I must say, Marco looks weak.
for Shanks to invite him to join the Red Hair crew, said so much about how good Marco is….. and he isn't 1st Division Captain of Whitebeard crew for nothing.... ;)
I think that Marco looks kinda cool.
But not as cool as Shanks.
Anyone else think Blackbeard may have a Devil Fruit power? I know it's unlikely, but what with Oda's unpredictability, it could happen.
I agree with kljs- Marco looks weak, but then, so does Shanks, and he's uber-strong.
Also, technically Blackbeard is a good guy. How, I hear you ask? Well, he invaded the Drum Kingdom, didn't he? And that action made Wapol flee the country, thus freeing the nation from his tyranny.
I kinda feel sorry for that mole-guy Eneru-sama blasted on the cover.
Marco gives me that lazy fighter/sloth-ish kind of vibe. Jozu looks like a Franky opponent.
And if Marco, Ace and Jozu are his division captains, does Whitebeard have a first mate on his own division? Or is his division the 1st division, making Marco his first mate?

I've thought about that and…divisions aren't normally ranked by number meaning strength are they? I thought it was ranked by time of creation. Oh well, yeah, Marco could potentially be a big time opponent.
Also, I think that Blackbeard has some unique fighting style/martial art instead of a devil fruit. Maybe a special tech that can injure logias.
don't think we will see the fight…... we might see the outcome of the fight.....

ah,suspense.oda style.seeing the way oda wanted us to think how powerful BB is,BB winning the match is rather guaranteed.also, imo ace losing the match brings about more possibilites in the story.if BB lost, the ace/BB thing will be over.and there wont be luffy vs BB.
though,at this point,i'm more interested in whitebeard and shanks fight
I hope we can see the new ship in the next chapter….... hopefully....
I hope we'll see new bounties in the next chapter.
And I predict that we won't see too much of Ace vs. Teach, probably Ace attacking him with a named attack, and then later the outcome (Teach winning, judging by Shanks' discussion with Whitebeard).
Someone has probably mentioned this before, my theory on the ending is that Ace may not fight with Blackbeard but join sides with him to gain his trust and then at a later moment, try to take him out.
Which could make for an interesting fight down the road, saying how Blackbeard discovers Ace's true plan and kills him. With the Straw Hat's in the middle. Making Luffy and Blackbeard officially enemies.
i personally think those rings in blackbeards right hand are sea stone rings or atleast one of them is. that way blackbeard can make sure any DF user takes his full punch which i'm sure is very powerful. i don't think we will see the fight like some of you have said. i think we will see ace confront him and talk and then get into his fighting pose and turn into fire and then it will switch over to whitebeard and shanks and we will see the outcome of that. maybe at the end of the chapter we will see the outcome of the ace/blackbeard fight and i'm hoping it's going to be blackbeard standing over a bloodied ace laughing about getting that big fish he has been searching for and the chapter ends.
I dont know if anyone has mentioned this earlier but the reason Shanks put so much faith into Luffy is now clear its because Shanks knew Gold D. Roger and might have recognized him in Luffy thus "entrusting his arm to the new era"
I anticipate to see who will win this match: Shanks or Whitebeard. I had this feeling that maybe Whitebeard would kill Shanks in battle, and Luffy would avenge him.
I'm curious as to what Blackbeard did to give Shanks 3 scars.
Was it ever mentioned what Whitebeard's illness is? Was it giantism? How could giantism make him that ill?
^i tthink WB suffers from the wound Roger applied him
and i think it´s just a "fun duel"
I already posted a thread on Whitebeard's health linked to giantism.
It has to do with taller people having a harder time supplying blood and oxygen throughout the body, putting a lot of stress on their heart and lungs.
A man approaching seven feet tall already has a shorter lifespan, generally, unless they're very athletic. Considering Whitebeard's massive size, despite all his physical powerthat's a lot of strain on his body.
Hence the medical attention.
I'll be frank.
I never really got into many of the fights on my path of reading up to the latest chapter, but if we do see the Ace vs Blackbeard fight I'll be on the edge of my seat reading it for two reasons:
1. I kinda like Blackbeard. He's cool.
2. Each part of the fight will be weekly, and every week I always read the latest chapter of One Piece.
I'm definitely looking forward to this fight, if it's shown in its entirety.
We've already seen Ace in action and know he wasn't even really breaking a sweat. If Blackbeard is powerful enough to take him down it should be pretty intense.
Unless he just cheats and sics his crew on him, or uses seastone, or both.
^ So, assuming that Whitebeard has giantism, his fighting ability might not be impared at all, but instead the duration of his fights are limited, similar to Shishio Makoto from RuroKen. And I can't see Whitebeard and Shanks having a full blown fight, it seems like it would take quite a while for one of them to defeat the other, I think it's possible that we might see a Shichibukai or Marine intervention.
I wonder who the last Shichibukai will be?
@Mr.:

Concerning the Giantism, that was my point. His size allowed for greater bulk, allowing him to reach a high level of physical power…but without medical attention and blood being pumped into him, he can only go so long without fatique. The fact that a man that large has muscles like that and can go so long unattended, even for a brief fight, is impressive if that's the case.
As for intervention, I assume their duel is either on relatively easygoing-not-to-the-death terms or, yes, something interrupts it.
Well in One Piece guys take very serious wounds and treat them like nothing so i dont know if thats the case..its too real for One piece!
Being twenty feet tall with giantism doesn't happen. Nor would someone that tall possibly live to that age or still be that buff, for a human.
Thus, it's still quite unreal; taking something from reality and taking it to the next level, which anime and manga often do.

How does shanks look weak..:wassat:
Holy…
Hey am I the only one who noticed this?
In chapter 431 when Usopp is hanging out with the giants...

I know this is off the White/Red/Black follicle discussion, but holy fuck, Usopp could well be seperating from the crew.
Shanks looks like a bum.
Zephos: yeah, that's been discussed for a while. I really hope it's not just Oda trying to scare the fandom like he did with the FF during the EL Buster Call and that something interesting will really come out of it.
Shanks, Marco and Jonz all look pretty strong to me.
Johz definitly looks strong, but unfortunately he also looks like a fat primate covered in metal plates. The other two… Let's say they don't look weaker than Sengoku and Aokiji.
**Jonz looks stronger than Marco in a sense.
But, to me, shanks looks stronger than them both.**
Seriously whats the official take on his name?
Iv'e heard Jess, Jozu, now Johz and Jonz?
Sengoku doesnt look strong at all to me. Hopefully when fighting he looks abit cooler (Goat man zoan LOL!)
Rob Lucci had to be the "Strongest" looking villain to me, he just looked sinister. Arlong looked pretty strong too. Blackbeard has a brawly strength to him.
I like Jozu for his name. Jess sounds less intimidating.
Sengoku looks like he can palm strike you half-way across the world.
Sengoku has that Motown star look added to Coby style glasses that don't exactly strike fear in people's hearts. But he has the ultimate weapon in the One Piece universe; the afro haircut, so he could probably bitchslap the entire cast with one hand tied behind his back.
Crocodile and 3 out of the 5 VAs of the EL Buster Call are probably the fiercest looking antagonists introduced yet. Akainu could be scary too.
Sengoku did have an Afro in Ohara flashback and WB refered to him was one of the old age so he's probably a very powerfull guy
Not to mention he was the imortal goat with him
I wonder when we'll start getting some backstories for the One Piece villians. We hardly know much about the villians other than being evil. I'd like to know more about the villians' past. What is their motivation?
Every villain had a slight backstory.
Buggy, self explanitory.
Kuro, wanted, faked death to steal Kayas stuff
Krieg, not much, Mihawk introduced because of him.
Arlong, Jinbei.
Croc.. wanted to be Pirate King, Shichibukai
Enel, invaded Skypiea, overthrew king
Lucci, born killer. Killed at the age of 13?
Now that Oda is adding big time villains, we'll most likely get more back stories to villains. I think the peroid of random arcs are over.
I just noticed, while it's probably perspective, but does the size scale seem off for the Blackbeard crew? They were are the same height (minus Laffite) in Jaya. Yeah, probably perspective.
With that said, Laffite sure is small compared to the rest of them…

I think it's just perspective. Doc Q's pretty small, too, it's just that his added height with STronger makes him look taller. Both Lafitte and Van Auger aren't buff like Jesus and Blackbeard, but are extremely tall.
Holy…

that pic I noticed something else
the 3rd guy down the list looks so much like a Giant now
Hey Stephen, what's with the members of Whitebeard's crew calling him "dad"?
Hey Stephen, what's with the members of Whitebeard's crew calling him "dad"?
I'm not stephen, but I can answer that for you. It's likely a term of endearment that springs from the fact that he considers his crew his children.
It seems to be a practice on his crew. It hasn't been addressed directly so far, but his men all refer to him as "Oyaji" (Dad) rather than a typical captain/leader title, and it was shown through his dialogue in this chapter that he sees them as son/daughter figures.
Either that, or he's sired an entire pirate crew from his breeches.
Yo stephen, is this suppose to be chapter 434, because it is not their on the page.
You should probably refresh your cache or something then.
Johz? In all honesty, I think his official spelling of his name will be Jaws. Or has this been officialized? Meh, whatever. It's just my logical deduction… Well, except that Jaws is usualy spelled ジョーズ not ジョズ So, perhaps I'm wrong. Just tossin' my opinion out there.
If this has been discussed, I'm sorry. I'm too lazy to read through this entire thread. XD I also find most of the discussion dull, but that's also just my opinion.
You should probably refresh your cache or something then.
I don't know, chapter 434 is just not showing up, it ends at chapter 433.
First off, let me rave about the chapter…
That done, I have a question. In the translation, I got the feeling that when WB and Shanks fought, the unknown speaker was referring to something else 'splitting the heavens.' That would make for a good excuse to break up the fight. "Hey Captain! Storm's coming, let's vamoose!" (and no, no Dragon, just an ordinary storm). Any translators willing to clarify please?
BB And Ace Fight
