With me going under surgery tomorrow to get my gallbladder removed because of gall stones. I will start a thread where people can talk about past experiences with the hospital and surgery. Sometime on Thursday I will tell my experiences with the surgery.

good luck…
never heard of stones in gallbladder before :/ -
Wiki for the win.
Gallstone ileus
A rare clinical entity is ileus (bowel obstruction) by a large gallstone, or gallstone ileus. This condition develops in patients with longstanding gallstone disease, in which the gallbladder forms a fistula with the digestive tract. Large stones pass into the bowel, and generally block the gut at the level of Treitz' ligament or the ileocecal valve, two narrow points in the digestive tract. The treatment is surgical.

ow…that sound really painful...
-
Bloody Hell that sounds bad, how old are you anyways to be suffering like that?
-
That does sound rather bad, good luck with your surgery.
I've had two surgeries, one to place my femur back into its socket, and another to remove an extra kidney tube…thing.
-
I had heart surgery when I was about three years old - best time to have any kind of surgery, really, considering my reaction. I had a blast as a little kid in the hospital, playing games and stuff and getting pretty much everything I wanted - it was awesome. Afterwards I even showed off my scar to all my friends because I thought it was so cool. The only bad experience I can remember is having a nightmare about how they put the stitches on, since they itched and burned for a while. I dreamed that they took a little spiked ball and rolled it across my chest, and it hurt a lot. Kind of funny how the worst experience was in a dream.
I do wish you luck with your surgery. The entire surgical process is pretty much as good as you make it out to be - go in with high hopes and you'll come out happy. My grandfather went in for multiple (ineffective) cancer surgeries and he was still one of the jolliest guys I've ever met during the experience. I hope to hear good things from you on Thursday.

My only story?
As a small child I was running around like a moron and ran face-first into a table-corner. It split my forehead open something fierce. Or…however you'd word it.
My friend, though?
He lost most of the 'meat' of one arm to a coat-hanger. (Long story) He had to have fake flesh and skin surgically added to his arm.
The other arm was broken in a bicycle accident when he flipped off and the bike flipped and ended up running over his arm after he was finished falling off the hill and crashing. They had to do surgery to implant metal plates and screws.
Then there was the time a pebble tore into his skull. (Long story) He refuses to go into details concerning that one.

I never had surgery in my life. Good luck there, kiksq.

I honestly did not mean that you would suffer, I just hate hospitals from past experiences. Still though, you're only fourteen and to be diagnosed with this condition is just amazingly unluckily.
Wow rereading this comment I might have sounded like a jerk, sorry Kiksq, I did not mean to come off like that.

I broke my elbow when I was 14. I had to have pins put in to make sure it healed properly. I was knocked out when they put them in.
When they took them out however….
-
Only surgery I had was a D and C. I remember going in, they put the mask on me and said "so you were saying you have dogs, how many do you have?" I said "i have three" and then was out.
Good luck on your surgery. Hope you feel better soon.
-
I've had over 20-30 surgerys done on me since i was 18 months old
For something as simple as tubes, But for some reason i need more of thembut my last major surgery was when i had to get my mastoid and other things behind the ear drained
and that invovled a DRILL
-
kiksg goodluck!! I'll pray for your safety in the surgery.
-
Well I am going to the hospital now. I will probably get a laptop. :)
I am glad all of you had safe surgeries.
-
Only time I underwent surgery was to get my tonsils removed….....yeah.
-
I've never had surgery before…I only wish you good blessings and good luck kiksg.
-
Get better soon kiksq…you should feel a lot better once you recover.
My mom had her gallbladder removed, but it wasn't for stones. The type of surgery she had was brand new at the time and she fell in the 1% of people who had a complication and almost died. But she was fine in the end fortunately. My best friend also had her gallbladder removed when she was only 15.Me, the worst that ever happened to me was breaking my collarbone when I was 3 or 4.
-
Best of luck to you.
I had surgery on my right elbow about a year ago from a backyard football incident.
They always tell you to count backwards from 10 to 0. I didn't even make it to 10 lol. =( I layed their and thought about how easy it would be to get from 10-0, and before I knew it, I was out. Damned anestetics got the last laugh their.

Hello all I am home now I got 3 small scars scattered on my stomach. I am doing better than expected and it should take 2 week to get me completely back to normal.
I have some pictures of my gallbladder and the stones, so ask nicely and I may show them to you. They didn't ask me to count down from 10 they just asked me questions until I passed out.
-
I use to think nothing of surgery until my mother told me the other day that it is the closet you'll ever come to death cause everything shuts down and the only thing keeping you going is some random doctor/nurse sqeezing a pump, breathing for you.
-
The worst that happened to me, was when I was younger I broke my arm, and lower part of my arm was in a L shape, Doctors had to brake it again to fix it. and Last year I broke both of my arms.
So Good luck with the Surgery. -

I'm glad your okay, you sound like a nice guy. And I can relate here, although I never had surgery.
Around last October, I lost my stool and had serious bowel troubles. I was constipated for days. I also went to the hospital twice for asthma attacks. I feel for you man.
-
I once had surgery to remove a metal pipe that got jammed through my arm. The worst part was I was awake through the whole operation.
-
The only surgery I had was oral. But, my friend on the other hand. She's been through alot this year. After discovering that she had a brain tumor, she spent most of this year going through different types of surgery.
