Pretty interesting for a movie villain. Female, Sky Island, looks like an announcer/headset she is wearing. Also getting to see Shanks crew. It will be interesting how they try and include them and the straw hats without having Luffy & Shanks meet (or Usopp and Yasopp)
New One Piece Movie: RED (6th August 2022) !!

-
Directed by Goro Taniguchi (aka Code Geass guy)?! What the fuck?!
! He directed the Ganzak OVA way back when but that's still a massively out-of-left-field choice
-
Poster !!

We also see Shanks in the teaser. Although there wasn't much doubt to being with.
-
Official english poster!!

Man the theories are going wild with this one and I'm pretty sure a lot of people are going to be disappointed. I highly doubt this film will be canon and there's no way Luffy and Shanks will reunite, that is something which simply cannot happen in a movie of all things.
Still a lot to speculate about though. This new female character, my train of thought is leaning toward: either Shanks inspired her in the same way he did to Luffy…or she has some sort of dirt on him and is hellbent on revenge and Luffy has to stop her (if that is the case, said dirt will likely wind up being meaningless given movies have no effect on the plot)
-
So by the english poster text which seems to refer to the woman, she has red hair. Which kinda point to be genetic tied to Shanks. I mean: underlining she has red hair in a movie titled Red with Shanks seems to be too much of a coincidence. Still, she has wings (skypieans?).
- if she's his mother or sister, he'll be revealed to be a skypieans too
- if she's his daughter, he'll be revealed to have been in a relationship with a skypieans
Neither of them seems to be a real option to me, so… Sister-in-law? Shanks actually killed his own evil father in youth and she's seeking revenge?
-
Red hair is too specifically Shanks-related to not be intentional given that the movie's obvious Shanks influence, so I'd be surprised if she wasn't related to him somehow, and a newly introduced daughter inheriting red hair from her long established father makes a bit more thematic sense to me than them being half(?)-siblings or mother and son or some other relation.
We know Shanks made it to Skypeia once with Roger when he was in his mid-to-late teens, and there's no reason he couldn't have gone back during his later career, so I could totally see him having a daughter (knowingly or otherwise) by way of one of the locals.
Obviously WAY early and very little to go one, but as wild speculation goes, I think it's a relatively reasonable initial guess…
-
We're already getting crucial info from Vivre Cards.
Meh, the info is super minor in the grand scheme of things. But seeing Shanks fully powered fighting style in a movie before the manga seems like a bridge too far. You also need to manage a movie where Luffy/Shanks don't actually meet in the movie because you know, that reunion has to be saved for the manga first
-
Film: Red is reportedly going to have a woman as the main villain, which I think is welcome after all the weirdo old dudes that have been the antagonists in the previous movies. The closest there was to a main female villain was probably Honey Queen, but not much more.
-
I doubt Shanks is going to have a kid that isn't Makino's.

Reported where?

Is Tesoro considered an old dude?

Here, though admittedly I suppose it is a bit left up to interpretation:
-
I can't really see an action movie depicting a strong good-aligned man exchanging fist with a beautiful woman*. It's the kind of thing a movie refuse to put on screen. If she's going to be the main villain, I am pretty sure she'll be some sort of of non-fighter menace (=ability which doesn't involve physical exchange of violence) and due to Luffy's fighting style, I suppose we are going to get a second-in-command male antagonist who he'll have to defeat in a Lucci/Katakuri-like situation.
*As Alvida first form, two Gorgon sisters and Big Mom have indeed be an option.
-
Could we be at the point that there's only so much time to put everything into the manga that crucial info about a character could be in movies as well and not just the manga, or is it really a case that crucial info will always be in the manga?
I don't think its a bad idea. One Piece is popular enough that fans will want to see a new film for the series. Given its Japanese release date that's a suitable time bring it out as we can assume Wano will have concluded by then and anything revealed in the manga will be unveiled before or at the same time the film comes out.
It'll be good to see more of Shanks rather than he continues to make the occasional appearance on some random island or the end of a major arc, proclaiming that Luffy is becoming a pirate worthy of meeting him again (its about time that Shanks becomes more involved in the main story than these brief check-ins).

In speaking of which, it made me think back to past villains. Some people complain about female characters looking exactly the same as Nami, and while it doesn't bother/confuse me, I have noticed that the faces of slim young lady characters tend to have noticeable difference if the female character is a villain, like being designed with more ovular eyes for example.
-
That message doesn't seem to convey whether said character will actually be the villain though, only that there might be a female character taking the central role instead of the legendary old grampas we've gotten for the last few films.
I agree with Oda on that though, there has been way too many legendary old grampas.

That's true. Oda tends to put more effort on characterize villain ladies than ally ones. I do agree that the Nami-face-syndrome isn't such a burden to me, but when he draws antagonistic feature he is just… something else. Half the characters you posted in there are still unique as much as Baccarat from Gold. Fortunately this changed with Wano: Hiyori and Kiku now just stand over other good-aligned women.

More central than with Maya in The Cursed Holy Sword I presume?

We also have the more recent Carina in Gold, which is actually the Straw Hat Extra Member of the film.

Given the context in which he mention the legendary old grandpas, they were always the main antagonists. For the Film series, the teasers always featured some aspect or characteristic of the antagonist.

Agree on that, just thought it was important to clear up that nowhere has there been confirmed this character is a villain.
I also feel there's a distinction between someone being a villain and possibly antagonistic. Not that they can't be a villain, wouldn't surprise me, but there's a difference. It's entirely possible this character is evil-ish but won't be the final villain.

Not saying it can't happen, but most One Piece movies are straight-forward with who the baddies are. Oda might be more inclined to switch it up this time since he wants to focus on a woman instead of an old dude.
-
It'd be nice if there wasn't so OP villain for the StrawHats to face. Maybe it could be a different kinda adventure for once
-
I suppose adding to the idea that the female character on the poster is the main villain is how previous promotional posters were presented, because they show Z, Tesoro, and Bullet as particularly big.
-
I think she's going to be the main villain but like many said, she'll have a band of male lackeys who the straw hats will fight and whatever beef she has, presumably with Shanks, will get resolved by Shanks.
-
Actually, seeing as how Strong World came out not too long after Brook joined, maybe Film Red will possibly give the indication of the crew structure by the time trailers release.

How so? Jinbe being there is a given because he’ll have been officially in the crew for quite some time in both the anime and manga but other than that there’s no way we’d see anyone else regardless of what Oda may or may not be planning.
-
The earliest Strong World trailers showed Brook with the crew within like a week of his 'official' joining in the manga. It's not that big of a leap to think that this movie might be being made with whoever joins at the end of Wano in mind.

How on earth would you ever make an Anime Shounen movie with no villain?
I am genuinely curious. Has there ever been an example of this?

Yeah, like how Jinbe may or may not possibly be a Straw Hat in the movie depending on when they take his recruitment into account too.

Maybe a different kinda villain, that isn't some god tier level legendary pirate or marine.

Jinbei is defo going to be a Straw Hat in the movie. He's officially joined in both the manga and anime so there really is no ifs or buts about that. Whether anyone else is in the crew is going to entirely depend on if Wano is over or not by the time the trailers for the movie come out and given that I doubt Wano will end any time before next Summer, I think any future Straw Hat is defo missing out this time.

Prob strikes more evident when looking at Vivi's face before and after she befriended Luffy.
-
Yep luffy cant hit a woman, so I'm guessing she can control people with her singing and has little physicsl abilities. Luffy will have to defeat a strong controlled dude, I'm guessing, not fight her physically. Which is a shame really.

Luffy has no qualms hitting women. He fought Ulti just recently.
Plus, Oda is not really writing. The anime sometimes has male characters hitting female ones in filler scenes. First thing that comes to mind is Sulong Pekoms punching around the girl Decuplets in in Whole Cake.
-
Sure luffy doesn't, but the laws of the OP universe do. He didn't really hit ulti afaik, just threw her to the floor by her hons. We've never seen luffy punch a woman who isn't fat I think.
That's good to know though, I'd rewlly like to see a cool tough female opponent who throws down with the best of them, but it's looking like this one is a support type character who use magical singing.
-
He punched Vivi in the face and had no problems fighting with Monet.
However, I wouldn't be surprised if she has some kind of mythical zoan devil fruit of some kind.
-
Anyone who thinks we'll ever see Luffy beating a pretty girl to a pulp is delusional, lol.
-
Maybe she can turn into some kind of "Big Mom" monster
-

The point is not the woman hit, as it clearly happened before (and not only with Luffy), but the defeat. Defeating a character for Luffy usually means beating the dream out of their ass, which isn't clearly OP's standards. It's not a slap or a punch, but a combo of attacks which leads to a final blood-spitting blow.

Well I suppose it doesn't help that there haven't been that many slim young lady characters that have been shown to be capable enough of keeping up with Luffy in the story, with even examples like Ulti and Yamato being few and far between. Another possible sign of that is that there haven't been that many women with known considerably high bounties either, or women with known bounties in general for that matter.
-
So a different kind of villain, an attractive young woman who's defeated some way other than being punched… maybe one whose conflict with the MC comes about because of how she associates him with his mentor figure? Hmmm......

And of course Hancock could have become the first main slim young lady villain of an arc that Luffy would have defeated had he not befriended her. It would probably be a woman more forcefully threatening compared to someone like her, Yamato, or Ulti for there to be less qualms over Luffy beating up such a character.
-
So the movie is non-canon, but will also heavily involve canon stuff right?
-
I assume it'll have a couple of reveals like laugh tale in Stampede.
-
I imagine that Film RED will fall into that sort of quasi-canon status that every movie since Strong World has more or less fallen into.
I'm not sure even the manga will have Wano fully wrapped up by the time the movie comes out, much less the anime, so short of it being developed with the post-Wano status quo in mind from the start (which may well include a new Strawhat, if my read on Yamato's prospects is correct), it will probably be impossible to fit into the series timeline.
That said, considering Oda's purported involvement, I'd also imagine it will probably be as close to canon as it can be.
