So, I see no reason for Moria to not gab inanimate objects shadows. Hell, that's probably part of his fighting style.
Would moria cut himself if he grabbed the shadow of a sword? (if he grabbed the blade that is)

the shadow seems to be a copy of the soul. and Brook says the soul "does not change since we are born" but swords and other items has been reshaped into what they are now.
(ofc i could be over analyzing and that wasnt at all what oda meant)
