Chapter 446 "Doctor Hogback" Discussion

-
Thanks like always, BF!
goes to see if a new avatar awaits him
Aww, but your current one is awesome. Don't change it!
Anyways, as you see, I made my avatar just now from the spread. =D
BF's mistake encouraged me <3 -
lol,in that picture where Nami kicks(i think) after that invisible man and tjen we see her face in the next picture, you could think she get´s r*ped(rofl)
wow,i liked this chapter,it was cool, and that Dr. Hogback really reminds me of the Pinguin,Millenium Earl and Dr. Eggman lol
-
In the translation Hogback says ''Never look inside my lab''. I think this pretty much seals the fact he's a villain.
I am reminded of Resident Evil.
-
Wow, lot of closely exposed Nami. And looks like we finally have the official spelling. "Thriller Bark" has been romanized by Oda.
Nami looks so cute with her hair slicked back, she needs to do that more.
-
Thanks for the Raw, Battle Franky.
Hogback is definately up to something, especially since he told Chopper his lab is off limits. But I still can't figure out why he stole Brooke's shadow if he really is the culprit.
And why hasn't Brooke shown up at the mansion yet? He was moving very fast and should have gotten to the mansion before Ussop and the others.
-

Hmm. I keep spelling it 'Barque'. Is there a correct way to spell it?
-
Hogback looks like the love child of Danny DeVito's Penguin and Nosferatu.
Thanks BF.
-
@CCC: No, cause Oda himself just spelled it "Bark".
-
Man, this arc is a lot of fun.
And that's probably the best color spread ever.
-
Hogback has a special laugh! He must be a villain!
-
We all know that Luffy will without doubt fight the main villain. Maybe we will have a new twist where the main villain relies on something else to fight, rather than using his own powers to fight.
-
OMG thanks for the chapter BF. And for some strange reason Dr. Hogback reminds me of The Rocky Horror Picture…...and that weird lady sorta looks cute, and the closet we have seen Nami get naked.
-

I don't see why so many people are convinced/concerned Hogback is to weird to fight Luffy head on. I mean, he's a doctor like Chopper, who's to say he doesn't know Life Return, or something similiar to it. Not to mention he has fairly obvious fangs, which would indicate some classic vampire style powers, several of which would be useful in a fight - metamorphosis, high strength, flight etc.
Oh, and that stitching around his face, lord knows what that indicates, but I'd say he's more than capable in a fight. Honestly, who would have thought someone like Wapol would be able to go toe to toe with Luffy…at least for a while? Yet he did, and entertainly so.
-
Hmm, looks like Usopp and Sogeking are going to be treated like different people with different movielists after all. Usopp still hasn't brought out Kabuto.
-
You know, what if Chopper ends up fighting Dr. Hogback?
I know it's more than unlikely; but they're both doctors, and maybe Chopper finds out that his "idol" is not who he seems. Hogback could say something that Chopper strongly disagrees with, or something along those lines to get him upset. -
Hmm, looks like Usopp and Sogeking are going to be treated like different people with different movielists after all. Usopp still hasn't brought out Kabuto.
Or perphaps it's just that Kabuto would be used to make bigger, more powerful moves. Moves which would be dangerous indoors, and which are more explosive than he feels is nessecary at the moment.
Plus, it's bigger and most likely bulkier, so his gaddy would be easier to bring out for a quick shot or two. Kabuto would need a few seconds to pull out of his bag, extend and set up etc.
You know, what if Chopper ends up fighting Dr. Hogback?
Not unless we find Hogback is actually working for someone else who we've yet to meet. More likely if he says something to upset Chopper, Luffy will stand up to him, inspire him to refute Hogback, then Luffy will go kick his ass, and Chopper will find the courage to rage on whoever he fights in the end.
Realistically though, it'd be like saying Nami could have fought Arlong since their pasts are so intimately entwined, that Sanji should have fought Don Kreig since he was threatening Sanji's home etc.
-
Wow awsome chapter hehehehe
-
Whoot, finally! ^^
When I saw Hogback the first time, I was like "WTF is wrong with his feet?" But it's just his shadow… it looks odd oo"
So... now, a few questions came to my mind after reading the new chapter:
Why are only two persons allowed to enter the mansion?
Why looks Hogback so extremly nervous when Usopp mentions Brooke? (huh, he looks a bit angry too...)
Why does the invisible person says "You are our new bride!"(?) to Nami...?And another one... when the invisible person grabbed her, it doesn't look like she is grabbed by hands... the marks on her arms are too small. Maybe ropes?
-
@Impel:
Hogback has a special laugh! He must be a villain!
ummm so does brook and aren't you the biggest brook fan on this site
-
Um just wanted to mention that the first link to this chapter doesn't have the Enel journey page…...
BTW what's up with all the Nami fanservice all of a sudden?! -
Why looks Hogback so extremly nervous when Usopp mentions Brooke? (huh, he looks a bit angry too…)
Because he presumably has Brooke now captured, and confined to his lab. Along with Brooke's shadow. I'd guess Nami will lead her team to break into his lab now that she's so suspicious of him, and Luffy and co. will be making a nice distracton, and they'll break both out, allowing him to fight and join the crew.
Also, to continue the Nightmare Before Christmas theme, Brooke's shadow will have been altered to somewhat resemble Zero, and will now be part of his fighting style. And a good pet for the crew
Why does the invisible person says "You are our new bride!"(?) to Nami…?
Cause he likes to force weak women to marry him I suppose.
And another one… when the invisible person grabbed her, it doesn't look like she is grabbed by hands... the marks on her arms are too small. Maybe ropes?
Claws? Small hands? Ectoplasm?
-
Thanks alot for the chapter!! Hogback is soooooo evil.
-
First of all, thank you, Battle Franky, for providing the scans. : D
Second: Aw noes, I really wanna correct the missing parts in my translation but the spoiler thread is already locked and the translation Kanemaki just reposted is also mine. The mistakes are spreading over teh internet!? OTZBut alas, I'm not the only one who thinks Cindry is hot. ¦ D
-
@Freeman-12:

BTW what's up with all the Nami fanservice all of a sudden?!The Enel mini arc is on hold this week because of the awesome colorspread.
Another great chapter and I love all the little details like the creepy portraits hanging on the walls and the chairs shaped like Crosses.
-
Thanks for the HQ RAWs battle franky… OP out before Naruto.. rock on!
Here's online viewing mirror for this chapters RAW:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/446/I'm going to repeat what I said in the spoiler topic: Cindry is based off a Japanese ghost story where a maid accidentally broke one of her master's 10 valuable plates, so the master killed her and tossed her body into a well. Every night afterwards, a voice can be heard coming from the well saying, "1 plate, 2 plates, 3 plates…"
Thanks for sharing this. It's so hard to keep track of all the references Oda gets inspired from.
-
Thanks BatFrank.
Hogback reminds me of Arlong a bit. And his face (which I presume is not his own and was stiched on) reminds me of Sachiel from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Or perphaps it's just that Kabuto would be used to make bigger, more powerful moves. Moves which would be dangerous indoors, and which are more explosive than he feels is nessecary at the moment.
My guess is that they were introduced because of how powerful the enemy was, and until we meet equally as powerful enemies, we won't be seeing any of the strawhat's upgrades again.
-
My guess is Kabuto is a useless piece of junk that does exactly the same thing than his old slingshot except it shoots crap further. As his targets aren't far from him he has no need to use it.
-
But alas, I'm not the only one who thinks Cindry is hot. ¦ D
I'll take this time to point this out: her breasts are clearly fake. Look at those stitches on her chest…
-
So now we know that it's clearly Thriller Bark, Page 19, for those that haven't yet found out.
Gorgeous… ... I mean, creepy chapter. But the Chopper and Hogback "never enter my lab" panel was classic and yet so funny. I don't think he's actually a bad person, more of a Foxy-type of character, a comical relief villain. I mean he does have a comedic expression, not unlike Crocodile or anyother major villain with a great influence on the entire crew.
-
Hogback seems really sneaky to me. I think he will become the major villain in this arc. Something about him just isn't right. And how's Brooke fitting in all this? There's too much which really, really doesn't feel right.
-
Well, I though about it and that's the pairing I see:
Hogback vs. Luffy - It seems Hogback is truly the main villain, and by that he's responsible for whatever happened to Brooke [along with his shadow stolen]. Also it might be a weak apot for Chopper, so if Luffy fight he'll free both Brooke and Chooper. And that's obviously his job.
Half-horse-half-human thingy [forgot the name..] vs. Franky - Franky has that mode with backwards half-horse-half-human thingy. Plus his chin's job is still a mystery.
Hildon vs. Usopp/Sogeking - Duh.
Cerberus is pretty much dead now. Feel sorry for him.
Cindry vs. Robin - Perfect match, really. And Robin needs a fight BAD.
Invisible man/beast vs. Nami - He said he wants her, and she needs revenge. Also she always uses illusions with the Climatact, and what's more to it with an invisible man? She has this badass moment she figured out how to beat the opponent, and that's the only opponent that can give us the chance for it.
That Doggy Rider vs. Sanji - Sanji always get[+s?] those weird guys, right?
Zoro doesn't have a fight this time / He gets a fight with an unknown opponent / He gets a team fight with someone against that unknown opponent.
What do you say?
-
^ I think we should also entertain the fact that there may not be that many fights in this arc. Look at Jaya: one fight. Look at Drum Island: Two fights and a zoro pwning.
I think more likely that we'll have few fights this arc, instead of characters who've never even said a word fighting. But, you never know…
I think it's also possible that Hogback may use his creatures to fight, instead of fighting himself.
-
wow.. Oda actually putting some fanservice into his manga. Definitely a very strange arc..
-
fight pairings after 3 chapters… yeah way to go for a fruitful debate.
-
But alas, I'm not the only one who thinks Cindry is hot. ¦ D
I'll take this time to point this out: her breasts are clearly fake. Look at those stitches on her chest…She's very cute…in a Bride of Frankenstein/Sally sort of way.
-
What is it with Nami getting raped? She gets raped by Arlong, she gets raped by wax, she gets raped by spikes, she gets raped by fat guys, she gets raped with soap, she gets raped by zombies, and now she gets raped by an invisible rapist! Geez!
[/RANT]
I think Hogback has done some bad things, BUT… the real villains here could be Hildon, or even the invisible guys. -
I say Usopp didn't use Kabuto because it's on the ship and he was only going out for a joyride on the Mini-Merry 2. Why would he need a gigantic weapon like that on a joyride? Plus, he's Usopp not Sogeking.
-
@Tokoro:
She's very cute…in a Bride of Frankenstein/Sally sort of way.
Agreed 100%! Also those pictures on the walls of the dining room are very disturbing.
-
I almost agree with someone who said about this chapter is not a 1on1-battle-oriented chapter, too soon to judge though. Probably we need about two or more chapters to actually know what's actually going on. And I hope local publisher won't go crazy censoring Nami when the chapter gets here ~_~
-
Is Franky carrying a weapon and ammo? Doesn't he have enough artillery inside of him, lol.
-
You know? Pandaman should've made an appearance in this chapter as that bear skin rug.
-

Yeah, it seems this arc is like Drum. But still, it's not that there were no fights - it's that there were no characters. All characters introduced in that arc fought.
I read it again and noticed alot of stuff.
Cindry's well has a flashlight in front of it for a horror effect, lol.
Page 9 top panel, the Mona Something drawing with stiches on it, a bear carpet with stiches on it, and the cross chairs.
Almost any other item for decoration [sp?] seen has stiches on it.Though most of you already saw it, I'm slow on those stuff. Leave me alone >_>
-

Agreed! This could explain why he hasn't shown up yet…
Cause he likes to force weak women to marry him I suppose.
… or something really satanic is going to happen XD Maybe Nami is already targeted for something... that's why Cindry just wants to let Nami and Chopper enter the castle... Chopper looks weak XD
Claws? Small hands? Ectoplasm?
But when Nami tries to scream, the marks on her face look like a hand… but the marks on her arms not... huh oo"
-
Agreed 100%! Also those pictures on the walls of the dining room are very disturbing.
I like the Mona Lisa on the left.
-
Poor Nami… and poor Cerberus... but thank you though!
-
The colourspread is very nice but I wanted to see the girls, too.
The plot thickens… in this arc we get a lot of new information every chapter. It could mean that the arc will be short.
[RANT] < read at your own risk
Could do without the blatant fanservice though :getlost: :getlost: :getlost: the zombies groping Nami in the last chapter were bad enough -
I noticed that nobody is talking about this. The invisible man seems to kissing Nami, as you can see in page 16 the dent on her mouth. From that dent, you can tell that the lips are quite big…

I think that's his hand.
