The last outage before this one lasted I think a month was which the longest I think since this started happening somewhat regularly.
Downtime!

-
This is probably already known, but in case it's not since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, the search feature doesn't work. I think this is linked to the recent downtime since if I remember right there were a couple other times in the past where searching was broke after the site came back online.

Thanks, we're aware of it and fixing it is a high priority.
For some reason when the server gets rebooted sometimes it breaks the search function.
-
Search is fixed. I've been unavailable for the past two weeks dealing with some personal stuff, so after getting the server back online I hadn't been able to check in, really. Like Robo said, after service and server restarts the search service doesn't always come back up.
The official word will have to come from bren, but I understand we've been getting rather inundated with nonsensical bot-generated DMCA requests; too many to manually review in the short windows provided to take the content down. In many cases the claims are extremely vague and there isn't even any content to take down. Our host does not vet these requests whatsoever for legitimacy. We are still discussing the best way to move forward.
Yeah, over the past year or so we've had a handful of outages, but of them only two have I think have been due to technical issues. Disk space once, and a service hang once. The rest were all DMCA requests. I've gone back and forth with Comeso, the primary complainant, for a while now and it seems we are the villains from their perspective because, "unlike other forums", we have links to manga sites in our manga/anime threads. These are pretty flimsy DMCA claims, but for whatever reason we are on the radar and keep getting takedown requests. We're only given ~48 hours to address them and respond back before we are taken offline, at which point it's much more difficult to resolve the issue.
-
So they will continue to bully us until we stop posting links?
-
What's happened this time? I thought it won't be back anymore. At this rate it may come true some day…

Large number of DMCAs apparently.

Large number of DMCAs apparently.
I swear it feels like someone is out to get AP with all these false claims of DMCAs x.x
-
How come more active places like Worstgen doesn't face this issue ?! I am pretty sure all sorts of links are shared there.

Not hosted in US?

I know I barely post on here anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't need you, Arlong Park! I don't want to read about new chapters on reddit. :cwy:
Glad we're back.
-
The email box which receives the dmca warnings shall be ccessible to other admins than brennen so that they can be taken care of when he is not available. For me, it is the only solution since we will continue to have this shutdown times
Also it seems the thread of 4 knights of the apocalypse was completely removed in "other manga". Did we have that much problematic links in this thread ?
-
So glad to have the forums back! This downtime really demonstrated to me how pretty much every other place to discuss OP is pure ass.
-
Finally… Good to have you back
-
damn, this time i thought this would be it. nice to have you back, apforums.
-
I'm thankful the forum is back up. I was wondering what happened to it, but it turns out it was just facing the same problem The Millennium Forums was facing when it went defunct.
-
Wow it's suddenly back. I was worried, but I'm glad to see it.
-
Please change apforums.net to a server that won't have these issues. This site feels like it gets more "missing weeks" than One Piece and it's been going on just as long. I understand it takes work to change servers, and that when it's back up and running it's easier to just breathe a sigh of relief and forget about it. But it will keep happening, look at the past to see the future and what needs to be done.

I don't know how running a website works, and no doubt it takes a considerable deal of extra stress and effort to keep a site like this running with DMCA coming down on it. At the end of the day, I'm just grateful the forum is back, but I ultimately have to agree with the sentiment that some sort of change would probably be beneficial here. Hell, if a server change is in order, I'll throw a few bucks in AP's direction. I've used this site for a decade at this point and I'd be happy to give back if it would help
-
I want to ask, could making the site be private to members only fix this DMCA issue? It would at least solve the bot issue, if nothing else.
-

Yeah, I'm the same way. I'm willing to donate money to help the forums with any important changes like switching to a different server or host.
-
I'm glad the forum is back. There just isn't a better place for One Piece.
-
The server is not an issue. Tue DMCA claim have to be treated manually when asked in a short delay
The server goes down because the admins have personal lives -
YES!!! FINALLY.
I missed you Arlong Park -
I'm so glad it's back! I was worried it'd be gone forever this time, lol.
-
OMG I MISSED THIS PLACE
-
Yay, welcome back!
-
I never knew how much I'd miss you all! Glad the forum is back! :)
-
I'm happy the site is finally back. Each time AP goes down, I'm always afraid it's down for good.
-
I don’t envy whoever has to sort out the bullshit that keeps taking the site offline.
I know these 3 months had to be hell on their emotional health.
-
But will there be some changes to this forum or will everything stay like now?
Sending from shitty mobile site not using Tapatalk
-
thank godness, i also thought forums won't be back again.
pewh! glad you guys could work it out. -
welcome back happy for all
-
Sorry about the extended downtime guys. The DMCA claims hit at just the right time pre-holidays where we didn't have time to address it before the host shut us down. And combing through hundreds of random non-specific fraudulent claims on a forum that isn't online is rather painstaking, in short. We are working to establish some kind of system where multiple parties can receive these types of fraudulent notices so that we have a better chance of nipping it in the bud and avoid downtime.
The bigger-picture discussions, which are not new, involve moving not only to a new host but to some form of modern forum software, both more secure and more usable. But, as previously stated, that is not a small project and depends on multiple parties having time in their busy real-life schedules.
-
Setup a go fund me, the OP community will come through! This site is critical and important.
-
I second, as previously mentioned. I'd happily give back if it meant more stability for the forum and less stress on admins. <3
-
Hey look, it's like a limb has regrown on my body! :D
-
Yay, I missed seeing this forum.
A forum for a game I play/moderate has had issues with Phpbb and vBulletin in the past to the point the admins decided to host their own forum(s). Dunno if vBulletin is the issue here, though it's a shame vBulletin is like this.
-
Just a quick word of appreciation for all the admins to deal with all that fuss so that we have a place to destress :)
Thanks y'all! If you come to Tokyo, ramen on me. (DM me first). -
This is the place to be
-
I knew this place wouldn't stay dead, it is a One Piece forum after all.
But seriously, thank you to all the mods for all that you do to keep AP running.
-
So glad to see the forums are back. Thanks to everyone involved in sorting that stuff out.
If there's anything I can do to help the forums, I would gladly do so. -
Happy to see this place back. And I don't know what you did, but the site is finally loading fast for like the first time in many years.
-
Yay! AP is back!
-
It's good to have AP and everyone on board back for sure! I hope everyone is returning safe and sound! :)
-
Honestly had me worried, I thought the site went kaput. But glad I keep checking to make sure.
-
While the discord chat keeps me a float it wasn't jumping like the forums Sonim glad it's back hopefully no more troubles with the DMCA
-
How is this still happening and for such long periods of time? Felt like a month this time around. Not that this forum is all-that active even when it's accessible, but it's still annoying that something as minor as DMCA claims can totally screw up the site for weeks whereas other sites usually resolve these problems in a matter of hours.
-
Maintaining this forum is no one's job. From what I understand, all the admins do it on their freetime. Also visiting here doesn't cost you anything.
When shit goes down, just be glad when they un-shit it and show some gratitude my dude.
-
I almost never post, but just wanted to throw out there that I missed this place as well!
