O…o...OUENDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!
-
Yea, heard it this morning. Can't wait.
-
Holy. Crap.
I can't wait.
-
This is the best thing I've read all day.
-
Nice. I haven't played the original (though I want to), but I loved Elite Beat Agents, so I'll probably have to check this out.
-
oh my god
I almost thought there won't be sequel -
How good is this game, Carter?
-
you know what's kinda funny?
They released the US version here. It's sold out everywhere.
-
@Private:

No need to ask Carter… the game is AMAZING!!! If you like J-Rock, I suggest getting Ouendan... if you like Chicago & the Village People, I suggest getting EBA.

Or if you're like me, like nearly any/everything, and have a lot of money, get both.
-
Yeah, I think both versions are pretty good. I like them about the same actually.
-
(still trying to beat "Jumpin' Jack Flash" on Sweatin') Yeah, I'm there. Personally would love to check out the original Ouendan but I don't know if I have the moolah for an import for that yet. (rather get JUS first…though I just got my DS a bit over two weeks ago)
Oh, and don't mess with Chicago. I hate "You're the Inspiration" (personally anything after the 70s when they become a typical synth-pop band sucks), but it would be so kick-butt to have even "25 or 6 to 4" or "Make Me Smile" in this game.
-
THIS IS AWESOME.
I have played both, and got to Jumpin' Jack flash on Hard Rock! (Stuck there.) and to some point in insane in Ouendan. (I FORGET.)
(I knew about this and planned to make a thread, but my internet died yesterday afternnoon til this morning, where I figured out the modem was stupid. (Cable came loose.))
(Yay iNiS! YOU PEOPLE TRY GITAROO MAN TOO.(Also made by iNiS.(Also rythm game))

Send over a PSP or a functioning PS2 and I might consider it. :p

It would be amazingly awesome if there was a pillows song in the sequel. The chances are 50 to nil, but I can hope.
-
@Mr.:

You never know Mr. All Sunday; iNiS always amazes me at their ability to get such amazing songs for an even more amazing game.
I recently let my girlfriend borrow Ouendan so that she could get in the hang of playing at the Hard and Very Hard/Isane Modes so that she could be on par with me and could very well beat me. Not to mention I've gotten myself to memorize the hit marker placement amongst other things to perfect my skill at the game.
The covers in the songs are flawless IMO. Some of my buddies thought it was the actual artist singing the song (with the exception of 175R, who did indeed use their actual version of "Melody" in Ouendan).
But going by what I've been hearing around lately, I wouldn't be suprised to see HOME MADE Kazoku on the sequel, since they've been growing in popularity lately.
Seeing The Pillows on the sequel IMO seems like something to me that's got a possiblity of happening. AKFG had "Loop and Loop," which was the intro level music, and something slower paced, say for instance, "Ride on Shooting Star," is something I could see as the ribbon-cutter for it.
But that's just how I feel about it. >_<;;
(I feel like an Ouendan nutcase now…)
-
Well, I much prefer EBA to Ouendan, but this is still great news. If this means a 2008 EBA sequel is in our future, then this is even greater news.

Ahh…well yeah, everybody does have their preferences, and I'm not gonna shoot down EBA in any way or anything. At first I didn't like the concept thinking it was a "crappy" US attempt at Ouendan. But as a music lover, EBA had memorable songs (Let's Dance, Jumpin' Jack Flash, and YMCA) and I found myself singing those songs everywhere. >_<
But yeah, I'm unbiased when it comes to Ouendan and EBA. The spinner for EBA is more forgiving than the one in Ouendan, but Jumpin' Jack Flash to me seems like a demon in comparison to Ready Steady Go with the hit marker/spinner combination during the middle of the song.

new characters, but the original casts will return
-
Personally wish I could play the original "Ouendan", but I guess I may have to import it in order to. (but first: I still can't beat "Jumpin' Jack Flash" on Sweatin'…that third part with the split-second buttons and the spinners kills me every time!) As for songs...couple of the new ones (to me) became catchy to me ("Without a Fight") and it reinforced some I knew I liked ("Canned Heat" was probably the only good thing in Napoleon Dynamite)...but if I have to hear any more songs originally done by Ashlee Simpson or Avril Lavinge...or even some bad selections from good artists (rather have "Bohemian Rhapsody" or even something more lively like "Bicycle Race" over "I Was Born to Love You" for Queen, and my selection for Bowie would probably be something earlier than "Let's Dance"...heck, I even mentioned my Chicago problem before, but something from the 70s would kick so much more than "You're the Inspiration"), then I'll start questioning INIS's taste in music.

Looks like the State Alchemist from FMA.

Well, I disagree. Ouendan's concept of using the power of one's "inner firey burning passion" or whatever to succeed is somewhat less appealing than EBA's implication of the power of dance. Using that motif also puts its songs at a greater level of relevance, and enhances the funkyfresh character designs of the main characters.
Oh, and there's also the fact that there is way more animation in EBA, the ability to skip song intros, and more hilarious scenarios (that last one's IMO, natch). I mean, Ouendan doesn't have anything that can possibly trump September, Survivor, The Anthem, or JJF's stages.
-
Having beat both Ouendan and EBA on all of their modes, this is fantastic news to me. I crave more more more. I'm glad to see that Cram-school kid is back in Ouendan 2. I really hope some other of my favorites appear also.
Also, did anyone else notice that the Boss from the Morning Musume song in Ouendan is in the Director stage of EBA, getting married to the girl.
-
Hah, yeah, I thought I was the only one who noticed that guy showing up.

I really have to disagree here. I thought the fiery manliness was much more appealing than doing a bunch of fruity little dances. I also kind of liked the way the main characters in Ouendan looked more. And plus, I can't explain this, but having the fire in the background while I was playing seemed to help me. It felt too odd not having it there.
I think overall I like both games about the same. Overall I think Ouendan's soundtrack was much better; not because the songs are super amazing, (though Linda Linda, Taiyou ga Moeiteriu and others were awesome) but because EBA had a bunch of terrible songs like Survivor, Sk8er Boi, The Anthem, La La, Without a Fight… and some others so un-impressing I can't really remember their names. (though, Highway Star and Rock the Town were awesome)
But, I think EBA's scenarios were a little bit better. I have a soft spot for Ouendan's Police vs Robots, Salaryman vs Giant Mouse, the Pottery stage, and the Ramen stand, but EBA seemed to go all out on making a bunch of outrageous yet awesome scenarios; Rock This Town, YMCA, and The Anthem all had really cool scenarios. Though I find it kind of odd how Lazzie pointed out September as being hard to beat, when it's scenario is probably one of my least favorites in EBA.
EBA also gets a point or two because, as someone pointed out, the spinners are much less hellish.
So I'd have to recommend both, since you get a different experience from them both. I think part of it boils down to a culture-gap kind of thing; for instance, American players will be less likely to "get" (or relate to) things like the cram school stage, matsuri, Ramen shop, and so on. Just like a Japanese player probably won't catch onto the baby sitting level, Material Girl, Let's Dance, and so on. Personally I loved both games, and they both did things better than the other.
One request I'd like to make for sequels of both titles: NO MORE SAPPY GHOST LEVELS.
-
Well… I also have to disagree, because I think that Survivor is a great song. No arguments fo Sk8er Boi or La La, but Survivor is just quality.
-
Another thing I liked in Ouendan was the person getting fiery and pumped up inbetween segments, as opposed to waving their arms.
-
Well, whatever. I think that the funk/arm waving / dance moves are more entertaining then the fury / firey / whistle-blowing. We aren't going to do any convincing of one another if we believe in such fundamentally different principles, so let's just both agree that we're looking forward to Ouendan 2. Fair?
-
Well, that time I wasn't trying to contest you or anything. I was just remembering stuff that I liked more about Ouendan.
But yeah, I'm excited about Ouendan 2.
-
Well, I disagree. Ouendan's concept of using the power of one's "inner firey burning passion" or whatever to succeed is somewhat less appealing than EBA's implication of the power of dance. Technically speaking here, Ouendan is the predecessor of EBA and what I consider to be the prototype into the product that EBA is today. Also the whole "inner burning passion" is what being a japanese male cheerleader squad leader/captain is all about. You also have to note the inspiration of where the Ouendan squad leaders come from and where the Agents come from.
The desing of the cheerleaders in Ouendan are based off the real-life squads in Japan. In their "marches," they pride/inner passion is what gives them the oomph they need to be at their best.
The Agents have a heavy reference to The Blues Brothers, Men in Black, Austin Powers, Charlie's Angels, Ghostbusters, and agents in general. Which, in my opinion, explains as to the dance moves, the whole sercet base look, and so forth.
I'll admit, September is a hard song to top off; but the song selection IMO needed more. Rock This Town gave me the image of what EBA was really about when I first played it. Tomoyasu Hotei's "Thrill" and "One Night Carnival" by Kishidan were my two favorites in the game, and "Shanghai Honey" by Orange Range on Insane Mode to be the most satisfying stage in Ouendan, hit marker-wise.

The fiery passion did make gives that added kick of kick-ass when you get an S-Rank on a stage, I couldn't agree with you anymore on it at all.
September is THE song in EBA. No doubt about it.
No wai, the ghost levels are amazing. X3
There's this part of me that loves tearing up to the amazing music in both O!T!O and EBA.
–-
Personally, "I Was Born To Love You" by Queen is a song I sing to my girlfriend when I feel all giggly and love-crazy for her inside and when I'm in the mood for a little bit of Freddie Mercury-style dancing.
But yes, like many have said, bring on...OUENDAN. 2. :3
From that pic that I saw in an earlier post. The leader of the new rival squad looks a like Shin from Hokuto No Ken/Fist of the North Star. That or it looks like an American team. X3
-
ah man this is awesome news! ive just got Elite beat agents and havent finished it yet i already want more xD
and so far i can only agree with Hoffy and say that September was defintly the best song it was just made for this kinda game, and i was bawling like a baby during the ghost story to the tunes of Chicago and i also throughly enjoyed Material girl and Y.M.C.A to.
but as most people said id like to punch the the man who thought it was a good idea to stuff La La and the Anthem in to this game, all other songs were at worst alriight but i just couldnt stand these two to bad too cause Anthem had an hilarious story to it.

The nurse in "La La" was hot…but the song was a horrible decision. I say bring her back and place an Ashlee Simpson ban on future games.

Yeah. I found Cap White to be just as attention grabbing as the Elite Beat Divas. Maybe if she had a partner in the next game, fighting off more armies of viruses…or something.
Anyways, I found this pic earlier and it got me smiling:
-
September is definitely a great song, but I dunno. I just love Rock This Town too much, and Highway Star is definitely second to me.
I just didn't care for September's scenario… I dunno.

Rock This Town has the most pleasing dance moves that I've seen while playing the game. Especially while playing with J. XD
The Highway Star and ABC stage and IMO is the English counterpart and evolution to the stage with the horse in Ouendan where he does some impromptu crime fighting to Guts Da Ze.

(grumbles about still not beating "Jumpin Jack Flash" on Sweatin…) But hey, with Miss White and the bouncy twins, I'm set for a while. (if it weren't for the dizziness and the "bounce", "Material Girls" would be a waste)
Oh, and "Highway Star" rocks! (one way...it has a pug. the other...well I know now the reference for JJBA :P...then again, "I Was Born to Love You" is off "Made in Heaven"...)

Dancing OP girls! (then again, I somehow find more connection between EBA and Negima..but more so because Misa, Madoka and Sakurako would be perfect replacements for the agents)

I was pleased when I heard about it a few weeks ago, but now I gotta get my hands on the first and I swore not to get it until I was done with EBA(stuck on hard rock D:)

It'll be worth the 40-50 you're spending on it.
-
I suppose I was one of the few people who liked every single song/scenario in EBA. ..aside from Believe. That one's just annoying. Anyway, I'm glad they're doing some sequels. I hope I can get Ouendan 1 and 2 eventually.
-
@Monkey:
A condescending barrage of info that I already knew.
Look, I'm not saying I don't understand Ouendan. I've done a little research on both Ouendan and EBA (as I'm prone to do with media that I experience and enjoy), I've beaten Ouendan through the third difficulty and EBA on HARD ROCK, and I'm perfectly aware of where Ouendan and EBA's characters get their designs from.
I never contradicted or expressed ignorance of those elements of Ouendan and EBA. I'm just saying that I enjoyed both and I consider EBA superior in most aspects, including mechanics, visuals, scenarios, song selection, and character concept and design. I'm aware that Ouendan came first and that EBA is attempting to be a more "Americanized" game, but I overwhelmingly preferred EBA. I'm just sayin'.

I'm sorry about that whole scuffle.
Truce?

I have a question, does having a perfect score on every song on every difficulty changes anything? Because I'm having some real trouble with a couple songs and I'd like to know if I'm doing this for nothing. Atleast if it is I'll just get Ouendan faster anyway!
-
Famitsu has news on the sequel supposedly, along with some screenshots. There's going to be a rival squad, and one of the new scenerios is going to be a shoemaker selling his surplus to space aliens.
Comparing Ouendan to EBA, I will say that I definitely liked EBA's "style" more from the limited experience I've had with both of them (I don't own a DS, but I have played a lot of EBA and have seen an exhaustive amount of videos for Ouendan). I mean, I really liked how Ouendan looked; Kishidan is one of my favorite Japanese bands and everything, but the agents came off as being a lot cooler in my opinion. Maybe it's because I'm one of those suits > trenchcoat guys, but I just have a soft spot for stuff like what EBA had. I didn't really have any qualms with the song selection for either games; I thought they both complimented the style of the characters really well. As for La La and the Anthem… I really can't remember how those two sounded from when I played them, so I guess that might say something. The scenarios surrounding them were kickass, though. I guess September's scenario wasn't quite as grand as the others, but it was still one of my favorite stages because of the song.

I don't think it does. Having a perfect score on all the stages is just a sign of accomplishment letting you know you can kick some serious ass. Well that, and like it'll boost up your rank in either game.

Awesome, though I don't care for that longhair.

These new characters scare me.
Oh well, I'm still looking forward to it.

Hm, I don't really know any of those songs… but I'm sure they're pretty good.
