Loved Bowser, and Toad kinda works. But Chris Bratt just decided not to work, uh? Such a shame.
Brazilians please check the dub version, our voice acting is superior in every role.

Did anyone actually wanted to Chris to try to sound like Italian?
Nope, but did anyone expected him to just give up and use his regular voice?
I mean, he even bragged about it: https://www.polygon.com/23181389/chris-pratt-mario-movie-voice-change

Yup. Jack Black so far seems to be the only one pulling it's weight on the EN version.
@puffing-cinema is that
i'm fine with chris!mario being ehhhh if jack!bowser is this good
Surprising French dub :O
Couldn't they get the guy who voiced him in the old cartoon? (or, if he's dead and I don't know it, this should be the best example)
But man, Jack Black is killing it.

Lou Albano? Yes, I'm afraid he's very dead.

Lou Albano’s been dead for quite some time. Even not he’d be far too old for the role on top of not being as well known.
I think the trailer people even realize what's up. Bowser has the entire trailer and Mario gets like two lines at the end.
@pariston_hill I couldn't tell for sure, but I don't think it's him. None of his manneirisms are in the trailer.
It’s Illumination. Try isn’t part of the vocabulary. But c’mon. The last line. Couldn’t even attempt a Here We GOOoOoO!!!!!!?!?!?!?

Probably would. Could still serve as an example for whoever voiced him next. Cheezy Italian accent only works for the games, but giving him a bland "accent" doesn't work either.
Guys, check the French Dub!!! Their Mario is off the charts!
Damn Jack Black is crazy good

Apparently he is going with his Superman's voice here.
I hope Nintendo animation studios grows and goes toe to toe with Disney and Universal.
One can only dream but the scene (I get there are indies) need more competition.
I mean, I would rather they being a game company first, animation studio second, but it seems to work with Sony.
I wouldn’t say the cheesy accent works either since it can come off too stereotypical or just plain corny.
I mean if we’re being technical Sony like Nintendo originally was not a game company.
Second trailer coming tomorrow, and some new leaks surfaced today:
Gonna take time to get used to Mario & Luigi wearing polo shirts.
Peach's face does not look right to me.
Are we gonna get a Nintendo shared universe lol
Please anything but that.

Uncanny Valley.

That's just the shading hitting it at a bad angle so its greating really strong shadows below the lip and on the jawline. I run into this problem while coloring ALL THE TIME, it's pretty normal. Normally I have to work and cheat it to avoid it looking bad. Generally I'll adjust the light source to avoid those kinds of stong shadows or I'll make the nose shadow longer to give a more obvious anime triangle shading look which makes the structure look better.
They could have also rotated her like 5 degrees to the right and that would have fixed it, I don't know why they didn't given its a CG model and not a drawing.
It's extra silly since every single character on there is being lit from different directions, including Toad being the opposite direction, so it's not like they were locked into a light source... it's just them lazy cutting and pasting existing shots onto the poster.
Going by the first poster, I'm glad Luigi seems to retain some personality, which I like. Love my man Luigi. Though what the hell does "You just got Luigi'd" mean??

That's New York, right? And not New Donk...?
And is that, by any chance, Pauline in the background?
In a few mins:
As usual, keeping his lines to a minimum.
Yup. that was terrible casting choice.
Charlie Day is perfect as Luigi. Also I really like Anna Taylor- Joy's performance as Peach so far.

I thought the Yahoo! at the end was pretty good.
Sad we saw Peach with an axe instead of a frying pan, but everything else was pretty good IMO

I agree. But so far, not letting them off the hook because a single well delivered line.
“There’s a huge universe out there with a lot of galaxies, there counting on us”
I told you guys! There making a Nintendo shared universe
Can’t wait to see Captain Falcon
Holy shit. The Brazilian Dub's voice for Luigi is the same one as Sonic!
Luigi sounds great. Didn't get to hear Seth Rogen say a thing. And one "Lets-a-go" and "Yahoo" hasn't saved Chris Pratt's performance.
Mamoru Miyano as Mario
Arisa Shida as Peach
Tasuku Hatanaka as Luigi
Kenta Miyake as Bowser
Tomokazu Seki as Toad
Miyano lolll
Guy must be having the time of his life after getting in the DB movie
Isn't Tomokazu Seki Lucci's voice actor?
Welp, I though Peach's weapon of choice was a moody umbrella. Not a huge fan of her design btw, she looks a LOT like instagram influencers after facial fillers.
Chris Pratt really didn't make any effort, did he? It's just his regular voice, lol. Anya's really didn't was what I was expecting also, I was with something more bubbly on my mind.
The kart scene makes me thing that they will try to push a lot of content into the movie which means the storyline wiill probably be as weak as it is in the games. Not that I was expecting a Citizen Kane, but the humor is classic Ilumination hurr durr humor and with the storyline out of the window I think it'll be a weak screening for me.
Huh, this movie is looking a little more complicated than I'd expect, and what I expected was an adventure against Bowser. No, instead we have Smash Bros and Mario Kart in this thing too. It's not necessarily bad, but I'm curious how this'll all fit in, assuming these aren't just scenes from a montage.
Other than that, the style, acting, and animation all look decent. Nothing great, but it's not looking like a bad video game movie yet.
@puffing-cinema said in The Super Mario Bros. Movie:

No, that's Hiroaki Hirata. Tomokazu Seki is Rob Lucci and Hattori.
But like any good seiyuu he's quite ranged.
Really curious to know who @Satsuki misread in my first question
Hiroaki Hirata is Sanji. Tomokazu Seki is Lucci.
Another trailer surfaced in Dutch with more footage:
Man, the people cutting the trailer at least know that Mario's voice is bad, they're really putting in effort to work around him and include what they can of the catch phrases.
Meanwhile Koopa and Luigi are getting full conversations. (Jack Black is KILLING it.)
@onemoment said in The Super Mario Bros. Movie:I'm curious how this'll all fit in, assuming these aren't just scenes from a montage.
You don't CG render a whole boatload of unique go-karts and bikes for a throwaway montage. They could do that in 2D but in 3D that's a substantial bit of asset investment, so its definitely going to be at least a full scene.
It's not like they could just take the game assetts and uprez them for theatrical.
Mario being bad at his own video game type platforming was not something I saw coming, is it going to be like a training montage?
But seeing how he gets his ass kicked by DK maybe he’s just like inherently bad at what he usually is good at in his games, and figures it out at the end or something
But if he’s not the badass platfomer he is in the games then I wonder why they need him to save them, what makes him special
If you want to look at it from a different perspective Mario was not good at some of the things he’s currently good at. For example platforming?
Super Mario Bros 1 has aged horribly as a platformer. And the series didn’t really hit it’s stride until the 3rd game. Now after all these games Mario has the platforming down to a science. Mario was nothing special in the original Mario Kart and I don’t know when but Mario was eventually pegged as a jack of all trades esque (to lazy to remember the exact trope) character, a character whose pretty easy to use but far from being the best character in the games.
As for why does the mushroom kingdom need him to save them from Bowser won’t know until the movie answers that question but don’t be too surprised if they leave it unanswered
All of this Mario stuff is making me really want Mario Odyssey 2 or a new Donkey Kong Country
Adorable on a stick. The composer is doing a great job incorporating the themes. I mean really, the only bad part so far is Chris Pratt . . . but that's so important!
Brazilian dub will lick it clean for us, thanks Nika.
I popped for Toad’s house being used in that scene.
