. Like the fire breathing chilli :)
I kind of wish my skill was enough to make Bebop some sporeling snacks (Only food that the buff works on the pet.) but not enough to level it up.
As he said boars and bears are great since they eat anything so you can fish for food or get a mage to whip up some bread for them and save you funds.
Nowadays though I use http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=28111 Great for fruit eaters.
First aid is a need for any class. Even healers benfit from it since you can use it when low on mana and and unlike food you can use it in the water. I say grab it now. Since it's a secondary skill and not a trade skill, you can have it, fishing, and cooking.
-

Considering I get the majority of my ingrediants for free from drops, and can turn around and sell stacks of food if I don't want it, I can't conceive of how you find that to be true. My first character didn't have cooking, and after having ones that do, I totally regretted it. So I send extra food down. It's worth the buffs IMO. 12 stamina and spirit for 1 minutes for free plus regenerating health? Why not? And for a rogue, being able to make thistle tea is helpful. There's the fun stuff like deviant delight too. :3

You make better food at higher levels, if your skill level is 1, of course you make crappy food.
Neither first aid nor cooking is very expensive. I don't know how anyone who isn't a healing class could even get around with first aid. Sure mages can make food, but it takes a lot longer for food to regenerate health than bandages.
-
I'm an alchemist so I figured I could rely on potions for all the healing I needed.
-

really? i dont rember them to be that hard to get…
theres comments in the quest portion of that link that tells you where to get the cheese (i recall a vendor in TB in sells the cheese) and to go to hintherlands to farm the owlkin there for the eggs.
clams is never a problem imo..I don't foresee cooking in my near future. I have it, but I won't use it at all since my skill is 1. I should have gotten First Aid instead, but it looked really expensive. Fishing on the other hand looked like a cheap way to get skill points and maybe money.
Gearsecond. which is your other profession (other then alchemy)? and why didnt you get all three of the trade skills? or atleast get the first aid one. you will need both pots and bandages at some occations in raids.
-

Well, my druid is an alchemist on top of being able to cast healing spells, but I still learned cooking for the buffs and first aid so I can save mana if I need to. Plus, selling stacks of bandages is worth more than stacks of plain cloth.

clams is never a problem imo..The cheese isn't a problem, but I haven't found any giant eggs yet, and I never find enough tangy clam meat. I'm not sure where the best places to get it at is.
-
I would pick up first aid anyway gear. It's quick to level up and easy to keep in stock. Just find a easly grindable humanoid and you have all the cloth you need and a some pocketchange for your trouble. No need to bother running around for herbs or by regeants off the AH.
Save the pots for emergency's. You can use the band aids for when your low on HP after a battle. Plus all pot's share a 2 min cooldown. Band aid's are only one min and you be able to use if even if you need a pot during the battle.
EDIT: Maybe you should farm some naga or murlocs. They usually drop clams with meat and maybe a pearl inside. Not sure what level for tangy though.
EDIT2: make that Steel Jaw Snapper and Yellow Snapper turtles in tanis seem to drop them. and it looks like you need zesty not tangy.
-
Oh, so you're a solipsist…well, that explains a lot.
Not really, no. And no, it wouldn't.
Every class should learn First Aid. There's no reason not to, and there's almost always a situation where every class could need it.
-

Yes, zesty. Not sure how one clam is zestier than another :P
Tanis? Do you mean Tanaris? I've killed a lot of murlocs and nagas without much luck, but I will try the second suggestion. Some of the critters are a bit high level for me at the moment but not for long. Guess I got to head out to the coast of Tanaris. I need more iridescent pearls too so I can make more of these, they make decent money at the AH for the level. :3
-
Yep. you would think a bookworm like me would be able to spell.
Those turtles should drop them, I got the info from allakazam. I admit I'm a lousy cheater.
It also says the fire rocs also drop the giant eggs.
-
I got the trial disc from Gamestop.
But I can't play since I'm like .2 GB too short to fully install the game, lolz.
-
@Capt:

Hehe, no worries. One of the most creative and clever writers I knew was a really bad speller. XD

I don't consider that cheating, I use wowhead and thottbot all the time. Wandering around looking for drops if you have no idea where they come from would be a total waste of time.

Thats a bummer. Wait, are we talking about HD space or memory? There's a lot of ways to clean up extra space on the HD.
-
Fuck not using Thottbot. Trying to do quests without coordinates is enough to make any man vomit blood.
-
I deleted a bunch of files I don't user anymore and i got one of the DLs to install fine…
...and then it looks like I need another shitty patch.
-
Patches are part of WoW life unfortunately. :P
It's good to run disk cleanup and disk defrag periodically if you haven't already, there's all kinds of temp files that take up space that are unnecessary.
-
I'm aware of the patching process. I just thought that one big one would've been sufficient to catch this trial disc up.
Guess not…
If it's going to take much more I'm just not going to bother.
-
World of Warcraft can take 4-7 hours to fully install, patches and all. It's quite ridiculous.
And that's if you have a very fast connection.
-
They just recently released a big new patch…and then had to release lots of little patches to fix the problems the patch caused. XD

Yeah, remember all about the Black Temple patch. Nearly every fuckin' server crashed later that day.
-
Haha, I saw something about Black Temple when installing it.
OK, looks like it's ready to go now. Now I just gotta remember what realm my friends are on and go there.
-
@Cap'n:

Black Temple is where Illidan Stormrage, the primary of World of Warcraft, resides.
-
I'm considering buying this game, but does it play well on notebooks? As my computer 'tis a laptop, and I'm not entirely sure that it will be able to support something as huge as WoW.
-
@Mr.:

Noah's [roommate] laptop couldn't run it well. However, World of Warcraft has very low setting requirements.
Make a thread in the GameFAQ's WoW forum and they'll tell you how well it'll run.
-
After getting Burning Crusade, I spent all night just reinstalling the game+ expansion since it had been off my computer for awhile.
Disc 3 was glitched, but luckily I had a second copy(I'll only go into details if asked, it's another story) and I just used those. It was frustrating because it was a brand new CD and it failed twice, so I just used a different one.
The rest of the time was spent waiting and waiting and waiting for the Expansion to finish installing.
The thing I hate most is when even though the expansion contains all the patches, or at least all the major ones, every MMORPG, despite patching the game before the expansion so it'll work correctly, they come out with a huge patch afterwards. Why? I don't know. But it's always been frustrating for me to download all patches to insure I can get on without patching, only to find out that a MAJOR patch came out for expansion users sometime between whenever the game was released, and 2 minutes before some lucky guy who got it quickly gets home.
Carter, delete every unnecessary file on your computer, and do defrag + drive cleanup. It's healthy for your computer and will free all the space you need.
-
since it concerns wow i decided to post this here instead of the warhammer thread where the discussion started.
troll racial spell: Shadowguard (3 charges of lightiningshield type shadowdamage.)
http://www.thottbot.com/s18137
trolls got little more base spi
Racial traits: berserking (haste attackspeed) and 10% health regen active in combat. (plus crappy other bonsuses like beastslaying and bow/throwing skill increase)undead racial spell: devouring plague (vampiric touch like dot)
http://www.thottbot.com/s2944
UD got little more base int
Racial traits: anti fear, 10 points shadow resist, cannabalize (underwater bearthing)and if i recall correctly troll stuff was even worse before… no wonder most people choose UD over troll. they still need to buff that race =(
(on a sidenote the header image on the wow europe site on the dranei and BE races doesnt have funny comments when mousing over the characters like the other races do T_T)
-
Devouring Plague costs too much mana, has a 3 minute cooldown, and does less damage than SW:P. Sure, it heals you, but guess what? You're a Priest. You don't need for your DoTs to heal you. Now, if you're going Shadow spec, this is technically more useful than Shadowguard.
Shadowguard is much more useful, as you can cast it on your tank frequently [or anybody that needs it], costs less mana, and has no cooldown on it. Your job should be to protect the party, not deal damage.
Trolls make better Priests than Forsaken, when it comes to healing. Beserking, while generally not that useful, can come in very handy when needing to spam heal.
-
really? i forgot that shadowguard was casteble on others… (shadowguard protects? seems to me it only deals damage to attackers?)
does it stack with shamans Earthshield? i forgot all about this shadowguard shield since i only played with 1 troll priest ever i think. if not the 10 procc +health would be a better choice on tanks imo. (since it counts as the tank healing himself, atleast to damage meters, it would raise his aggro yes?)
well the major advantage of the forsaken is the will of the forsaken and the 10 shadow resist (atleast shadow resist used to be helpfull i quit before i fully understood the change in the point system)¨
people tend to choose their chars based on pvp rather then boss encounters anyway.and as mages i dont think trolls really stand that much of a chance to be taken over UDs
-
For Mages, it doesn't really matter. Mages tend to not need Will of the Forsaken, which would be the only reason to roll an Undead Mage. Either race would be about the same.
Shadowguard is a buff, which can be cast before battle starts; it lasts 10 minutes [or until used]. It most likely stacks with Earth Shield. But the fact that it's technically a buff, not a damaging spell, makes it better.
Even if you were to roll Shadow Priest, Devouring Plague is a forgettable spell, in general. You'll find yourself not using it. Ever, really. To be honest, having Berserking would probably be better than having Devouring Plague, which is sad.
-
i keept forgetting berserking when i played a troll mage… was never really worth using imo.. the damn animation time (think it was slightly longer then the universal cooldown) removed any benefits you gained from it while at full health.
personally i dont like casting self buff spells in combat unless everything else is on cooldown/not worth casting. (meaning the shaman spells were ok but berserking was a hassle)
i didnt level my priest that high but i keept using DP untill he hit the shelf. it was another spell that could procc blackout so it was worth casting on anything that was going to survive long enough to get close to me.
-
Alright, so I got my giant chicken mount. Since the mounts themselves only cost 9 gold, I'll just pay for a new one when I become exalted.
Also, I've been thinking the male blood elf voice sounds really familiar for a long time but I couldn't find any voice credits. Then a friend popped on after having quit WoW for 6 months and immediately pinned it as Cam Clarke the moment he heard it and I couldn't believe I didn't figure that out earlier.
-
Yay, I'm closing in on Outlands, 3 more levels. =)
-
So I'm level 62 now, still saving for my epic mounts >.> (go figure, my respec costs 35g now. lol ;_;)
-
Next expansion announced: http://www.wowszene.de/news.php?extend.1182
The first part is in german but the rest is in english, just scroll down. There's probably an US site announcement too but that's the first one I saw XD
-
IM GOING TO DEATHKNIGHT STYLE PEWPEW YOU TO DEATH WITH FROSTMOURNE MADSKILLZ AND EPIC HERO STATUS.
(rofl)
-
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/23133.html
Arthas does sound quite badass
and if there is 1 hero class there must be more, since every class can't evolve into Death Knight
-
Sounds like Hero classes will be high level exclusives, which makes a lot of sense. Though Paladin was technically a class used by heroes… hrm.
(still not gonna sign up and play fulltime btw)
-
At least I'll be 70 and have gotten a good tour of Outland by then. I still have 3 levels to go before I can go there (yes I know about teleports, no thank you right now).
-
You'll learn to hate Outland. Hate it. With every fiber of your being.
QUICKLY YOU NEED REPUTATION TO DO ANYTHING HOSHIT
-
Well, my entire guild who are mostly RL friends all love Outland, so I'm looking forward to it. Particularly since it means I get to actually play with all of them instead of just have them help me occasionally. :P
-
Outland would be extremely fun if it wasn't a huge farm for Reputation.
Then again, farming is what WoW is all about, so it probably isn't that foreign of a concept for avid WoW players.
