If they can make it look like DBZ: Kakarot animations, I don't mind. Such an eye candy. The trailer does not look as polished, though.

Yep, all 153 episodes of the original Dragon Ball are both dub and sub on crunchyroll. I just finished watching the first couple episodes sub on crunchyroll.

The Bardock subplot is the worst element of this arc.
I like Granolah. I like the Heeters. I found Goku to be a lot of fun in this newest chapter.
But anything involving new Bardock has zero emotional impact for me.
Minus was so easy to ignore because it was a punch line with throwaway characters for an entirely different manga – Jaco the Galactic Patrolman.
But if you play it straight, it has zero emotional weight to it. It's pretty clear the story can now actually give an arc to Goku about not overdoing it with his martial arts because he remembered his parents being nice to him and I've been pretty indifferent about Minus, but now that the story tries so hard to paint it as powerful and impactful, I'm much more negative on it.
Goku's parents being nice and his mission not actually being to destroy Earth just isn't that interesting. The the old contrast is so much more narratively interesting even if I have issues with that Special, too.
I've been okay with it because there are so many possible details to it: Raditz was still pretty horrible, technically all Saiyan babies sent away were meant to conquer a the planet they were sent to and we still see Bardock be a warrior, but that's not the framing and focus.
The intention of the story is so crystal clear now and to me that's just boring.

Even through I have it on dvd, I been rewatching Dragon Ball on crunchyroll. This is pretty much, the first time that I'm watching the Japanese version of the original series (I have seen most of Z in Japanese (Up to the middle of the Cell arc.).). As much I like the dub for the original Dragon Ball, I'm enjoying the Japanese version as well. Currently, I just got to the beginning portion of the Red Ribbon Army saga (My favorite storyline of the series).

Probably the first DBS chapter I've enjoyed in a while. Touching on Gokus past, the reason why they fight and more importantly removing all of the complex mechanics of the story and just boiling it down to raw fighting. All in all a rather good chapter.

I've straight-up hated this arc for the last few chapters.
Since the entire subplot with Bardock became the focus, this arc has been an absolute bore for me.
Bardock's relevance and the attempt to make me care for him really hard doesn't work for me because the fundamental ideas behind his character are done in the most uninteresting way possible.
Goku's supposed character arc about accepting who he is was done much better 30 years ago with a single line.
And it's all pushing Bardock really hard and as I said trying to make me care really, really hard.
I defended the end of the ToP arc and Moro and the first leg of this arc, but this is just back to the manga just being awful.

That's great that there's finally a decent version of DB available legitimately.
It's quite frustrating that the best versions of DB/Z/GT are only available from fans, but this closes the gap quite a bit.
Wish Toei would use the broadcast audio.

The manga has more brutal fights than the anime, which is incredibly toothless to my taste. Some choreography is pretty decent, even though Toyotaro is not a particularly gifted artist (the way bodies move in the Super manga can even be off-putting at times). Gohan + Piccolo vs that android guy comes to mind as some pretty fun fight design. I thought the Zamasu fights are much better in the manga too.
It also brings Yamcha back to the action for a total of like 4 panels, where he kicks a couple of goons around, who then say "but wait, aren't you like super weak?", which prompts Yamcha to break the 4th wall and literally tell the audience "yeah, memes and haha and everything but you do actualy know that I'm kind of strong, right? yeah? good, peace out!", and leaves the manga again.
So, yeah, it has positives.
It's also monumentally repetitive, has some borderline insane plot choices (and not always in a good way), fights last for what feels like a thousand years each and, just like the anime, every and all power ups = new color palette. And there's some continuity rewriting here and there that has been pretty controversial but which, honestly, didn't bother me THAT much.
I'd say give it a shot? Just be warned that, yeah, it might test your patience with all the "seems the fight is done, oh, wait, he "wasn't fighting at full power", nevermind".

If you really, REALLY need a Dragonball fix.
But it's basically recreating old arcs and villains beat for beat and not really giving anything new in terms of character stuff or fights you haven't seen before or interesting and fresh new character designs.
Moro was kind of interesting for a hot minute but then he just turned into Piccollo Sr.
The current arc had potential until it turned into a Bardock wankfest. It seemed for a moment like it might swerve in interesting ways but its just super duper predictable now.

I've gone on the record as saying that Super has merit, and I do find that it tries some new things - at the very least it's moved away from fights being endless beam/powerlevel escalations and is deploying more varied moveset and strategies, which is very refreshing. If it has some downsides it's that its very much the Goku/Vegeta show, much more than ever before, and that it often walks back some of the more interesting ideas that its pursuing. Like how the latest arc raises questions about the accountability of Sayans for their past genocidin' actions, but then seemingly abandons it and goes "nah, don't feel bad or apologize for your genocidin' heritage"

The Dragon Ball Super cartoon series has an atrocious production schedule, difficult to animate designs and a small number of animators and directors, so it essentially never had time to produce particularly good fights. My favorite battle strategy didn't even require good animation, though, so that was a relief. In Episode #123 there's a cool scene where Gokuu nearly knocking Jiren out of the ring that is super reminiscent of what writer Tomioka Atsuhiro would do on the episodes of Pokemon that he worked for. Definitely makes me hope that Tomioka is involved in writing for the next Dragon Ball animated series.

I saw Dragon Ball Super Super Hero the other day and I really enjoyed it. I appreciate that Picollo was the main character and that most of the fights were actual martial arts battles as opposed to throwing energy blasts back forth (although that does still happen in some fights).

Gohan was included in the movie at the behest of Shueisha's Iyoku Akio, the guy in charge of the Dragon Ball Room (the group within Shueisha that oversees the franchise). Toriyama originally just wanted to focus on Piccolo. You can really tell in the film.

If the rumoured new series of Super happens I hope they don't waste a bunch of episodes serialising Broly and Super Hero. But I suspect they will.

Supposedly they won't. I heard from some people in Japan that the plan is to start with Moro and cover Moro, Granolah and whatever the next arc is. Of course that's all just rumours atm
My quesiton though, is where does Super Hero take place in the timeline? From the movie itself, it sounds like it takes place before the Granolah arc at least. But, did Goten and Trunks appear in the Moro arc? I don't remember but if they did in the anime they would need their new appearances from the movie and not the old one.

I do hope that they remake these two movies as story arcs. I'd love to see the full version of Broli animated and also see Super Hero done by hand.

I have some nitpicky complaints (ugly transformations, not a single Great Saiyaman mention?) but overall Super Hero was a vast improvement over Broly.

He's just not interested in him, of course that also has to do with his own rigid characterization of his characters. Making Gohan prioritize his work in the film over Pan certainly feels like Toriyama trying to make Gohan less 'good' in a really weird and cheap way, though.

Goku stayed on another planet rather then see his kid so I don't think Toriyama thinks that deeply about parenting.

i went into the movie with extremely low expectations with the cgi and came out impressed. although the animation will never be like the original 13 movies or like broly super, it held up to its own standard and i enjoyed the fight scenes...even if it felt like cell games/imperfect cell games on steroids.

I just find this absurd, sudden power escalation so weird. The whole "I trained 4 months so now I'm stronger than Super Saiyan Blue" already rubbed me the wrong way, but this is on a whole new level. With Goku and Vegeta's current forms it felt like we were at least "close" to the final power levels, like, no one should get MUCH stronger than they are already, but Freezer oneshoting the strongest forms Vegeta and Goku can muster at the same time puts him on a level that's...beyond gods of destruction? No, wait, wasn't that Jiren's deal already, being stronger than the gods of destruction? So this new Freezer is...angel level? Also, does that mean Freezer is the final enemy of Super? Kinda weird if he is.
So, what's next for Goku and Vegeta? Cause they won't end the manga being weaker than Freezer. Vegeta JUST unleashed his new Ultra Ego form or wathever, is that obsolete already? Time for a new form? What about Goku? Back to white hair Ultra Instinct? And I guess wathever Gohan and Piccolo mustered in the Super Hero movie that apparently put them back in the game is now completely obsolete too...if the movie even matters, obviously.
