I love how this goes from "Oh no!" to "Oh lol" with Nayuta deciding to go along with Denji.
Chainsaw-man

Please be safe Meowy.
-
Damn, that's some horrifying shit.
Also, Denji just keeps looking like Estradiol would fix her.
-
Poor dogs.
On the one hand, events seem to be speeding up and I appreciate that we get to witness Denji's turmoil. It makes him much more human than most shonen protagonists out there.
On the other hand, no Chainsaw Man and Denji constantly apathetic is slowly turning into a very real frustration. -

Bigger frustration bigger catharsis
-
@pariston_hill I hear ya. Fingers crossed!
-
Everyone is trying to break Denji to push him in a certain direction. He'll snap, but we don't know what's he going to do.
-
ok not the pets its slaughter him to a nano dust time
also is this a spider man 2 reference -

The dogs did it.
Next chapter will be a while, second week of January in fact. C'm'on Denji, don't let the wait be in vain ! -
Guess who's back? Back again.
-
Poor Nayuta. I hope that she gets to save the doggies...
-
Chainsaw Blood starts playing in the background.
-
denji is really just spider man but worse
i know this is heading towards a climax soon and we'll see either a resolution(assuming she dies) or full blown development for asa/yoru's character involving denji but I wish there was more time in the oven. Yeah the earlier parts were slow but I'm almost certain we are not getting the quiet time/development/relationship building in a slower-paced setting for both of them. I care more about Asa as a character than her relationship with Denji even if they go hand in hand and for once I hope Fujimoto doesn't kill her off since he already did that with Aki/Power. But Fujimoto killing her off is least of my worries considering he likely has something more twisted in mind. You kind of have to expect her to have a sorry end coming at this point. We'll see but I genuinely can't find myself to care about the antagonist group except Fami maybe.
-
A climax to this arc, sure, but I don't think we're anywhere close to the climax of part 2. This defo feels like the midway point for the story, where all the bullshit they have been doing to keep Denji and Asa away from each other is going to come crashing down and Denji choses to take matters into his own hands finally.
-
@black-leg-jex I'm actually betting on this being the climax of part 2. Everything before this felt, for a lack of a better word, "chill" and some people might even say mundane. The building blocks have been, well, built. This is the same for part 1 where you get devil of the week in your slice of life moments and then something happens and then something crazier happens and then it becomes a rollercoaster. It's very Fujimoto so I'm rather certain that we are heading to the climax for this part. Obviously I might be wrong but I also don't think Fujimoto cares for doing tropes such as the hilarious tease of "csm part 2 will be the high school arc" and then make this one arc and we go back to our high school-esque/slice of life format. Everything built up before has accumulated to whatever that is going to happen now. Attachment to Nayuta and Asa/yoru has been established and the readers are invested. So he knows that the payoff is due.
-
@zeltrax225 we certainly won't be going back to the high school stuff but that doesn't mean it's going to be ending soon. We might ginally get the Asa X Denji fight in this arc but they've been building up to Death as the final antagonist and they're not meant to appear just yet. So I feel like after this arc is done the next arc is going to be one about Asa and Denji actually bomding again, now that both of them know everything.
-
@black-leg-jex that would be the normal and comfortable way to go about it. And personally, I'll agree with you that I want that. Lovebirds teaming up/friends teaming up to take down a big bad is very shounen and comfy.
But with how Fujimoto treats his protagonist and how he tends to be more on the tragedy side of things? I'll doubt that which is why I'm more on the side that everything goes to shit and in his fashion it only hurts because he spent so much time on his characters (to the point that people found part 2 rather slow) before crushing them all tragically and making the story takeaway something bittersweet.
-
@zeltrax225 That still doesn't really explain Death to me though. Fujimoto has set stuff up like the Gun devil in the past, only to make it less of a focus suddenly, but the Gun devil still showed up and was fought. It was a plotpoint that was created and paid off. Death needs to go the same way and I just don't see Death showing up now in this arc. They seemed to imply it had some kind of set date they are expecting it and getting ready for. So the story still has to continue after this arc for me, and I can't see it continuing without Asa and Denji around.
-
@black-leg-jex it won't be surprising if he treated death like he treated the gun devil though. E.g: gun was built up to be a major threat that they all have to work to take down but was instead used for reasons that no one saw coming (which is to break denji, makima already has it, to kill aki off in a tragic way). Which is really to say it's not going to happen the way it is supposed to happen but it will still be impactful.
Gun showed up of nowhere in relative to what was happening to the plot then because in the same way that we don't know what is fully happening behind the scenes right now, we didn't know back then either. I don't want to put all my chips into saying that death will appear now because yes it makes a lot of sense for him to be THE endgame devil but I also don't want to discount the possibility of him making an appearance, fuck everything up, and still exist as the endgame devil for the series that we'll deal with in the later/final arc.
But anyway, that's not really my point. Denji will still be around but whether Asa/Nayuta will still maintain their plot roles going ahead is debatable (I'll argue no). I...don't want another case of power/aki again with Asa/Nayuta and while I don't think that will happen, I also don't think an Asa+Nayuta+Denji on one side vs the "bad" guys on another side will happen either. I think what I am trying to say is this, that when you consider everything that has happened (presumably we are only at the beginning of this arc) so far, the only fujimoto outcome we can expect is for everything to go down badly and the character status quo will be changed drastically (maybe not death but something else). And I don't think things will go back to "normal" after this arc which makes this the arc for the climax of part 2.
Death as an endgame/the greatest threat/the enemy that denji has to defeat as a resolution to his character arc is definitely possible and the story continuing on is still possible. But I'm certain that if that does happen, it will be either a part 3 or everything will no longer be the same. And that will be after this arc.

Agreed.

I don't think he will go Araki route. I think part 2 ends stuff.
-
Oh no Nayuta. Run.
-
I had a hard time following the action in this chapter.
-
Long story short: Denji is losing it ?
But yeah, some scenes I had to read twice to be sure what was going on. Art felt scribblier than usual, although maybe this is a misinformed conception and checking past chapters might prove me wrong. -
@Seafarer33 said in Chainsaw-man:

On this case it might be optional, to contrast Denji losing and reverting to exhilarating brutal violence.
Also a more apt comparison to Denji losing, is an addict relapsing.
I'm addicted to the feeling
Getting higher than the ceiling
And we're never gonna want this fucking feeling to end
Just concede and give in to your inner demons again -
They were not prepared for some unhinged chainsaw action.
-
Nayuta for the rescue.
-
My precious idiot daughter to the rescue!
-
Damn Mifune you bitch.
-
I don't want her to die, Denji deserves a family.
-
Asa, please save my daughter.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUJIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS

God, my poor daughters.
-
happy lucky konnichiwa baby :(
-
You gotta hand it to Fuji: there may be some deep flaws in this part 2, but he sure knows how to place his characters in a desperately fucked up situation.
-
Damn you gov't dogs.
-
Jesus, what a dark fate.
Only an autistic girl could save the day!
-
Note to self: with Fuji, never ever ever ask how things can get worse.
-
Jailbreak klutz
-
Just wow, Asa is such a klutz.
-
Jacobin devil and the losers club.
-
The guillotine devil had seen better days. I really like its design, still.
-
oooh I want to see a full Guilhotine reveal!!!
-
Katana fight
-
Guillotine left us too soon. I wonder how much of what the dude buying time said was true. Are people still turning into chainsawman, and randomly at that?

War diplomacy

I don't say this often with Chainsaw Man, but this chapter fell flat on me.
Too much talking maybe, and not even the interesting kind ? Other than freeing Denji and finding out Nayuta's fate, nothing really pulls my strings at the moment. I'm not all that much invested in Asa, because she fell out of the story right when her relation to Denji was getting interesting and we've been stuck with CSM Church nonsense ever since. Fami is kind of a disappointment compared to when she was able to summon the Fall devil. I'm not even sure how relevant the human tagalong guys are supposed to be, if at all. All I want is to have Denji back in the story, it's not the same without him.
Initially it seemed like Fuji had some master plan involving Chainsawman and the Four Riders and maybe on some level we're still following that. But recent chapters feel like he decided Highschool Klutz Grand Awkward Rescue was a better direction and he's winging it without much of a care for the overall plot.
-
Puzzlesaw man
-
I was wondering why Asa didn't want to see the weiner, I had forgotten she didn't know chainsawman is Denji. She 100% would have wanted to see it otherwise.
-
Boxed Denji was every bit as creepy as I'd expected.
I have contradictory feelings as to Quanxi. I'm always glad to see her, however this is beginning to feel like we're recycling the same old cast over and over again. Come on ! We were promised the 4 Riders, but after Fall all we got is a famished Famine and an angsty War. Can't we get a little bit overboard with the devils? -
oooooooooooooooooh i'm hyped for some Quanxi swordplay
