anyone watching the academy awards tonight. I am hoping Cars takes the award home for best animated feature instead of Happy feet or monster house
Academy/Oscars
-
-
How did Monster House get nominated?
Anyways, hope Departed wins a bunch.
-
I'll watch the ceremony too. Though it is a shame that Jack Nicholson wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actor, I'm still cheering for Scorcese and the other awards that "The Departed" was nominated.
-
I'm gonna be watching Heroes Instead :D
-
Is heroes on sunday in canada =O?!
Lucky bastards.
-
HAPPY FEET!?
How in the world did Happy Feet win best animated picture?
-
HAPPY FEET!?
How in the world did Happy Feet win best animated picture?
Because everyone likes Dancing Penguins Hooray for Happy Feet!
-
Ugh. I hope The Departed doesn't win best picture just because of that cop-out of an ending. In its place, I hope Letters from Iwo Jima wins.
-
Happy Feet won because this year sucked in the ol' animatoin department. None of them deserved an Oscar if you ask me, this year's animation award is really a joke. Next year will hopefully be better for animation.
The best year for animation was 2002, when all the movies nominated were great except for one (Spirited Away, Lilo and Stitch, Ice Age, Spirit, and the crappy Treasure Planet)
Go Jennifer Hudson for getting best supporting actress, she did a great job in Dreamgirls.

Instead of celebrating themselves, wouldn't it be nicer if they donated all of the money that goes into the event (including the gift bags) to something like…..building schools in Iraq? Or fighting hunger?
-
Ellen Degeneres is funny as hell in this.
-
Scorcese for Best Director I hope, goddamn is it a belated award. If not for this, for his past.
-
Also, Al Gore was funny, too. When he brought out that piece of paper.
"My fellow Americans. I will take this time to now officially announce my–"
Music starts playing
We all would have known the end to that sentence.
Also, when an Inconvenient Truth won the Oscar for best documentery, the director was going crazy with Al Gore. Like, seriously touching every section of this body. Al Gore's face was priceless.
-
the dancers who interpreted those films were cool!
-
Martin gets his award
-
AND the Departed!

The movie stars are laguhing at you.
No but seriously, yeah that would be a good idea. I mean, the nominees just go to get the dam award right? -
Pure awesome, I'm glad that Scorcese won the Oscar, as well as The Departed. I'm surprised that Happy Feet won…
-

Not as hard as I'm laughing at them.
And regardless of how much I have a love/hate relationship with Oscars, Will Smith not winning for The Pursuit of Happyness just tipped the scale.
It's a goddamn sin he didn't win. He was absolutely flawless in that picture.

It'd be nicer if they were all brought to the Guillotine and their freshly severed heads exposed in public until crows only leave bleached bones, but that's just me.

You think? I thought she was absolutely flat the entire show. Needs more Stewart, or heck! Conan or Colbert would be great too.
the dancers who interpreted those films were cool!
Yeh, those little performances were one of the few highlights. I was impressed with the Departed one.
It's a goddamn sin he didn't win. He was absolutely flawless in that picture.
Perhaps, I haven't seen that movie, so I can't really say. Though, Forrest Whitaker is stone cold captivating in the Last King of Scotland and partically everything I've seen him in (TV included, The Shield Season 5, HELLO!). I think he thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly… deserved this award, not just for a recognition of his role, but for his amazing career thus far.

In regards to the gift bags, I believe I heard in an interview that this year if people want them they will have to pay for whatever is in them, and then next year they will go away completly. However that doesn't mean the money will go to Iraq or hunger.
-
I honestly don't give a shit about the Oscars and I had no idea they were happening until my roomate started watching them last night, but I had to respond to this:
@Battle:
You think? I thought she was absolutely flat the entire show.
Good lord, yes. I wasn't watching but every now and then I'd happen to hear some, and I honestly felt sort of embarrassed whenever I heard Ellen Degeneres say something.
In fact most of the presentations/jokes in general I heard were awful. I wish uncreative people like celebrities would stop trying to sound clever.
edit: one of my friends said "I hope this is the year the terrorists finally bomb them" and I'm inclined to agree.

Fighting hunger would be a more worthy goal.
But more money on Iraq hardly seems necessary; the US has pumped over a trillion dollars into that debacle. Every child in Iraq ought to have their own personal school by now.
-
Greg i seen both movies. Will smith did a great job, but FOrrest Whitaker diserved that Oscar much more than he did. He was excellent in that movie. Will smith will get one eventually.

I haven't seen both films so I can't accurately assess the situation…
BUT
Without even considering his performance throughout the majority of the film, the final scene alone earned him the win. I haven't seen someone pull off a scene of that magnitude with such perfection, one that completely removes you from the theater and puts you directly IN the scene and even better, in his shoes. That was remarkable.
and I honestly felt sort of embarrassed whenever I heard Ellen Degeneres say something.
Funny, I feel the same way. Which is a shame because some of her old stand-up from the early 90's is pretty damn good.
-
I thought she was funny. I love Ellen. I guess different strokes for different folks.
-
I like Ellen she is very funny
