I believe that they’ve called devil fruits ‘cursed fruits’ a few times in the show. Correct me if I’m wrong however. I mean the devil fruits are cursed by the sea, so i don’t think it’s a big deal.

I mean, you guys are taking it as if that’s the new name. I’d just say it’s an adjective a person uses to express their hatred of the fruit. Like, the damned fruit. The cursed fruit. I don’t see it as a conflict at all. People can call the devil fruits by whatever adjective they like. I think the official name of the fruits is still “devil fruit” in the show.

Doubt we'll get another set for two months. September 7th is so far away. X_X Even the Vinland Saga dub will be out by then.

He doesn’t say it like it’s some kindve negative adjective. He says it rather confidently. I understand what you guys are trying to say but from the way it’s delivered I don’t think that’s the intent.

In one of the next episode previews, there’s a super loud static noise that lasts a second or two. I mean as in, it literally over powers all the other sounds. I was wearing headphones, it seriously scared me and hurt my ears. At first I thought I maybe jerked on my headphones so the audio got distorted, but no I watched it again and the same exact noise occurred. What the hell? How do you mess up that badly. It’s beyond amateur.

I'd report this one. Send them an email on their contact page. Honestly, I just don’t think they’ve had a quality checking process since the speed up and COVID began.

July 27th. Not far.

Anthony directs this entire set, with Tyson assisting from the 3rd or 4th episode onward I believe. Yknow I kinda expected the episode count for each director to be comparable, but Dressrosa really feels like the Anthony show lol. He's a good director, but it makes me wonder even more about Kyle. They acted like he's directing it full time yet we've only seen a handful of episodes from him. Very odd.
-
When did "they act" like that? They said they had three directors working on the show a year ago. Things obviously change within a year, and it was our mistake assuming that three directors were working on it "fulltime."
Sounds like Mike got snatched up to work on another show, eh? Anyone know which one? That explains why they're falling behind and we had a month break from their faster schedule. Only one guy and an assistant directing now. Hopefully Mike gets back on it soon so they can keep up the faster pace.
Wishful thinking: Maybe Mike jumped ahead to go handle Zou episodes while Anthony finishes DR. That would make some sense: Zou involves a lot of casting–and some major character casting, too--and he's the most senior/experienced at finding voices and knowing who has already appeared in OP. I guess we'll see if Mike is credited on a ton of episodes in the S11v9-s12v2 range.
-
Yes, things change. I guess my point was in the time they were talking about their being 3 directors, say the period between the punk hazard behind the scenes video and funimationcon 2020 panel, Kyle would've still logistically directed more than he has. I think its in the single digits.
-
Eh. They said they had three directors working on it, and Kyle did help out for a bit before going to do other things. They told the truth. It’s our fault for assuming they’d have three directors working on it full time for 1+ year.
In any case, I don’t really care who works on it. All the directors have been equally competent (with a few glaring amateurish mistakes no doubt due to rushing the schedule and working from home pains). It’s hard to notice a big difference between the directors these days. Joel was often noticeable, but these guys seem to be better (primarily at coaxing good performances) outside of a few mistakes here and there (often mistakes that the script or engineers should’ve also caught).
-
I don't think it's really that much of a leap in logic to assume information they give us is going to be accurate for the forseeable future at the very least. They pretty point blank said "we have three directors". Like yes you are correct by technicality but if you're trying to convey information to your audience, you're gonna wanna clear up incorrect assumptions if they could easily be made. Like by that logic they could've stopped releasing dressrosa after the first voyage cuz hey! they did start it in 2020. No lies were told.

Bro a set just came out, relax and wait for the end of the month lol

Also yeah Blake I think you're taking it a little too seriously, it's clearly an adjective used to describe the Devil Fruits like Zephray said, 4Kids didn't plainly say Cursed Fruit either rather Curs-ed Fruit, so I think it's just an interesting choice of wording more than anything lol

You must feel really lean after that good stretch. Mate, they did have three directors working on it. Then for whatever reason it dropped to two, then to one. It happens. They probably didn't know Kyle would have to drop off so soon, or that they'd eventually bring in an assistant. They can't plan a year in advance, man. That promise and information is just outdated; it was true at the time.

I mean, there's only one director and an assistant on the show now and we know from actor postings that they're not far ahead. It seems pretty obvious to me that it'll take two months. Would love to be wrong.
I just think ahead because I ration, and I don't know how to ration this set–three episodes a week if it comes out in a month, less if not.
-

I mean, yeah you guys are probably right, but I see no way that throughout the entire process nobody picked up on what it sounds like honestly. Like I could easily see Clint including it as a fun double Entendre. It just kinda made me do a double take.
-
To Blake's point, the clip does sound like he's calling the fruit by its name. He says "the cursed fruit," not "a cursed fruit." It could be taken as an adjective, still, but it would be nice if they avoided this particular adjective in the future.

Nah he said "a cursed fruit" after listening to it a few times
-
Does it really matter? Like I think either would work if he said it before devil fruit either. That being said it's entirely because of its history. Like if he used any other general adjective nobody would bat an eye.
-
Fair, yeah. That's what I was saying about them maybe avoiding this word in the future.
Honestly, stuff like this doesn't matter too much to me. I'm more annoyed by blatant audio and engineering mistakes (no voice change for Monster Chopper; bad mic for Kinnemon lines; loud audio glitch in preview; etc.). As long as they continue to use devil fruit, I'm fine.
-
I honestly thought it was a take from the Cartoon Network dub they used jn the flashback and they used the 4kids term Cursed Fruit. But its no biggie to me
-
Fun fact: we now have the exact same episode gap we did when season 9 voyage 5 released, 262 episodes. Obviously if the dub kept going at its standard pace we’d be closer, but in a sense we made up for lost time. That’s kinda neat. It also means that as long as voyage 8 doesn’t take like FOREVER to come out we’ll be the closest to the original we ever have been.
-
Fun fact for me is that Zou will literally be all new to me since i skipped it back in the sub because i thought it was filler, so hopefully my patience pays off and it gets released this year
-
I… that’s something. If it was by accident I guess I can’t blame you? but… how were you not instantly confused and went back???
-

Yeah i know bits and pieces about it due to callbacks with Pedro and Carrot but i somehow manage to hold out ALL OF THESE YEARS lol
-
Yes, pretty much.
-
I got Season 11, Voyage 3 bluray today. I can confirm that Season 11, Voyage 3 got the correct version of the 2nd Wake Up opening on the blu ray release (The Sabo's hat covering his face) on the episodes. Since the digital release had Wake Up version 3 (Sabo's face being not cover).
-
I’m kind of curious if they’ve fixed any errors for the bluray. Can’t remember which episode Doffy called Fujitora a vice-admiral, but I told Clint about it and it sounded like he’d ask for it to be fixed. Curious if that ever happened.
Unsurprisingly, the Funi store hasn’t even shipped my preordered copy yet.
-
@Blake:
Oh and also it’s just like one line but Colleen also sounds weird in the flashback. She’s also doing the too high thing she sounds like she’s trying to do 7 year old luffy.
Yeah this is definitely Colleen's impersonation of her own early rougher and higher-pitched Luffy voice from almost 15 years ago. It's interesting to hear in a way since it kinda shows how foreign that particular take on him is to her now all these years later.
-
The thing is he in no way sounds like that most of the time they do flashbacks. She sounded the same she does now in episode of east blue in such. I don’t find the evolution of luffys voice to be distracting, but I certainly do find her going out of her way to over compensate.
-
Yeah definitely an inconsistency, had the director of that episode done any early flashback stuff before? If not, that could've been their suggestion perhaps and she just went with it for that one line and they were happy.
-
I don’t recall Anthony doing any but he did fine elsewhere in the flashbacks this set so it’s just kinda weird.
-
Speaking of Clint, sometimes the script writers lean into really kiddish translations that forget the age of their audience. In episode 700, pirates literally say, “Nahnahnahnabooboo, stick your head in doodoo.” Surely that isn’t so accurate a translation it needed to be written that way. Every so often the dub makes me cringe really hard with its translation, and it does no favors to us arguing (with sub-only idiots) that the dub is good and well-written.
-
Okay so I was curious about that myself and in the original the 2 pirates say "no-way-poo" and "puppuku-poo" which… I dont know what means. Sounds kinda like a feces pun so it may very much be accurate. Either way I just... can't bring myself to care. Like the script is so strong as a whole that I can't imagine what random unnamed characters lines are to matter to literally anyone. I also think you're forgetting one piece at the end of the day is made for children, and can often times have childish humour. The last arc literally had a character talk with their farts. Really isn't even all that off brand.
-
Is it made for children? I’m not sure I agree. Even teenagers would cringe at that line.
-
“Shonen” as a genre is literally specifically for young boys. This is the entire point of the shonen jump magazine. One Piece and many other titles are so well written they can be enjoyed by a much much larger audience, but that is in fact the target demographic. As I said, it appears the original line was similar anyways, so I’m not sure what you’re complaining about.
-
I just finished Season 11, Voyage 3. The Dressrosa dub continues to be great. I will say the dub did Senor Pink perfectly in my opinion. Also the dub did my favorite moment of Dressrosa justice with the Doflamango vs. Sanji fight. Now that I heard more Johnny's version of Sabo, he's fits the character more then Vic ever did.
It's good timing that I'm switching to the collection starting with Collection 28. Since this around the period the anime starts to slow down a bit with the Birdcage stuff.
-
OP has grown with its audience. It isn’t for “young boys” anymore. The rest of the writing and subject matter doesn’t match the tone of “stick your head in doodoo.” This shouldn’t be something I need to argue over.
-
This shouldn’t be something I need to argue over either. To make it clearer shonen simply isn’t a genre targeted towards young boys, it’s what the term means. Seriously, look it up. Oda even actively dislikes the fact his fan base is actually mostly women (not saying that’s a good thing). It’s target audience is not up for debate. It’s simply a fact. Now that being said, yes of course Oda is also writing for the people who have been following it since the beginning. The target audience is not the only potential audience. There’s a reason this entire forum exists after all. To me the line itself very clearly isn’t supposed to be funny on its own, it’s the fact it’s pirates speaking like toddlers which once again, was present in the original. By “original”, I mean the anime, I doubt the scene is in the manga at all. So if you’re gonna blame anyone cuz how much this line bothers you it’s probably the anime staff.
-

Neat. Does it also contain a creditless version of this rendition?
-
Lord…I'm catching up on the dub eps. In 666, Doflamingo calls Kin'emon "Fire Fox" instead of "Fox Fire".
-
Haven’t you heard? He’s their new mascot. Kin can help you with all your internet browsing needs.
-
Neat. Does it also contain a creditless version of this rendition?
Yep, I can confirmed Season 11 Voyage 3 does have Wake Up Version 2 (Sabo's face being cover by his hat) creditless. It was the first thing I check before I begin watching the set.
-
Russian's voice is so cute!
-
It is possible she’s referring to something else (though I wouldn’t know what), and this doesn’t exactly make much sense either, but the only thing I can think of is the character Jack, yknow from one piece. Maybe she voices someone in zou?
-
She's made several posts that have brought up "Jack" that have absolutely nothing to do with One Piece, so clearly this is someone she knows personally
-
Maybe the real Jack was the friends we made along the way.
-
You have to remember Jamie is also a cast member of the Borderlands franchise. Which one of the main villain is Handsome Jack.
-
Well that would make even less sense lol. Probably just a real person.
