Bogard and Denden Mushi in live action.
That Bogard looks great. It's a shame he's been forgotten in the manga, but I'm grateful he looks great here.
That Denden Mushi looks terrible, but I think that's all we can expect from it.
Captain Morgan looks like an asshole, and that might just be perfect casting.
Edit: In hindsight I phrased this poorly. The Denden Mushi looks terrible because it looks terrible in the original material. Like, that Denden looks horrifying because it's true to the manga and anime.
-
I love the Den Den Mushi. They're accurate, they look realistic, and they're the precise initially-offputtingly weird that OP has been since day one. I can't imagine them being any better.
-
I mean, yeah, that's what giant snails would look like outside of Oda's art style.
-
These snails are fully animatronic! I definitely trust this team to do Chopper justice. Here's hoping season 1 is a success and we can get a season 2!

Imma quote this one for truth.
When I saw the firt image with Garp and his den den mushi I was a bit disappointed, thinking they tried to go "realistic" and had changed the looks too much, but after scrolling and seeing the other den den mushi I realized Garp is using a megaphone snail, hence it's little conch.
They are huge ass snails with bulging eyes.
They are weird and slimmy and perfect. -
@andre
I think for Chopper they might do a reverse, use a outcast human who ate a reindeer fruit, would help them to keep the budget in check.
Though I would love to see them do the original story, reindeer with a human fruit.1 week to go, I cannot wait for the LA to come out.
-
Iñaki Godoy met Eiichiro Oda in Japan!!!
-
The select group of humans who knows Oda's true face has a new member.
I'm unexpectedly hyped after seeing such an awesome Boggard! I still think that Arlong is unsalvageable, but I think it'll be a fun adventure. In the end that's all there's to it...
Do you guys thinks that some little hints about Nika are going to be around earlier in the LA series?

1 week to go, I cannot wait for the LA to come out. That's one way to do it, but I think Chopper could be done pretty well if they team up with The Jim Henson company and develop a slick puppet like the ones in Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, or even just one similar to/as good as Yoda.

Zara clothing line to be announced... but yeah netflix is burying it because they have no faith.
-
Anyone else here in AP Forums is attending the episode 1 screening later tonight in Santa Monica?

What do you mean by "Netflix is burying it"?

Multiple people have claimed Netflix is not doing much to advertize this show because they’re sitting on a huge flop.
-
@dropper it’s sarcasm directed at people claiming Netflix is burying it and not promoting jt enough.
A friend was at Petco Park in San Diego yesterday and found a promotional booth nearby.
-
Not required to make a great adaptation, but I wonder if Steve and Matt are fully caught up to the manga. I am surprised that a few animators read it weekly at times.
For some of the American comic book adaptations, some of the creatives and actors have been tripped up by saying they've read source material when they really didn't. Only to promote or convince fans that are swayed by that.
-
I can bet good money that Matt Owens is caught up with the manga.
-
I'm so hyped to watch this with my girlfriend! The 31st can't get here soon enough!
-
I cant watch on the 31st. Have some vital shit coming up. I bought a Netflix account tho.
-
It's nice to see a lot of activity with this! I'll open a subforum for this soon and move this thread over. Can I rely on you guys to make the new threads as new episodes come out?
-
I think they are all coming out at the same, right?
-
I'd like to jot down/overview my thoughts for each episode individually, even though Netflix is releasing them together(?).
-
Is that how it works!? It's nice to look forward to something every week though...
-
Oh, I prefer that, too. It also keeps up hype and discussion for a series much longer. But as far as I know, that's how Netflix usually handles new seasons or shows.

It's all at once.

Hearing there's at least one in the discord. For the people watching it right now, feel free to make the first episode thread for it!
-
I think Crossword’s anime episode template can easily be replicated to make the threads for the netflix episodes.
-
Yeah that might ease me into Zoro, but it anime Luffy's voice coming out of that face is too weird.
-
I thought about watching it dubbed, so the German dub to relive the memories of my early childhood, but at the moment I might go with the OV, voice actors can make a show better but also worse and it all depends on the cast if the show is succeeding or not.
Incase the OV turns me off the LA I might switch to the German dub later on.How much do you know about the LA?
I for myself avoided all articles about the show and just saw the Netflix trailers and the WIRED "interview". -
expecting a second season just by the amount of people that are curious about it, but also expecting an axe after season 2.
People will realize after 1-2 weeks that the OPLA is actually pretty bad (i mean, just anyone well versed in film technique can see from the trailer that it's absolutely amateurishly done. Quite embarassing and terrible.) Maybe it'll have a better reputation than Bebop, but a 4/10 being better than a 2/10 doesn't make it good.Prediciting a flop in public opinion and rottentomatoes reviews shortly after the show is out and betting on reviews really honing in on how awful it's produced.
predicting a "success" as in, a second season gets greenlit. -
What is the target audience, because based on episode 1 spoilers from the other thread, this sounds like it's going for mature.
like what zoro is doing with mr 7
unless my ears are failing, that doesn't sound like Arlong's usual voice. Is it only the Straw Hats that kept their original VAs??
edit: no, Roger and Buggy sound the same, so maybe it's just him? -

“Fun” story
The two Reddit dudes were friends who got access due to their female friend working at Netflix. They never asked her for permission and Netflix tracked it back to her. Got fired with no severance. -

(Yes, he’s the asshole)

@Nami way to screw over a friend just for some internet clout :/

I just want to say one thing.

I think it'll be most enjoyable to me in English, but Chiba's Buggy is too fun so I'll peek later for him. :)
-
His office is freaking amazing. I know it's been filmed before, but I bet there will be a hundred youtube videos breaking down the things in it.

Tekking can make a living out of it for at least 2 years.
-
I cannot watch the Japanese dub cause of....you know face mimics when talking and everything. I'll nicely stick to English. The way it was made and intended. Real-life dubs are horrible in any language.

edit: no, Roger and Buggy sound the same, so maybe it's just him?Jurota Kosugi has only done two projects since 2016, and nothing at all since 2020. (on Wikipedia anyway). and he spent several years before that going from 4 shows a year to 1. And he's 65, maybe he's retired?
Voice work isn't exactly stressful but he was clearly slowing down what he was doing for some reason or another.
-
@blue-san can you put the episode writers and directors in their respective opening posts?

@Nami Jesus that's awful.
