I think there was a flashback that pretty much says he wasn't on God Valley during that fight?
Like BM asking where he is and when he hears news of Rocks defeat it seems like he had nothing to do with that.

@statu-variabilis he was there at God Valley, big mom gave him his fruit in order to save his life when the God Valley incident happened.
-
Do we even know that Van Augur can teleport things without also teleporting himself? That doesn't seem to be the case to me.
-
Any idea on what Kuma’s race is Greg? Or where his story will go from here if they save him?
Edit: Also do you think Aokiji is the tenth titanic captain? I assumed he wasn’t because they said Black Beard had ten titanic captains back at Dressrosa and that was before him and Burgess were discussing whether Aokiji should join or not, so I didn’t think it would make sense for him to have already been a known member of the group
-
This is just my own guess, but could Kuma's mystery race be like some sort of "Half-Giant" people? Like, they're still in the range of normal human height in the OP world, but they have longer lifespans, and stronger natural physical prowess like a giant.
If this is right, then could there be sub-races of them like how Giants have the Ancient and Mystery Giants, and that is what Kaido actually is?
-
Re: warping. We know jack other than that he can teleport himself now. Anything I posted above is entirely conjecture which is why I'm not married to any ideas. While I'd like to think he could teleport back then, I have no clue whether he actually could or not.
Kuma race might be what BB is, meaning the whole not-sleeping thing. If that's just a race thing of course. It might be he just has some sort of defect but Marco's 'unusual body' comment is not much to go on.
-
So who are the three races that Big Mom doesn't have on her island? I always assumed it was Giant, Oni, and Lunarian but I guess an Oni isn't actually considered a race? My guess is that Ancient Giants are just seen as the same race as Giants, even though Oars and Oars Jr clearly have a lot of differences from regular giants (being more like Oni). Unless this special race of Kuma's is one that nobody knows about? Big Mom might've ony known about Lunarians because she knew about King, after all.
Also do we know if Big Mom has any Skypeians on her island? Or are they all being classed under the same banner as Lunarians (given there are technically three types of Angel people out there, but I assume they are all considered one race)?
-
Giants, Lunarians are definitely two of the three races she doesn’t have
I assume the last one is whatever Kuma is
-
@Greg do you think Ryokugyu has a black blade? From his introduction it looks like it a black blade but we never saw him use it or a comment made about his sword unlike the other black blades.
-
New Greg piece is up, he talks about the reaper shenanigans so it’s old news, but I do hope he can get back to post these regularly.

@Sun-D We don’t even know how he fights, we only saw him with the beaten up Beast Pirates and the fight between him and Momo wasn’t focused on him.
We also have someone with a sword and it’s Issho.
Maybe it’s part of his design and he doesn’t use it like the sword fighters we got on the crew.I can’t imagine him using the sword in a fight, cause he’s a logia but who knows, maybe someone has another idea.

so it’s old news
Harsh! lol
I think you missed the point of drawing attention to the older material. I threw in there that Zoro's throwaway line about coming back from Hell sounds funny but might actually be entirely true and that since Zoro sucks getting anywhere, it's unlikely he got out of there himself, meaning he may have had interactions with some characters of interest that helped guide him back.
The second half of the article was also cut in its entirety it dealt with Green Bull and the Kozuki family. The Green Bull stuff I can't talk about but the Kozuki stuff was just pointing out Sukiyaki's intro referenced the kokeshi thing. LOL that they removed that. Perplexing that they basically let me spoil a point a few installments back but are uptight about stuff already revealed in the manga.
-
@Greg
I didn't mean it like that .
I know you've talked about the difficulties with the editorial team before.
On the plus side, I think it's nice to bring it back up, as this could also be something Zoro learned while he was "dead" and maybe he wants to talk with Brook about that, while they are on ship watch duty.
Maybe it could be the thing he wants to know from Vegapunk, but this should be a stretch. I think its rather likely he wants to talk about how the smile side effect can be removed from the people of Wano or its Kuma, but who knows. -
Greg any ideas on what the last few Black Beard members will get for devil fruits?
-
OK, am I remembering things wrong or did the Pacifista's origins get retconned? Now, the newest chapter says they are clones of Kuma, but I remember it was originally said Pacifista are made from dead bodies.
I believe the latter was said around the time of Saobody.
-
@Johnny-B-Decent Could be a translation mistake or the dead bodies could be referring to them being cyborgs stripped of humanity.
Reminder that we often relied on sucky scanlations back then.
-
When is Sentomaru going to appear? And will he be a good guy or bad guy
It’s got to be this arc right? He’s Vegapunk’s body guard
Also do him and Kuma have a similar fighting stance or is it just me?
Sentomaru vs Rob Lucci a possibility?
-
Kishidoooooo!
Hope the latest SBS helps settle one of your raid suit vs body quandries. It's not a complete answer but definitely gives enough info to draw some fairly solid conclusions from!
-
@Greg Are Shanks crew and WB crew similar according to latest SBS?
With Elite officers of Shanks being captains like Division Commanders of Whitebeard? Also why is Franky bounty so low despite him having feats close to Jinbe level?

Is this about volume 103 where Oda mentions Sanji gaining body augmentations, or is it further developped in a volume 104 SBS I have yet to read ?
-
Reiju, Ichiji and Niji's powers are simple enough. Poison, Lasers and Electricity. It's Yonji and now Sanji's powers that don't make sense, especially now that we know Sanji doesn't actually turn invisible.
So, can Yonji elongate and extend his hand without the suit, then? Or is his non-Raid Suit power just super strength?
-
Yep, from 104!
@T
I'd need to have the book in front of me for specifics. However, I can say that the impression it left me with when I first read it is that (like other Emps) Shanks' biggest leaders have their own crews/groups like Grand Fleet. It just so happens that they hang out a lot and we don't see their ships/crews very often by virtue of Oda not pulling Shanks out very often. -
Black Beard also has a grand fleet right? Wasn’t Pink Beard part of it?
-
That last column about the underworld, souls and Zoro's seemingly throwaway line was amazing.
-
@Greg Thanks for the clarification. And about Franky bounty being too low, even after defeating a Senior Tobiroppo just like Jinbe...?
-
@Shiebs He definitely has some allies, yeah. It seemed Kaido and Big Mom were the only ones without one, as they incorporated any allies directly into their crews.
-
Dunno if I ever told anyone but I'll ploop it down here.
Belly X
Belli X
Berry O -
Beli>>>>>>>all three
I don't even think i've seen it anywhere. Just made it up most likely.
-
They actually use Berry in the German dub, which I always kind of liked.
-
@Greg do you think smoker will show up this arc? The last we saw of him was when G5 where heading to vegapunks lab to cure the punk hazard kids however he wasn't seen with tashigi at G-14.
-
@Greg What's this about Berries? Is Berry the proper word or what have you? Or is there some story significance here that's lost on me?
-
Now that I’ve seen Film Red, I’ll have to reread this thread from August onward get your thoughts on it @Greg. Is Sunny-kun a klabautermann?
-
That's an interesting question. It's easy to dsmiss as 'it's part of (spoiler)! Hya-herp!' but on a certain level, if we're to believe that inanimave objects can be inhabited by forms of life then it stands to reason, those lifeforms would also be pulled in as-is.
I think...they just wanted to have fun neutering the crew but it's entirely possible that Oda could weave that into the story.
-
Greg I just watched One Piece film red and I loved it! Idk if he cares but if so let Oda know I thought It was great
Also is there a place to listen to all the songs? I really enjoyed them
-
Pretty much YouTube. The artist's name is 'Ado' I guarantee 'Ado One Piece' will bring up dozens of helpful results ;)
-
Cool cool thanks, that’s where I’m headed
-
At this point I really think Oda will have to make Uta a cannon character. Her popularity here right now is insane for a movie character.

If what I found on what Oda said in the Film Commentary is true, he is very fond of her as well.
It's all about trying/figuring a way to introduce her, I would guess.
-
Actually, I don't think this is quite right.
The narrator said Kaido was defeated 'seven times as a pirate', but when he showed up on Fullalead at Age 15, he was asked to 'become a pirate'.
Kaido wasn't a pirate until joining Rocks at age 15. He was frequently intentionally captured and escaped before joining Rocks.
Kaido was defeated 7 times, but captured 18 times. It doesn't perfectly match up.
I think there's still more to his story.
-
So yeah, audio commentary reveals everything I've suggested.
-Uta confirmed in 1055 so her existence is now canon, as expected.
-Her status at the end is still unknown, as expected.
-The director didn't want to make it a multiverse film so they tried to make it non-multiverse (and failed, unless it happens after Egghead) but he overstepped his boundaries by saying it was canon and admits that, that the only person who can decide the movie's canon nature is Oda....as expected.Uta is canon and can easily show up if/when Oda wants and ignore the events of the film without disavowing them (ie. a text bubble-free panel of a reuniting OR just ignoring talk about the film's events). RED? Probably not canon but if it is, look for it to happen after Egghead.
-
Not surprised to see her become a canon character. As far as the movie goes one solution might be to take it as an alternative portrayal of events that took (or will take) place in the canon story. Luckily we have a precedent of this with the Chopper movie. The only difference being that we have no canon source material (yet).
-
I like that idea, but I'm not sure this story would fit in any future arc if Oda wants to finish One Piece in this decade. Egghead seems to be the arc where lots of stuff will get revealed and explained but I'm sure this is only going to lead to more questions and mysteries about the government, the ancient kingdom, the Revolutionary and the worst gen left overs.
I do wonder if we are going to see Urouge again, and if so where? Could he somehow be connected to Black Beard?
I would love the idea if Skypians, Shandians and Birkans are somehow related to Lunarians. They have wings so they should be related to them, though there's a color mismatch between them and they have no flames.
Come to think of it, does the world government know of those Sky people? Cause we've never seen one part of the marines or the CP agents. The only prominent one is Urouge and he's currently MIA. -
@Ivotas Uta the same as shiki she's cannon but the movie isn't
-
What franchise has actually had events in a film be 'canon' outside of manga adaptations? I'm genuinely asking because I haven't read many mangas, and I don't know of any films that are 'canon' outside of manga adaptions.
-
@danie My Hero Academia's and Inuyasha's movies come to mind.
-
@andre Events in an anime film are essential to understanding the events in the manga, or are at least mentioned in it? That's what I mean by 'canon'.
If events in an anime film are not essential to the events in the manga, or even mentioned in it, so what if they call it "canon".
-
Since we're getting closer and closer to the moon, a solid choice for Urouge to enter in a meaningful way would be for Urouge to enter when there's a level of altitude required in story progression.
Egghead is a strong candidate for moon-related hi-jinks and in that nature, anything related to going up...or down. Elbaf also works to that end given the size of the trees, but we'll have to see how Oda wants to proceed.

MHA seems to all fit pretty well. Naruto's movie where he hooks up with Hinata seems to fit. All the Takehashi films for Lum and Ranma and Inu Yasha and Maison Ikkoku fit just fine. Detective Conan and Cardcaptor Sakura. The Fullmetal ALchemist movie was terrible but it was post-series so it fit. Captain Harlock films work super well. I think all the Sailor Moon films work, though the one with the tree alien is really wierd overlap with the filler arc with identical tree aliens.
Those make the choice of not using anything from a current arc until the arc is done, or being set post-series so no random continuity exceptions come up.
I don't think any of the Yugioh filmms work because Pegasus is alive in those but I'm not sure if he actually died in the anime or not since we just got the censored dub, or if that was just in the manga.
Like film Red could almost fit... but then there's a couple characters in it that just shouldn't be around post-Wano but there was no way to know that until Oda finished the arc. And it can't be pre-Wano because the Wano crew isn't there and gear 5 is in it.
Strong World almost fits except it has stuff from right before the time skip but the crew is still together.
Ironically, the earlier OP movies all fit better because arcs were shorter then and they... could wait till an arc was done and just say "this event happened while travelling to the next thing" usually given a firm timeline spot in the end credits showing them meeting the next crew member.

Thanks for addressing this! I found it strange how Sunny-kun just appeared at the harbor in the dream world — now that I’ve seen the film twice, I feel a tad more strongly about it.
Also — is the Sing Sing Fruit also a Mythical Zoan fruit for Tot Musica?
Kizaru mentions “the world turning upside down” when the dream world begins to merge with the real one — and the Tot Musica score had a strange Jolly Roger atop it. I wonder how old the score was… and if it has any relation to “D.”
-
Don’t know if I asked this, but you think with Tot Musica and Shanks mentioning Sea Devil/Devils that Devils/Demons are really things in OP?
Or are they weird byproducts of the Void Century/what ever crated the Devil Fruits?
