Its seems like maybe they realized phase 4 burned out the audiences, taxed the CG artists, and led to lower overall quality and critical reception.
They can have a few stumbles but they can't have 10 in a row and have a healthy long term.
-
Slow and steady win the race, after all.
As long as they don't take forever on Loki Season 2.
-
sigh Did being Kang mess with you, Majors?

Waiting for the full story to come out. On the one hand, the woman apparently already recanted the report and lawyers say there’s video evidence proving his innocence. On the other, directors that have worked with Majors have come out saying Majors is shady.
Either way, things don’t look good for Majors. They already took down his Army ads. Think if Disney plays it smart, depending on how this plays out, if Majors comes out as innocent, they’ll wait for this to blow over. If not, we’ll, it’s not like people don’t want rewrites anyways.
-
Eh, worst case scenario they'd probably just recast him. Wouldn't be the first time.

Not saying he is or isn't guilty, but that kinda seems like a really shitty thing to do when nothing has been proven yet. Imagine being persecuted for a serious crime, but innocent, and some of your colleagues immediately jump in front of a mike to tell the world what an ass you are.
Anyway, I hope these allegations are wrong, obviously. That would certainly majorly suck for the future of the MCU if they had to let Majors go since they would have to completely rebuild their plans for the near future. Plus, Majors portrayal as Kang is one of the few things basically everyone agrees was really strong about Ant-Man 3.
-
Also, the allegations being true would mean that Majors has abused and hurt a lot of people, so theres also that.
-
And this all comes with the revelation that Quantummania is going to earn even less money overall than the first and second Ant Man film.
-
@Riddler said in Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs:That would certainly majorly suck for the future of the MCU if they had to let Majors go since they would have to completely rebuild their plans for the near future.
They wouldn't have to restructure anything. The entire point of Kang is multiverse different versions and different idenities. The first two overlapped but the other 87 don't need to, especially if they throw the same costume on there.
Plus its not like they didn't already recast several characters along the way.
-
What's a shame is that Majors has been killing it as Kang. It would be hard to cast another actor to take over.

Secret Invasion is officially out June 21:

They have recast roles for supporting characters like Rhodey (who is not top 2 billing) before the MCU could leave the 1st Phase. Since then, there's not many examples of main antagonist or MCs being switched out while holding the same importance.
It's already confirmed that Kang Dynasty has him as the protagonist like Thanos for Infinity War. Plus, Loki S2 is shot and he's in it based on last Summer's teaser trailer.
When they changed Red Skull's actor, he wasn't as important in the return for Infinity War and has a face covered in red in the return. Thanos performer was swapped out before he could be the protagonist for Infinity War and his initial performer was only in a small scene.
William Hurt was still 4th to Liv (2nd) and Roth (3rd) in billing. Ever since then he hasn't been a main antagonist and the disdain from some in the audience made it easier to recast once he passed away. Now Harrison is confirmed to be the main antagonist for New World Order.
I don't know which way they go with this performer, but there is an excuse to get him outta here (already stated) and keep him.
Anyway, Liv Tyler is back to be Betty.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/captain-america-liv-tyler-betty-ross-1235361579/
Many are calling New World Order a "Hulk film", but I disagree.
1st, as much as Ross is the Hulk's guy, Ross has been passed around to oppose other heroes before.
2nd, Ross was trying to get the Super Soldier Serum, which is a Cap narrative. His program where he uses Banner is to recapture what the SS program started. The prototype by Erskine that messed up Red Skull is due to the lack of radioactive rays. It's why gamma rays were the route and Bruce was the guy.
3 - Leader is the perfect option with Joaquin (Falcon) confirmed. Leader replaces Dr. Malus from Spencer's Sam Wilson run. Malus is the reason why Joaquin was transformed and also behind Ross Red Hulk transformation.
4 - Hulk and Cap are due to taking advantage of the mindset of the time. War inspiring the patriotic way and a nuclear threat scaring the hell out folks to the point of thinking that they could mutate.
With Thunderbolts following New World Order and Ross confirmed to be in both films, I think Squadron Supreme of America might be the route they take.

Ooo, Spider-verse is making an animated short about Miles before the movie!

Which makes me worry that we'll never see it.
-
With Universal losing the rights of the Hulk stuff in June. I won't be surprise if Marvel begins to setting up for World War Hulk/Red Hulk stuff for the MCU.
-
I’d be shocked if that’s what they go to considering how divisive the Red Hulk stuff was in the comics.

Jackson, this is probably the most hyped-up I've been for an MCU series since WandaVision.

New trailer for spider-verse dropped.
International version opens differently. Despite the implications I don’t think this is a sign of things to come in the movie. Still, thought the opening was worth a mention.

After this one we can finally move forward as a society and just not make multiverse movies for a while, thank you

Specifically any involving Spider-Man.
If I see one more movie or tv show adapting Spider-Verse…….even the fucking Comics can’t help themselves.
-
I can't wait to see Gwen and Peter B. Parker again. Miles kicking Spider-Man 2999's ass should be a lot of fun, too.
-
@puffing-cinema Bad news. They announced 2 years ago that this is a 2 part deal like Deathly Hollows.
Last year, they renamed the 2nd part from "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part 2" to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
@Time-Control-Magician Series already confirmed at Amazon
-
I'll let the second one slip...
-
I feel like "where are the Avengers?" is something we're going to hear in a lot of the MCU series.
-
My favorite MCU character. Fury is the GOAT

I just realized little Mayday probably came with Peter because she's another little mini-spider.

I do wish there wasn't this extended break in the Avengers. I think it adds a bit too much self-importance to the team from an out-of-universe perspective.

Feige said that Avenger films should be end of Saga films and it's weird because I said that before. Just fits that those big event stories end things. Recently watched Icon Uncovered: Marvel on VICE and it's mostly things I know like how they brought Straczynski in for Thor because of his vol 3 run where Thor is in Oklahoma, the pressure of making Cap 1 and Thor from the view of the writers, Ike's power struggle with Disney and Feige, etc.
I've seen some complain about whether Marvel Studios should use film writers or comic writers on different platforms and it makes me assume that they don't know the well documented process and even in credits. That studio uses all 3 - film, comic, and TV writers. Favreau and Feige had multiple comic writers write and consult on Iron Man.
To me, there's 4 categories
Solo - Iron Man 2, Thor, Doctor Strange - just 1 franchise lead and their support
Solo w/ another lead - Thor 3 (Bruce), No Way Home (Strange), Homecoming (Tony) - lead with another heavily featured franchise lead
Mini Event - Civil War (Tony, Scott) is the only one so far. Not an Avenger film. It's the closest to it with multiple leads
Avenger film - 4 released so farWhat I think they go onto do is increase the amount of "mini event" films to satisfy the need for Avenger films that don't release until the end of Sagas going forward. I think the next Shang Chi will be the Mini Event before the 2 Avenger films - Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Shang Chi was positioned as a key ingredient to Kang's defeat when Bruce, Wong, and Carol struggled to identify what exactly is the makeup and purpose of the rings.
My fear is that Marvel Studios also increase the amount of Solo w/ lead films and have less solo projects. I really enjoy newer characters having the space to be introduced like Moon Knight, Ant Man, Strange w/o another lead being so embedded in their story. Homecoming wasn't so bad with Peter being introduced in CW by Tony, but then the next film his enemy is again related to Tony in some way.
The intimate solo films or series just come off way better. They manage to establish that yes, this is the Marvel world, but there is more to cherish when it's just the character and their support.
I seen Peter get this treatment and worry about F4 and X-Men. These are groups and they have their own support whether those characters are fighters or not. I mentioned this on the MCU sub before and they mostly said they didn't care if F4 and X-Men's Ned, MJ, or Aunt May were in the films or not.
May didn't have a job until it was time for her to die in the 3rd film and was just a flirt for Tony or a temporary girlfriend for Happy in most of that franchise. That still bothers me.
F4 have a bunch of supporting characters to choose from. MCU have shown that a character can appear in 1 issue and be a main antagonist or create an original character for whatever purpose.
Roberta, Walter Collins, Alicia, Roberta, Willie, Wyatt, Carol Landers, and the already in play Agatha. Any of these characters can suffer the fate of Aunt May by having them take the backseat to an established MCU character and I hope it doesn't happen.
Oh yeah, it is out
What I look forward to in this film
-
Yon Rogg return
-
Monica's interactions with her hero/possible conflict with her absence
-
GOAT MCU character Fury in this as a follow up to him dealing with Skrulls, now the Kree
-
More clues as to what exactly makes one a Mutant
-
What is making them go in and out

i found the last Captain Marvel to be okay. This one looks a heck of a lot cooler. That might be in part due to the trailer music, but the dynamic between the three heroines looks fun.
-
@Cockycent said in Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs:
I seen Peter get this treatment
Like 99% of the choices they made with Peter were a result of there having been 5 previous Spiderman series within the 15 years before they did Civil War. How old Peter was, skipping uncle Ben, the friends they gave him, having MJ but not Mary Jane, tying him so closely to Tony, etc.
If Sony hadn't done the two Amazing movies and there'd been a 10 year gap between the Raimi films rather than the 2 year gap... we would almost certainly have gotten a very, very different version.
When they get to Fantastic Four they're gonna have to skip or speedrun the origin story for similar reasons (and hopefully keep Doom out of the first film) BUT it will have actually been a solid decade, and no one cares about the 2015 film, so it'll actually have been almost 20 years since the last one anyone cared about... so they'll probably be able to stay truer to the source material rather than reacting to the previous version, than they could for SPidey.
-
@Robby My issue isn't whether or not they give me what i've seen in Semper's animated series, Raimi's trilogy, 2010 films etc.
I actually like that I don't have to go through those story bits again. It would be a headache.
My gripe is that the supporting characters that were chosen to be in the story - May, Ned, MJ, are barely present in the story compared to Happy and Tony.
Why couldn't Aunt May have this job in Far From Home or Homecoming, even if it's just mentioned.
Valkyrie and Loki were still fleshed out and used well in Ragnarok, even with Hulk taking up much screen time.
Sacrificing a characters support for other established characters from the MCU hasn't paid off for me.

Immediate bonus points for using Intergalactic as a trailer song. Other than that, looks way more fun than Captain Marvel was. Maybe due to Ms. Marvel being adorable and Captain Marvel being put in funnier situations.
-
-
I agree, this looks like it will be a lot of fun! I wasn't a big fan of the original movie, so I'm really happy that the trailer managed to make me hyped for the sequel. Those trailer guys at Marvel studios know what they are doing.

As a movie, I’m hopeful. As part of the MCU, I’m bummed how this muddles with the timeline of Secret Invasion. Because either Secret Invasion occurs first (it’ll air first), and this will possibly show that there are little to no repercussions from Secret Invasion on the film (and Fury’s alright), or this occurs first, and Secret Invasion will either spoil or not be impacted by the film. Consequences of delays no doubt but this seems muddled.

Fury has a giant beard in SI and doesn't in Marvels. Its safe to say its second.
Of course, he could be a skrull again.

Oh no, you're not the only one. I think most of us have just given in b/c her character otherwise is done so well.

‘ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE’ will reportedly have a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes.
That is the longest animated film in Western history. And not counting anime films that are recobbled tv series like Yamato or Tomorrow's Joe its in the top 10.
And its only PART ONE.
We're in for something
(The first movie was 117 minutes, just under two hours. )
-
Really? The longest? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, takes a lot longer to animate than to film.
-
Animated films rarely go past 90 minutes. Incredibles and Cars are the longest Pixar films an at 107. The original Toy Story is only 76 minutes but given the limits of the tech at the time that's pretty understandable.
For the hand drawn Disney films, Saludos AMigos is only 42 minutes and Fantasia is just over two hours... though its a weird case given its live intermissions and how its a bunch of separate shorts. Most of the films clock at 80-90.
The longest animated films (that aren't tv compilations) are Akira at 124 minutes, Spirited Away, A Slient Voice, Bakshi Lord of the RIngs, Princess Mononoke, Tale of Princess Kaguya, Evangelion 4.0, and Space Battleship Yamato Final Chapter at 163 minutes. (Not a compilations like I thought!)
And while Princess Mononoke earned every minute of its screentime and could have even been longer, Princess Kaguya really, really didn't need to be 137 minutes. 20 or 30 minutes shorter and it might have been far more entertaining.
-
Wasn't The Long Halloween just a bit under three hours? I know it was originally released on two DVDs but those came out only a few weeks apart so it was probably more WB deciding to make more money off it by breaking it in half than anything else.
-
@Ubiq Grey area, but I think they still technically count as two separate films. By that same token, you could say Kill Bill 1 and 2 are one movie since that was Tarantino's original intention.
Regardless, Across the Spider-verse would still be the longest running animated film with a theatrical run.

Why am I not surprised that nearly all of those are Japanese (and three Ghibli!). They are dedicated to the art. Maybe because more Japanese acknowledge that. Animating Akira must have been a BITCH.
Also not surprised that Fantasia is so long, b/c it was Walt's dream project. (needs more love from people)

I don't see a problem with that; the only reason Kill Bill is two films is because executives were wary about the idea of releasing a four hour film into theaters. It was shot as one film and eventually released as a single film since that was what Tarantino intended. Same for The Long Halloween since it got a single disk release as a complete film.
Regardless, Across the Spider-verse would still be the longest running animated film with a theatrical run.
Well, that is true; TLH was one of the DCAU films that didn't get a theatrical release.

As much as I loved the Spider-Verse movie, with that length it's going to suffer from pacing problems. Now it's also possible that it'll have scenes that make it worth it in spite of that, but I can't imagine it won't be noticeable during it's runtime.

I dunno. Lord and Miller haven't really missed yet.
Clone High, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Lego Movie, both 21 Jump Street movies, Spiderverse... and I haven't seen The Afterparty TV series but its well reviewed. Even the stuff they only had writing duties, or only directing duties, ame out pretty good.
